Dr. Douglas J. Lisle, Ph.D.is the co-author of The Pleasure Trap available here:
www.amazon.com...
Dr. Doug Lisle is an evolutionary psychologist and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness. He and his colleagues (Jennifer Howk and Richard Seidel) have developed a revolutionary method for approaching life challenges and improving self-confidence and self-esteem. They describe their approach as Esteem Dynamics - an approach with clinical insights derived from evolutionary psychology.
Central figures having major influence on the development of Esteem Dynamics include Richard Dawkins, John Tooby and Leda Cosmides, David Buss, Robert Trivers, Steven Pinker, and Geoffrey Miller. All of these individuals are considered world-leading theorists in evolutionary theory and human psychology. Somewhat surprisingly, insights from these trailblazers has yet to reach mainstream clinical psychology, and thus major advances stemming from some of the world’s greatest thinkers have yet to be systematically applied to problems of helping people improve their lives. Esteem Dynamics is the first such effort, and weds Dr. Lisle’s 30-years of clinical experience to the deep insights into human nature only recently available via evolutionary psychology.
Dr. Lisle received his undergraduate education from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia, and was then appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University. His research and clinical interests include health and wellness, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, the treatment of anxiety and depression, the genetics of individual differences, and optimizing achievement motivation. In addition to his work with Esteem Dynamics, Dr. Lisle lectures widely on health and wellness.
Dr Lisle is available at selected days and times for a one-to-one, personal phone consultation:

I do have to say: if you have an open loop, try making an appointment with Dr. Lisle. Best money I ever spent and so worth it. Years of counseling could only get me so far dealing with childhood, (going long into adulthood) continued abuse and criticism. Even cutting off all contact for years hadn't worked. I told Dr. Lisle, it was like there were two different parts of me and one was on an over-the-water bungalow in Bora Bora, staring out at the ocean, surrounded by so much love and joy that it makes me want to cry and this other part of me is in this dark maze, repeatedly slamming into walls and banging my head. Halfway through the session after he had asked me alot of questions and talked to me for awhile, he made this analogy and it was like this big hand reached in and plucked the part of me in the maze right out of my brain. Haven't felt that way since and don't think of it with any emotion anymore. So grateful!! And so relieved. As he always says, Life is too short ... and there are only so many minutes. Bless all of your who are in that dark maze too♥️

Hmmm there are indeed many good studies on intermittent fasting like Dr Longo. I’ve been vegan for 10 years and a bit overweight and health issues and 3 months ago started a 16:8 fasting schedule and have 3 meals in the 8 hour window and doing very well. The most important part for me is closing the kitchen after dinner, has helped my reflux tremendously

And do you think having the same three meals in a 13 hour window would change anything? IF tends to work because people just eat less. They can only cram so much in a smaller window. But it’s reasonable to not eat for an hour after waking and several hours before bed so that means it’s pretty typical to fast for 11 hours a day without doing anything out of the ordinary. I don’t think there’s any magic to IF if the person is able to eat the same amount of food over 13 hours instead of 8. That being said. If something works for you then all you need is an n=1 data set. That’s all that matters. Keep doing what works. Just don’t generalize personal experience to all of humanity. (Not saying you’re doing this).

I would love to hear more about Dr. Goldhammer's follow-up research. I find it reassuring that many of his patients experience improvements with 66 - 75% compliance with WFPBNSOS. I think that those of us who are imperfect humans, but also prone to perfectionism and self-judgment, need to hear more about that. Dr. Lisle's playful, yet direct style is an acquired taste, but I have come to really enjoy and appreciate his insights. He doesn't curate the message for the audience, but tells it like it is! Great job, Chef AJ--I have been enjoying your videos enormously and I find them so motivating.

I guess I’m the one in ten thousand. Been eating in line with Dr Esselstyn’s and Chef AJ’s/MWL guidelines for fourteen years now. I love it. A clean environment and keeping it simple is how I have continued eating this way for the past fourteen years and is THE reason I can keep my family of four fed with healthy, whole plant foods. I just started making some videos of how I make super simple starch staples and lots of veggies for our family, how to use the instapot etc. It can be so simple once your tastebuds adjust. Of course, it helps that I’m an HCNC😂

The talk on open loops makes me wonder if a lot of us who follow this way of eating are able to do so more strictly because we have an open loop about family members and loved ones who are sick or who passed away too soon. 😢

I lost my mom from heart disease, and I STILL feel bad and even guilty, because I had all this knowledge about eating WFPB, but she wasn’t interested. So now that she’s gone, it seems it’s having the opposite affect, in that I’m NOT strict at all, and I’m not taking very good care of myself. 😢

Wow, that is interesting on his take on intermittent fasting - there is a lot of science behind fasting and resting the body. Great interview as always, Chef AJ. Thanks!

The problem is they compare crappy IF diets with crappy non fasting diets. So how much does this really tell us? Anything that restricts the amount of garbage you shove in your mouth probably has a measurable positive effect.
