The stakes on the mat are high, but for these cheerleaders, the only thing more brutal than their workouts and more exceptional than their performances are the stories of adversity and triumph behind the athletes themselves.
From the team behind Last Chance U, Netflix’s new documentary series "Cheer" follows the competitive cheerleaders of the 14-time National Championship winning team at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX.
Over the course of six episodes join the team members as they face injuries, sacrifice, personal setbacks and triumphs, all leading up to one nail-biting and adrenaline pumping final competition at the National Championship.
Cheer premieres on January 8, only on Netflix.

The only weird part for me is that "after college you have to retire" In my small country we only have non-profit cheer clubs, nobody does it at school etc. We have roughly 12 000 cheerleaders in the country and maybe 1% of them are senior coed. And literally all of them do it as a "hobby" and there is no age limit. Some of the national champions are competing at the age of 25-35. Can't fathom that you would need to stop nationals-level cheer after college. My point is, since cheer is such a huge thing in the US, with literally millions of athletes, isn't there an incentive to keep people in the sport even after college?

@King Charles AYY, Tell it from within! I agree on exposing cheerleading malpractice, like any industry, but don't forget the people who bring this _entertainment_ to you are also a closed circuit. You don't stop questioning who's telling you what's real, ever.
@seancostello26
@seancostello26 3 жыл бұрын
@@OttoGrainer27 i think you missed what he said entirely. Male cheerleading is a bunch of pedophile coaches and trainers, the entire "sport" creates a culture of bullying and mistreatment in school, which by the way every single person in america is aware of, and the people that choose to do this with their lives and dedicate all of their time on it go on to have no careers. Because there's no future in cheerleading unless you make it onto the dallas cowboys. Good luck with that.

Love Navarro College. That’s where I started my Journey to becoming a Registered Nurse. They also have one of the most respected Nursing Programs in the state of Texas if not the nation. Navarro college puts out a lot of great things. A lot of people shy away from two year colleges but I learned 5 to 10 times more at Navarro than I did when I finished my Bachelors degree at Texas Tech,which is also great, but Navarro is where it is at. The staff there are great people and many are from strong Christian backgrounds. Absolutely proud to be a graduate from there. They helped me lay the foundation of where I am now. I started in the associates degree nursing program there (ADN) and now I’m an Infection Preventionist. Go Bulldogs!

As someone who used to cheer competitively, I can attest to the blood, sweat and tears that goes into nailing a routine. One thing that cheerleading ingrained in me was teamwork . You can’t pull off those stunts without it, you need a shared vision, amazing communication and supreme trust in your peers. To this day I credit my ability to preserve, cooperate with others and endure difficulty because of cheerleading. Invaluable experience!

Watching this cheer show in particular, made me SO emotional. I used to cheer on and off throughout school and then got sucked into partying in HS. Biggest regret, wish I could’ve stuck it out and gone to college for it.

I love how Netflix makes all these differents shows and documentations. Cheerleading is not a big thing in my country and I didn't even know how much work this sport is. Hopefully they make a second season, because I loved the first one :D

I remember watching competitive collegiate level cheerleading on ESPN when I was in high school back in the late 90's and early 2000's and it was a little like watching Olympic level gymnastics. I'm just amazed that only now after this docu series premiered on Netflix are people finding this out, but maybe these folks are considerably younger than me or something as I just turned 34 a few months ago.
