I'm a single mama too and this video helped me tremendously. All I could think of was, "Lord! Not now! I don't need this now!", when my machine died the same error codes. I found loose change, hair twisties, bra pads, and a Bobby pin. I thank GOD for you and this video. Keep 'em coming and GOD bless you and yours!

Super helpful and fixed my problem. One additional item, I took off the drain hose and cleaned that out first, hoping it would solve the problem. It didn't, but lots of gross stuff came out of the hose so may be worth adding that to your list of potential fixes.

Future generations may call you Lifesaver. I don’t know how much money you saved this household, but you saved me from a weekend of frustration, hurt feelings and unecessary anger. I caused the damage, twas a guitar pick that brought on the fault. Your video may not qualify you for sainthood, but you are a superhero in my book. Two things i would add: Wear workgloves, the backplate cuts like a knife. (Not really an issue unless you are working in tight quarters like i was, still…) The machine will drain for 8-10 minutes after cleaning, be patient. (I wasn’t…) Jesse, the Maytag Repairman, had another day of solitaire at the office thanks to you dude. (Mixing metaphors?) Thank you!

Happy to help. Guitar pick, that’s a new one. Sounds like it’s mostly bra pads and washable facemasks causing the issues these days. I’ll remind my wife and kids that I’m a superhero, at least in some households.😀 Have a great day.

Awesome, this fixed mine. I had error code F03 E01. Door lock light was flashing and machine was humming. Went in and clicked power button (which evidently clears the error code). Couldn't power back on and lock light still flashed. Tried unplugging, leaving, and plugging back in. It instantly went back to humming and lock light flashing. Performed the steps in this video and cleaned out a very hairy trap and lint filled trap. Put everything back to rights and plugged back in. Still humming and door locked. Left on and humming (which is actually the drain cycle) for about 10 minutes and it eventually stopped and shut off. Went to machine, was able to power it on with the power button, and everything worked as expected. All in all this was relatively easy (30 minutes of work) and everything was fixed. Thank you for putting out the video.

Thank you! This video saved me a service call to my local appliance repair shop! Best of all I was able to get our machine up and running quickly. Awesome help. Having a medium size mixing bowl handy to catch the water will be an asset. We had trouble putting the plug back in afterwards because it kept wanting to cross-thread. Thanks for this! Just as described. One pointer: If your load is full, don't force drain it (obviously) but it takes a long time to let the water drain into the bowl. Don't pull out the plug--just unscrew it till the water drains. It took 15-20 bowls of water before I could remove the trap. Had I removed the trap right off, we'd have had a deluge.

You were right but I was in a hurry and just did it before reading comments. I had a small bucket handy in case I could use it but it was 1/2" too high to stick in there. So I made a small flood that I've cleaned up but the water got under the floor boards and who knows if it will dry ok or cause more problems.

Just finished following the steps described in your great video. The knob was hard to turn by hand but I used small channel lock pliers and gently turned it counter clockwise. Once it was loose I could turn it by hand and remove the filter. Two quarters and two pennies later I was able to tighten everything back up and try the washer. It seems to be working again and we’re so thankful for your video. Best regards!

Tip: you can slowly remove the filter by opening slightly and reclosing, use a shallow bowl (pet food bowl) to catch water and dump into a bucket repeatedly to avoid a big mess of water. Also reach up into the drain while the filter is out to remove any other items that may be backlogged. Thank you for the video!!!

Excellent video. To catch the water, I used a basin that fit under the trap, and siphoned the water into a larger recepticle. No mess. Turning the trap cover was impossible without a tool. I used an Angle Nose Slip Joint Pliers, not to grip, but to twist like my fingers would.

This is an excellent video!!! So well done. All the little things mentioned. Solved my problem entirely. I have dogs. My clogged with dog hair. Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. Meant I didn't have to call a S=service technician. THANK YOU !!! The cycle had stopped in the middle of a cycle, so there was a *huge* amount of water on the hardwood floor. It was tough getting it up. I would suggest that people put more than a shallow bowl as they remove it if it is mid cycle. I would put as large a pan as I could below the drain as it is removed. That still may not be enough if it is mid-cycle, but it's something. I like the suggestion someone made about a tote. In any case, do not underestimate the amount of water that might be inside the machine ready to come out of that drain. When I buy a washing machine again, it is absolutely essential that there is a front access door for this filter. The Maytag 5500 washer I have got high Consumer Reports ratings. What do they know about dog hair and drains? I had gone three or four years without cleaning mine. Now I'm going to have to clean it every year at least. I don't want this problem again. This model was designed to meet a price point not for serviceability.

I checked the trap, nothing. I replaced the pump, same problem. I replaced the air valve, same problem. I replaced the check valve, same problem. My wife then got the bright idea to change the spin cycle Medium on every wash load. So far, it has been 6 months without a problem. I think sometimes the spin cycle doesn't let the water drain causing the problem. Change the spin rate to medium or slow and see if it helps!

Another, potentially easier way to get at the strainer is to pull the washer forward, then rock it backwards exposing the bottom. Then take off the bottom plate (mine has two screws and two plastic retention plugs). The strainer is then nicely exposed and I can get a fairly large tote under it. I just did mine and didn’t spill a drop. I contemplated not re-installing the bottom plate to make it easier the next time, but I did re-install it. And like the content creator stated, my drain strainer was clogged (with a plastic label from a new pair of jeans). Thanks for the video man!

Thank you for this. Mine was also full of junk. There were 3 color catchers in the trap. Washer works like a charm now.
