Cheetah Eat A Waterbuck Until Vultures Take Over | Kruger National Park

Two cheetah had caught a young waterbuck and had just started to eat when we found them. We were able to watch the cheetah eat undisturbed for some time before vultures started to land. Eventually the sheer number of vultures were enough to push the cheetah away. The cheetah still had full bellies so they didn't lose out at least! Once the vultures took over and started to eat the waterbuck it was not long before it was completely consumed. Unfortunately one vehicle became impatient and pushed past the sighting before the vultures were totally finished.

The challenge for cheetahs is there are no left overs and to go meals like Lions and Leopards - they dine in and some times involuntary have to leave

Beautiful cheetahs. I feel sad for them, as a predator they remain the bottom level of security to defense for themselves. Even at eating, they have to rush as much as they could.

Thanks, KZfaq automatically places the ads and I can only edit them on a computer, this went live whilst I was on safari so I can't fix it till I'm home, usually they don't put a lot, especially on a continuous scene like this.

Just wondering for my own knowledge. I know cheetahs are highly specialized which is why there rather slim build is not worth risking in a fight between say hyenas / leopards or lions coming to scavenge. But why would they give it up to the vultures? Have they simply eaten enough and want to leave the area before something bigger comes, as they dont usually hold/gaurd prey? Or Are the Vultures really able to chase them off?

Im no expert but from what I’ve seen, Vultures can chase cheetah off their kill if they pressure them for long enough. Cheetah charge back if they feel like they need more food but eventually the pressure from the vultures gets too overwhelming. Also, Vultures attracts other large predators like lions, hyenas, etc. In this case tho, the cheetahs seemed already satisfied and gave it up relatively easily

Have they been doing any testing or research on the animals there for corona virus? I know a few animals here at the San Francisco Zoo have tested positive for the corona virus. They are finding that animals are not necessarily exempt from the virus

Wearing a mask in any public area was strictly enforced in South Africa when this was filmed, anywhere you can get out of the car in the park is considered a public area and indeed other people were around at the time. Not worth getting banned from the park just because some random Internet people may get offended. It's just a bit of cloth after all...

As the cleaning crew get closer inch by inch and realize that the Cheetahs stomachs are full they get even closer and Cheetahs understand that its time to leave. I love this African wildlife 👍👍👍

I'm filming the intro in a public area with other people around and a mask is required by law. The mask on safari is also very helpful against dust and stops the flies landing on your face.
