So the dreaded Check Engine light is on, it’s not flashing but stays illuminated so at least that indicates it’s probably not serious…
Good news right?
So let’s not panic prematurely.
But what is causing it and what am I going to do to get it to go out and without spending a fortune.
We have 2 fault codes P405 relating to the Exhaust recirculation valve (EGR Valve) and P02A8 which is telling us we have a restricted fuel injector.
I have only a few weeks until the MOT is due and it wont pass with the check engine light on so I’m motivated to fix it.
In this episode I am going to find out why the check engine light has come on in my high mileage Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 L322 then weigh up my options before picking the easiest , quickest and cheapest solution to fix it myself.
Using two fuel additives , Cataclean Diesel and STP High Milage Diesel Injection Cleaner will our DIY Car Repair work this time?

This is hope restoring. I am going to go exactly that on my tdv8 engine and I TRUST it will solve my problem.

I use Bardhall 5 in 1 for diesel , every 10.000 km it's work well , sorry for my bad english ; the quality of diesel is very important ; i use total excellium diesel or shell v power diesel. And when I have a range rover sport I plan to use these fuels and additives and making all services myself.

Hi @vinceremedy , thanks for the comment. I’ve owned many Rangies over the years, including the P38 4.6L V8, L322 2002-2006 with the 3.0l TDV6 and even tried the L405 when it first arrived which I hated and which gave the most problems of any RR I’ve ever owned and it was so bad I vowed never to own one again. For me personally I’m a huge fan of the L322 2006-2012 with the 3.6 TDV8. The engine is solid and hard (but not impossible) to break. Like any RR they have problems and it's usually expensive to fix but if you are hands on and willing to tackle most jobs then they are viable. Conversely if you are going to have to rely on a garage or worse still a dealer then they are going to cost a fortune (likely more than the car is worth) to keep on the road and if its the latter I would advise not to get one! If you can find one that has been looked after and not run into the ground with no money spent on them then perfect otherwise you will hit a lot of expensive issues very quickly. The L322’s do suffer with rust under the sills at the rear so of there are any signs of rust when you open the rear doors or any rust on the rear quarter panel wheel arches then it will likely be rotten underneath the plastic sill covers. They can be repaired if not too far gone but you will need to get them welded. The upper tailgates are the other area which rust and thats a DIY job that can be done too. I’ve done both of those repairs myself. Sorry for such a long answer but hope it gives you food for thought!
