She's so right! My local stores were CRAZY this week.

i am a cashier and all of this was so true. usually people have the good sense to start writing the check while they're waiting in line. and i'm so used to people paying with a card that right after i hit total, i immediately push the button to start the pin pad. so it's awkward when they pay with cash.

depending on what browser you have you can get a app that turns off ads. It works on ALL website. Which is AWESOME!

Here in Ireland most people still pay with cash. I work at a checkout and I think it's like 25% card, 5% check (usually 3rd party) and 70% cash). I remember these American tourists so happy when I said that we did accept card as so many others in our town don't (it's a really small town, besides us it's all little shops).

Ellen, actually some large grocery stores have a printing machine that it prints everything the stores need on the check, and you only need to sign it.

I am a bank cashier, and it bugs me how long people take. The worst thing is people who wait in the queue and look at you angrily, then when they get to the counter, they haven't even got their stuff done so you then have to wait for them. COME ON PEOPLE.

lol i work in a grocery store and i had the automatic change dispenser. And it amazing how many people actually forget to grab it too. so the coins just pile up in the cup

I'm a cashier at a store and when someone pulls out a check book I die a little!

Ellen and I must be shopping at different stores because I can't remember the last time I saw someone trying to buy their groceries with a cheque. Also the stores I shop at have been using those change dispensers for almost 10 years.

I didn't know stores still accepted cheques. Most don't accept them here in Canada.

That's funny, in France it doesn't take much time to do a check when you are in a supermarket, you just have to sign it and a machine fill in the other blanks for you :)

Yes i can understand i was a cashier for the last 8 years at a supermarket and yes all one can have is patience with all these people., i had to a least to keep sane and that way i had more cutomers.:)

In British English it is spelled with a "c". In Canada both spellings are recognized but "offence" is more commonly used.

You kno it would great if they would write the check as they were standing in line, then all they have to do is write in the dollar amount.

I work at Target and get at least 5 people who write checks in a simple 4 hour shift every time. It's the worst cause seriously they take the longest time in the world. And it's true, the people behind do get their stuff and go to another line. Haha!

My grandma wrote a check on Black Friday and she had to pull out her glasses and slowly write whilst I was saying" hurry up grandma look at these pissed people behind us", and of course since it was on Black Friday everyone else was taking 3 seconds while my grandma was taking 3 hours.

Cash and carry is the only way I go. And when shopping online I use a gift card.

Sometimes I get annoyed at all the cheering, then I remember it's for Ellen and width I could cheer too.
