Glad to know I could help. It definitely takes a little while before this stuff becomes intuitive. Don't worry before you know it, you'll be "one with the cells" you work with :)

I feel this is very easier to see with adherent cell cultures. Does the same approach apply for freely suspended cells cultures?

For suspended cultures we typically look at increase in turbidity of the culture either visually or through spectrophotometry. Suspended cultures are considered over confluent and no longer in the log phase of growth typically with absorbance above 1 or because cells in the culture begin to clump together and float on top of the culture.
