cheating in a fighting game is just baffling. all that will happen is you getting a higher rank, making the game harder for you, making you need to cheat even more to stay in the same place.

They should put pluggers above a certain disconnect percent into their own playlist so they can suffer together.

I think it's completely ridiculous that you don't get a win when somebody disconnects. That's literally how every online game works. It's the perfect solution. Because you don't get your time wasted and the cheater gets punished. If it's an honest mistake like internet issue then surely those points you lost on a disconnect here and there won't matter in the long run. And the thing about boosting, I don' think it makes a difference. If you can do it either way by just afk pounding on someone.

i love that you raise awareness on this topic! I noticed it right away when i started to play tekken 7. I started a bit before Lidia came out in Tekken 7 and i came fresh from the farmers market with a basket full of no experience. I noticed pretty fast that i was getting thrown around like a dry leaf in an autumn storm, at first i just thought that it was a base level and matter of entry skill to be able to break all throws or parry 99% of all lows. After playing for around 100 hours, matching up against oponents that play like beginners and pros(?) alike. I seemed to get matched more and more with people who i questioned the rank of and that seemed wierd to me. that's when i realized i was going up against a few people that seemed too strong for the rank, several times and their stats never changed. It was like they were stuck in a glitched way on the same prowess and couldn't get higher or lower. i could go on for a while, writing about my experience in this field but i don't feel like doing that for now so i'mma head out. Also, didn't need to do me dirty like that, i play dj now because jin became what he became lol

1:38 were you sure it's not Steam cloud backing up your save file for you? Cause in Tekken 7, I used to play in a pc gaming cafe during my breaks in school and steam would download my save and synced everything including rank and even my button mapping.

There is a report option for intentional disconnect. I would recommend using that on pluggers for that would gather data on them doing it faster if people use the report system

"savescumming" as a term has been around a long time and has nothing to do with tekken

MK11 and MK1 at launch had alot of dudes plugging. Lots of dudes would pull the plug in MK ranked. I left MK for Tekken 8. I don't regret leaving MK for Tekken 8. Tekken 8 community we on top.📈

The worst to me are the lag spikers. Game running perfect until the end of a 2 2 and then suddenly the game slows to a crawl.

1:50 I'm curious, are you sure Steam Cloud didn't save the files in this case? You can alter those if that's the case by disabling Steam Cloud in Steam settings then altering the files associated with your rank.

I saw someone with a 15 streak yesterday and was completely sure they were going to plug so just went ham and 3-0ed them. And then they rematched and beat my ass next two games lmao. I've become so used to it by this point, I really hope they do something about plugging. Hopefully after they fix all the crashing :)

Another weird thing to note is that plugging seems to register as a "loss" if you have a win streak. I was watching a TMM stream the other day where he had a 20-something win streak and got plugged on. After the plug he lost the win streak, like he'd lost or disconnected himself. Now I'm not sure if this was just a one time bug or something. He didn't check to see if the match registered as a loss, but still worth noting how the game treats it.

A lot of people say that the more you climb less pluggers you get, yet yesterday 4/5 matches i had plugged on me on the last hit needed to kill them...after that i got so frustrated i just played player matches...

i dont know much about tekken 8 on PC since I'm playing on PS but it's worth noting that while save files were stored locally for Tekken 7, that didn't mean losing your rank when switching or formatting PCs. The files were constantly uploaded to Steam Cloud so you would still get them back.

The very BEST way to leave a match is to just leave after the match. I do like that you can see the recent players in the community tab there. Good to know

I’m curious, would people consider what I’ve done with my controls as “Cheating”? I play on Keyboard and my inputs are as followed, 1=J 2=I 3=M 4=K and the normal WASD for directional inputs, but I’ve bound O to forward as well(U is Back as well, so I can use this on both sides). So basically when I do godfists I press S, I, and O right after pressing D. For me splitting up the inputs to focus more on my right hand just makes things easier. I’m still doing the same timing as you would doing normally, it’s just split up differently between my hands. I definitely have much higher success rates, but I’m pretty far from perfect and it certainly isn’t a game changer seeing I play Jin mostly. But curious whether people considered this cheating or not.

could your save have been restored from cloud data? i remember that a few yearn into 7 i had to reinstall all etc. and suddently i had a save file from like 3 months after buying the game(wich i lost the same way lol). met a tekken god prime, or whatever it is called, nina in players who almost got 2-0 by my radnom pick alisa. didnt even know alisa strings or anything and my main is currrently at the end of red ranks...i love tekken.

It would be cool if it gave you a tally mark somewhere for everyone that you made disconnect as a kind of reward in lieu of going up in rank.

Might be a bit off subject but when we use to log in to t7 on my Xbox but on my friends account. When I log back into my account all my costumes and offline rank would disappear. Didn't know I could save it, I thought it auto saved

Interesting video, thank you. It is unrelated but I come from Chess that is plagued by cheaters online which is driving many players to quit online play lately. I hope Tekken's devs will take the issue seriously, particularly concerning the scripts/macros. Awarding a loss to the disconnector is a way to deter this kind of cheat. No need to give the win to the other player though as you said the loss of time is still problematic for the victim of such unsportsmanlike behaviour.

your rank being restored after a factory reset of your pc does not necessarily prove that the current rank of a player is stored on namco servers. steam nowadays has cloud savegames so in case the tekken devs declared the file that stores your rank as a save file for steam it'll be restored from the steam cloud and has not touched a namco server whatsoever. could be easily tested of course by turning off cloud sync savegames for tekken 8 in your steam library and then starting the game after factory reset

Solving cheating is literally impossible, unless you're riot games and your players let you install rootkits on their computers (huge privacy risk, especially since riot is part owned by China). Let me explain. Lets say bamco create an anti-cheat where the game detects extremely similar inputs and deems them to be macros. First you run into the issue of false positives, where the system tags honest players by accident. Second, it will only work for a little bit, as the cheaters will figure out a loophole and work around it. Then Bamco has to work around their workaround, and on and on it goes. Trust me, I've seen this song and dance play a million times in CSGO. The only way to beat cheating for real is community banning and having a strong healthy playerbase. All I need from bamco to do is let us ban cheaters or pluggers more easily. Once they're "soft-banned", the problem mitigates massively.

cheating in tekken 7 was so rampant and well documented that i received the following comment on my steam profile a week before t8 came out "you are fah-king cheating dude. no way someone can have a fight iQ like that especially against Eddy Gordo." all i did was backdash and duck a few times 😭i think the paranoia might be one of the worst parts of all this

I think half of the points for a win would be good for the player who got plugged on. It’s enough to kind of reward them for their time, but not so much that sitting through load times leaves it a viable method for boosting.

Just letting you know that ranks are *still stored locally*, the reason FrameWhisperer was able to retain his rank after a fresh install of windows is most likely due to steam cloud saves. You can see this for yourself if you check your Local folder in the hidden %AppData% in windows. The different folders are TekkenGame for Tekken 7, Tekken 8 for Tekken 8 (duh), and Polaris for the CNT build for Tekken 8. All of these contain basically the same .sav file names which do the exact same thing they did in Tekken 7. Sadly, save scumming is still a thing in this game.

I think the block list works on whether or not they match up with you. The block list can fill up so thats their detterant to using it just on players you dont wanna replay. I use it if someone's internet is awful or their pc cant run the game. Also theres a dedicated report for intentional plugging button in the report function it's under report regarding a battle instead of regarding a player.

I'm new to Tekken. The game looks great, but some things are very strange. Why not use the standard system, that the one who left the game lost, and the one who stayed won? And why is there no way to leave the match (except by closing the game)? Just press the exit button and get your loss. It's so strange that this button isn't there. It's like I have to play the game to the end no matter what happens and whether I want or not.

I did run into a lot of players who disconnected when theyre about to lose in Tetris Effect Connected. Super annoying and I started recording them.

Sidestepping a ban is just a tekken reference

Plugging is most annoying when they do it a couple seconds right before they lose, and in that case is almost 100% intentional, if it happens at any other point during the match is highly possible due to internet connection or something, specially if the one who disconnects was winning. They have a way of knowing before a critical hit impacts who's going to win, when they do the "Great" slow motion thing. They also have the Ghost feature with ghosts from all players. Combining those features and a bit of logic, it can be solved. To solve this the game can "know" if the match was close to end, if one player disconnects it could have a small threshold of about 2 seconds and either "simulate" with the ghost of the disconected player or just assume what would have happened and assing the win. If the disconnected player had less than X% of life on the last round, it is almost certain that it was on purpose. Also the game can know if you hit ALT+F4 or the PS Button.

I ran into a dude playing Kazuya, his name was tekbot or something like that and he was using scripts, he has been the only dude I've found cheating in Tek8 so far

I've never heard Plugging before and I've played lots of fighting games for decades. We just said Ragequit. I heard "Spitter" once (spitting out the disk) Also "save scumming" is years old and exists outside of Fighting Games too. I think I first heard that one in like 2012 on a trophy hunter forum talking about reloading a save to get multiple endings for a trophy without multiple playthroughs lmao. Beyond these cheating methods there are people who use Lag Tools to make matches lag when it benefits them then switch it off when they need good connection.

What were they supposed to say with cheating in 7 if people could just remove the bans anyway? I feel like that's probably why they never addressed it, cause there was probably never gonna be an answer or solution that would sound good/satisfy anyone or even work.

There is another way of cheating (No vulnerability frames) I am not competitive person and whenever i have free time i am trying to become better in Tekken 8 with my Nina. I dont care about ranking because i know i will never reach the top ranks. I only play for fun and try to do my daily and weekly. While i was playing i noticed users who i couldnt punish them, there were no vulnerability frames and they could break mine frames even if i wasnt vulnerable. I thought i was useless but after i saw some videos about cheating and then i learn that the 80% of PC users uses macros, script, etc. I fought one today, i won the 1st round and then he was almost invulnerable, but even then i thought that he was better than me, but apparently not, he was a cheater... I did a mistake to not report them but i didnt know if i was 100% sure about he was cheating Tekken Tag 1 in PS2 was the last Tekken i bought because after that (Since Tekken 4 till 7) they made Nina ugly as hell. So i stop support the crap, they destroyed both Nina and game. When i played the demo of 8, i saw Nina was beautiful again, 95% same to her Venus version of Death By Degrees and the gameplay was fantastic and not OP AI. So i bought it I really enjoy it despite the fact it has poor and awful customization. Then they release the Tekken Shop, something that i am not against it because they will bring all our legacy skins and they will be rewarded for that and its not greedy (consider the fact that SF6 has 16 euros/outfit...) jesus... So i said i will buy only stuff for Nina and the ones i like. for example Nina hairstyle and blood vengeance outfit bundle ( 2 items 4 euros) But when they release the fight pass and I notice that it can be done in online ONLY i didnt get it and i will never get something that force me to do something i dont want to do. If they ever make the dailies and weeklies to be done via offline i would love to get it (if also gives nice stuff and not goofy items) So if there are people who wants to do casual daily and weekly to farm xp and help eachother let me know to add you in Steam and have fun. P.S. A win without honor is no win at all.

tekken 8 is my first tekken, and only my second fighting game. ive been playing a little bit of ranked and ive had a LOT of pluggers. its actually pretty funny. also, i wouldnt be surprised if the block button actually prevents people from matching with you. i used to play a lot of Overwatch comp and blocking certain players was, and still is a very common way to make the game easier because they cant be matched with you.

Honestly it would be cool if Namco could game the system gamers - I imagine something like an algorithm that reviews the inputs per match for players over time. First an initial warning could be issued to players to warn that cheating has been detected (if that is possible). And then simply deduct points for every match that is considered to be a cheat.

What about scripts to block lows/ tech throws being used in tournaments? Online tournaments like TNS are played for money right? If these cheats aren't common in Tekken, there are also macros that can be hidden well for EWGF for example that you mentioned.

I think it still saves locally, just like t7. If you wiped HD in T7 and reinstalled youd still be same rank, but ifbyou delete the savegame file locally it would reset your rank

I still play T7 and there's a player named "han" who disconnects every time he's about to lose. I hope the Namco adds an option to report a player such han, review the match reported and apply necessary deductions or penalties and also like banning if it's a habit of that player to disconnect.

Not really cheating, but, at least in my matches, there is no honor whatsoever in playing out a ranked set. People are soooo protective of their rank in blues (Raijin currently). I already have a hard time finding matches in my region, aso ranking up is super difficult. And people quit after losing one match to protect their precious ranked points. I had this same issue in Tekken 7

I believe they can do something about the rage quitting for but for the save scumming not so much especially on PC.

I have faced maybe 1 plugger since playing tekken 8. That said, tekken servers seem to always kick me and my friends off mid match and throw us into offline mode. I've been kicked out of like 4-5 ranked matches while winning due to the connection issues. Never had this problem in t7

Forcing console players to play with, the cesspool of PC players that hack and cheat or mod to win on almost every game is bullshit. Id rather have just crossplay with Xbox. And before someone says turn crossplay off, yes I know this but two things. Then I can't play with Xbox and almost all crossplay games do not let you turn it off. Only a few like Tekken 8 do.

I don't care if someone hotkeys a difficult input. I remap 1+2 and 3+4 to my triggers for easy spring kick input. Scripting actual cheating Plugging needs to be handled by showing the disconnecting rate.

I think a win on your record when someone plugs on your record is fine. but maybe giving the full points would be too easily exploitable so perhaps some supplementary points and the win on the record is enough? Auto loss with stacking point loss for the pluggers is pretty good though, ofc needs some leeway for unintentional disconnects but I think that would work.

Sometimes it really feels like I fight cheaters. Like, i know im not much good, but some are just insanely timed or I lose matches against those with "bad connections".

They should track whether or not someone is winning or losing when they DC and if they DC enough times while losing then they get banned

i dont think disconnect inditator works....played like 1200 games, never seen anyone other than 0% disconnect rate, but i seen many pluggers, like 1/15 games

I dont think giving the opposing player a win when someone plugs would make the boosting issue much worse - It might if anything be a little slower than the booster just playing out the 2 games.

I disagree about the block button. Using the block function inside Tekken did not block the person on Steam from friending or messaging me, its not connected to Valve's block function. There's no social functions in the game aside from the "Follow" button. Maybe its to block someone from following your rank, but that seems odd for there to be a block function per person for that. I believe its a limited block list like Smash Ultimate uses, there's likely a maximum cap like 100 names can be blocked at a time and it rolls off as you block more.

There is a one problem I have with punishing people who disconnect mid match with just three strikes. The game has a lot of crashing issues on PC, even for those that have pretty beefy rigs like me. So it’s not just an issue of “Get better internet” sometimes the game just isn’t optimised and has issues with crashing. And even if you can fix it with upgrading your PC, that is a huge thing to ask someone to invest into just to play a game and will likely just push people away if this becomes their problem.

About your internet you know that every net provider has a daily forced disconnection right? Those are set around 2am usually. You can change the time for that on your router settings. Secondly do console player really have the option to save their rank locally? Because I only heard thats pc only. Cheating with macros is just the tip of the iceberg. It exists in almost every game and not only fighting games. The bigger issue are literally hacks. I saw brawlbro showing some guy who just sets the opponent lifebar to 0 at the beginning of the match just like that. He himself streams and he's the rank 1 paul. I also remember somebody used a hack of Kazumi Devil mode online in T7 back then lol I also saw on day JDCR playing vs a hacker who sets the lifebar of the opponent to 1hp but it show on your side your normal full lifebar. On his side he wins on your side you get a synch error.

I don't really care about plugging because players are going to do it even with consequences, I'm more interested in knowing if the Tekken 7 cheats will be a problem on 8 too before deciding between PC or PS5. Regarding the rank exploit, it could just mean that the rank is stored in a file that steam cloud saves and not stored in the servers (altho I doubt it). Also the blacklist system in FGs can absolutely work, in SF5 it was limited to 50 players and it didn't impact anyone matchmaking. Honestly if there's a game that needs it it's Tekken; I watched my brother and cousin play 7 a lot on PS and the amount of King/Nina players with gibberish names, skull masks and 30 winstreak in teal/green ranks (aka smurfs) was depressing. You can just make a PS account in 2 secs and ruin the new player experience worse than the Tekken dev team already does.

Solution for the boosting problem would be to award points based on the match state when the disconnection happens. Having won 2 rounds would net the player 2/3 of the points, reduced by 10% to make this unattractive for boosters.

Luckily...Cheating is actually being addressed. I think I encountered a savescummer online, or maybe it was a bug. It was a Kuma player on demotion, I defeated that player on his demotion yet the next match I fought that player, he still had a demotion debuff despite the fact he should've been demoted already...it's odd though because savescumming isn't possible anymore 💀...

Ran into a few PC/Console cheaters already. I've stopped playing rank until something can be done about them.
