I'll never forget the day the Royal Gramma was flopping around inside the filter sock! He took a ride over the coast-to-coast overflow, into the external box, down the tubes. I only have a 50 gallon so I throw about a tablespoon of phosban into the filter sock because that really helps. (I've never recorded and phosphate yet on the salifert kit..) Not enough volume to bother running a reactor. So every time I replace the filter sock I push the sock inside out to collect the phosban in a bowl, rinse it a little and reuse it into the new sock. This time was a big surprise!

I always check too but it's important to be careful as bristle worms, especially little ones you may not see right away if your turning it inside out could be there to sting you and leave your fingers irritated for several days.
