Check Engine Light of Death for Kia and Hyundai?

Hey Good People,
The patient in this video is a 2018 Kia Sportage. Customer States that it lost power, and the check engine light is on. In my experience the particular code that pops up on my scanner is never a good sign. I had a relative with a Hyundai Veloster that had this same issue. For those of you who don't know, some Hyundai's and Kia's share the same engine and give the same problems.
Let me know in the comments did anyone own or has owned in the past, one of these vehicles and had the same problem. What was the result?

My wife had a Kia 🤮. Now she got a Durango. Same problems you talked about but I’m starting to fix it myself thanks to your channel.

Hello Mr. Alex! I live in Florida and will be in your area within the next few months. I have a 2012 Toyota Corolla with 290,000 on it. Nothing is wrong with the car but I just wanted to bring it in just for a checkup. You seem to be a honest and thoughtful mechanic from looking at your videos.

I salute you for checking for checking for that warranty! I know greedy mechanics who will just do the work, charge an arm and leg and the work still wouldn't be done correctly.

I have bought three Kia’s and one Hyundai over the course of 14 years. All have been fantastic vehicles. I did have to replace a license plate lightbulb on my Rio after 95,000 miles but hey… Oh yeah, I did have a ‘check engine light’ on the Rio after 98,000 miles also. Had to replace my gas cap. I think I fared much better than many Toyota owners with that ridiculous CVT transmission. Speaking of Toyota, that’s what got me started on the road with South Korean vehicles. My wife and I bought a brand new 2011 Camry SE. Leaked oil on my driveway when we brought it home. Apparently the robot in charge of sealing the oil pan didn’t do a good job that day. After the warranty job was completed, we promptly took the car to a Kia dealer and never looked back.

It seems like hit or miss with Kia/Hyundai? I own both brands and have good experience with them. My 2015 Kia Sorento has 190,000 trouble free miles. My 2013 Hyundai Sonata has 210,000 trouble free miles.

This just happened to me two days ago in my 2015 Optima SXL (which I still love Kia haters). A shame because in the past decade they’ve been making beautiful cars but with crap engines among other issues. Getting a free engine under their warranty and this happened at 122,603 miles so I find it ironic how close in mileage they are. Still love my Jennifer, but for my next car will probably do a nice fully loaded Toyota that I’ll have more peace of mind in and not worry daily about what may go wrong.

Yeah my wife’s Sorento had this issue and it created horrible rod bearing wear. Some KIAs have a recall for this

I drove through water and my flashing check engine came on,,took it to my mechanic and it was just water on a spark plug,,nothing more 😂😂😂😂

Great content, loved the personalities! Humble tip from an audience member: if the final video product was smoother, I think it'll really elevate the level of your channel and delivery. To elaborate, I mean having the cuts and general script planned to make it run smooth instead of bouncing to a spontaneous idea mid-video. Otherwise fantastic! I loved watching. :)))

This currently happening with my 2020 KIA Optima. Alex performed diagnostics on my car and determined the engine is failing and to take it to a KIA Dealership Service Center. I have an extended warranty and took the vehicle to one of the repair shops and they too performed the same diagnostics and the extended warranty people and due to the "known issues" of KIA and Hyundai motors want me to take it to the dealership. KIA Service Departments in the Altanta area are backed up some weeks and some months prior to EVEN GETTING TO DIAGNOSTICS. My VIN isn't part of the class action settlements or a part of any recall regarding this 2020 engine. Those of us who purchased a 2020 KIA or HYUNDAI have a recourse - FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA regarding the issues you've had with your 2020 KIA or HYUNDAI to make KIA take a look at these engines and make the customer whole. Please file your complaint.

Nope not misfire Knock sensor take it to Kia to have BCT done Bearing Clearance test so they can do a PWA.

When people get these cars they also put the cheapest gas ⛽️ possible and constantly run the fuel pump on empty. It’s a lose lose scenario but you get what you pay for…

The engine light flashing check engine light is practically the death of a Hyundai or Kia and if the Hyundai or Kia bad luck and that crabon problem as with direct injection has been fixed by Toyota by also having port injection and there are new cars that still have port injection thatis a car brand not available in the USA that is Suzuki we have a Suzuki Baleno we have one and l live in Australia the simple thing is don't buy a Hyundai or Kia its a gamble which unfortunately you will lose

I don't understand why people buy Hyundai/ Kia? They are cheap but the engines have so many problems. Chrysler and GM are actually much better. Hyundai is the Asian brand to avoid.

Yep the sportage is a perfect example of a toy engine in a fancy shell. Kia be cutting costs to a criminal level on most of their larger vihicles. But boy would they kill it if they just stopped penny pinching and released a hybrid sol with a sodium instead of lithium bat. I think this engine would last perfectly fine in a smaller vehicle especially with the added boost from the battery. It seems they are on the right track with the niro although they still used a lithium ion battery😢 and idk if they improved their security either..
