Almost sickening to see how much infrastructure was just 'swept away' to allow the motor car and polluting truck to take over - or just for it to become overgrown, not even a footpath. So many of these picturesque lines would now be perfect for heritage railways if they could be reopened but not at the expense of the high-speed line quotations for new lines. I could watch these kind of films all day - I know this area quite well (my sister lives in Cheddar) and it seems a waste for the cost of the original construction to be so easily disregarded and abandoned. There's room for replacement here - if the waste of money the Govt. oversees could be redirected in a productive way a lot of these links could be reinstated and the benefits would be many-fold. Excellent series. Thank you. 18:12 How anyone ever thought it a good idea to paint trains that screeching 'nails-down-a-blackboard' blue is beyond me. People had access to this vile blue right up to the 1960s, but they had the good taste not to use it - until then. This colour jumps out of the English landscape in the most grotesque manner.
