Language is my "If I had to choose one album to take on a deserted island" album. Just endlessly entertaining, never gets boring and doesn't have a single track that's less than a full 10/10. What a masterpiece.

This album holds a special place in my heart, especially the "rediscovered" version, where they reinterpreted 4 of thoe songs in an a mostly acoustic session. REALLY worth a watch, as they also released these songs as videos

@@ckokomo808 Same here. I seen them live in 2016 when I was going through a lot, and speaking to Mike (the vocalist) afterward, he told me to "stay safe and to seek comfort." Which was kind of strange to hear as I was only talking about how much I loved Language, but it really stuck with me and I think about it a lot to this day when I listen to them and that album in particular.

This is one of the great modern prog metal albums in my opinion. Just a gorgeous and beautifully composed, unique piece of work. For anyone looking for another modern prog metal album with a similar sound, try Skyharbor's Guiding Lights, can't recommend that album enough either.

Great call on Skyharbor. I was way into those guys when this one came out. Second one and subsequent work wasn't as good, but you nailed it, that album is an unheralded classic album. Dots, Celestial, Catharsis. And can't find it on streaming anymore!!

I only first heard of The Contortionist through the channel, but they always blow me away with their sound! I LOVE the ambient soundscapes they create, just all of this floaty, "drifting" feeling that comes with it. Always a pleasure to see them pop up here and for us to chill out with some great music.🤙 Thanks Geebz! Appreciate all you do, and love ya, man. I'm still here, and keep on rocking!🤘

Awwriiiight, revisiting The Contortionist. If you do any other reactions from this album I highly-highly recommend Ebb and Flow. The outro of that song is everything I love about this album wrapped up into one section.

One of the best prog albums to ever be released. I really hope they can get another album out. They've been really quiet since the pandemic began. I know they've all gotten married and had children and had deaths in their families so they can take as long as they need, but I'm jonesin' for it.

The Contortionist are one of my favourite bands ever . Michael Lessard’s voice with the fuelling guitars and the tight and glorious drumming with melodic bass lines . I personally love every song on this album . My favourite would be Thrive or Language 1 or The source acoustic . They did a version of the album with 4 acoustic versions of their songs . Each acoustic tune is so gorgeous . I love the lyrics in this album .. they have a profound and meditative spiritual feel to them . Thank you so much for chatting about the musicianship !! I loved to hear your comments about the drumming and bass tone . I’m a guitarist myself but I will say they have some of the best guitar tones I’ve heard. And the bass and drums sound out of this world too. I love that Contortionist are not afraid to be melodic . To go from crushing dissonance and bouncy riffs to an sound scape that keeps building to a conclusion almost like a post rock song ! But totally different :) Their album ‘ Clairvoiyant’ after this is a lot less aggressive and goes deeper into a whole new sound . Personally I love this as much as I love each album . They also released an ep called Our bones. If you’re feeling really brave I would be curious to hear you check out Last Chance to Reason and their song Upload Complete . Mike lessard started there and came to be the vocalist of Contortionist later on . If the devil was a hot female 😂 that was very intriguing ! Contortionist are so so amazing as musicians and Jamie King is an incredible mixer / producer . He also does Between the Buried and Me albums too ! Take care Geebz and I hope you have an amazing day ! This was a lot of fun to see your reaction and to hear your musician brain picking apart the song

I would LOVE to see a Bryson vs. Andrew debate. I endorse this, Brian. I know you intentionally avoid talks of religion/Christianity since you believe "it's not dating related", but religion/faith IS important to a lot of us in the dating schema, even if it's not a priority for you. And it seems that you considered this for at least a moment when it was mentioned in the chat. Not to mention, I think the debating episodes you do should cover any and all relevant topics to society, since the presence/absence of ethics DO matter in shaping it. Especially if you already debate abortion on them, which is as relevant of a moral issue as religion, and is contained in that system of ethics. You could cover literally any and all moral issues, including those more relevant to dating. Many of us would tune in for this.

Probably my least fav album of theirs. Feel like they did prog deathcore better on the earlier albums and prog metal better on the album that followed, and this kind of floundered in the middle. So many people seem to love it though, and it brought them so much success, so good for them - guess it's just personal taste 🤷‍♂️
