But serial monogamy is the accepted norm. "Cheating" has replaced "adultery", and is no longer a crime in most (if any) jurisdictions. Divorce is accepted, as is remarriage, with no limit to the number of times it can be done. All he really did was fail to file some paperwork to divorce each woman before he married the next. Oh, and tell each woman about his whole past, which is also not technically a crime. I think he's terrible, but not criminal, except for the pigs.

Viewers should also keep in mind he does this through the 70s, 80s and in a way its the perfect time for this as most adults cam up when it was all paper documents but by the 1980s everyone in North America is trying to move to computer databases. It would not be unusual paperwork was lost for an adult his age but wasn't found on digital systems and there was still no automatic cross-checking of databases and even US/Canada crosschecking was decades away so that much more. From around 2000 onward he probably could not pull that off. Even a little courthouse in OKC can click some buttons from a desk and the computers do the work and the inconsistency, errors, 'two names' and ID etc would fire up.

After my grandpa died in the 1990s, we found out that he'd had a whole other family (a wife and 3 or 4 kids) prior to when he "married" my grandma, and that he simply walked away from them sometime in the 1920's (my dad was the eldest of his new family and he was born in 1930). My grandma had already passed away so it was hard to find all of the answers although they did find his original family and where he grew up, etc. He and my grandmas didn't actually get legally married until the 70s sometime although they had a 50th anniversary party. No name changing though. I guess it was much easier to disappear in the 1920s, if you wanted to. It was very strange!

I always wonder where Dr. Grande looks while saying "what could be happening in a situation..." His stare can be disturbing and frightening. If you need help Dr. Grande blink twice, or morse code tapping your fingers. The mic should pic it up.
