It’s really sad to see how they declined over time. I saw them like two years ago and again about a year and a half ago, definitely was nothing like this. They’re still OGs in deathcore though and they got me into the core scene so mad respect

His voice changed as he aged, our voices aren't ment to be brutal. He was 16 when he started Chelsea Grin... He's 21 now.

he did wear down his vocals but he has them back If you watch welcome to Jurassic park by Chelsea Grin first LOL but those vocals he had on that video he practice those and perfect those crappy vocals to something fucking sick boom My Damnation vocals and its just practice and practice his Evolve highs are the same of the EP and DoE but he pronounces his words more in evolve and puts more power behind them On some live performances today he does the old style for old songs man Alex is sick.

Sean Hornyak it was a scene music thing back in the days bands didn't wear shoes in small venues (you'd think it's a joke but asking Alexandria did the same back then, and I've been seeing it with attack attack as well)

forgive me for the dumb question but were his inhales loud live or did he do a special mic technique or something? i just can't believe you can actually hear the inhales with the highs live, he did a really good job with that.

+John Barrera-Garza For the early stages of Chelsea Grin, Alex mainly used Inhales for his lows and exhales for his highs. So, you can imagine overtime he was able to project a louder sound. But, you can also see that he is using a technique known as 'cupping' which is when you cup your hands around the head of the microphone so the sound doesn't have anywhere else to travel other than to the microphone. This is usually frowned upon by a lot of people as it doesn't give the highest quality of sound.

He is doing exhales here as this is after DOE was recorded which had 90% exhaled lows minus the squeals here and there.

@Pyromanen93 well what technique is it then? because it's either edited or an inhale, you don't get those sorts of rolls in the throat with exhales unless you use fry screaming, but if he was he'd have much more volume than what he does. notice the lows are so much quieter than the highs? it's because it's an inhale. either that, or a really really weak exhale. and i do know what i'm talking about, i've been a frontman for the past three years for two bands, a deathcore one and a metalcore one.

Alex can still do his old vocals... In my opinion his vocals get better in every album. Some heavy shit is coming out on the new full length If you have a Vine follow Jacob and Jason they have some teasers.

@TehJizzCakes I've seen footage with him in studio. When he does his lows, even a dumb person could tell he is doing exhale. inhale growls just dont sound like that, He is just not letting out so much air.

@Pyromanen93 Listen to the recording of it. They are obviously inhales on the lows. You can hear his fries in the highs, but they are not present in the lows. Like the grumbling is gone. YOu can hear him inhaling. Make a video of you doing your "lows" He's doing inhales. And its not a bad thing. He sounds good. So get with it bud.

@UpInTheAirOfficial well actually, inhale screaming is just as hard to do as exhale, IF you can do it right, any fucking poser kid can inhale, Alex here does it professionally, his highs are exhale actually, and his lows or inhale, its actually very common to see that with deathcore music (this is coming from a vocalist)
