The reason the elders still use it is because they have heard that term being used on them their entire life's.. The younger generation no longer want to be called something we are not.. We are not from the Indus river..that's for the beautiful Indian civilizations in India.. We have our own tribal names and meanings.. If you want to group us together then just call us natives of the land

“Welcome to me”! My jaw dropped as I learn, mega genocide of indigenous Native Americans, and their population in Continents of America 500 yrs ago was around 15 millions, while European population in Europe was around 25 millions. Today, Native Americans population is 15 million, while European population, in Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering 'ONE BILLION'! A sad truth. I agree, about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return to rightful owners indigenous Native American people. Notorious global cardinal crimes the West has committed, and benefited a great deals, such as Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why is notorious Colonization still lingering on? A website with 2 million views says it all at, blog.chinadaily.com.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=820652

I never realized how lucky I was until I moved off the reservation when I married my husband. I am Quileute, a branch of the inuits in the far corner of WA state. I would suggest the rest of my brothers and sisters go around the US too! I love going to different reservations now in Alabama and Florida. But the true testimony of our broad cultures is evident in every tribe, that is that we miss home and always have to go home. I recognized that just like our close relatives the Makah, every native nation feels that we belong to this earth...the earth does not belong to us. You begin to miss it, and talk to it like it's our cousins. It's an amazing feeling. Even more strange is my father was French, I spent a fairly equal amount of time between the 2 countries, but I do not miss France. I do not miss the people. It's not home. Truly, that fact is an obvious genetic link to my people. ❤

Problem is many get confused because Native Americans at times do call themselves indians. Look at the Indian child welfare act, it's a law to keep native american children within their bloodline or tribe made by native americans tribal members.

In South America there is a lot native Americans as well. People call them indigenous people, they have their own language and culture. What is different about north America and south America is that, in South American European people had children with natives and a new "race" was created called "mestizos." I am a "mestizo." But I also called a "latina" by Caucasians. I speak Spanish and English but also I understand Quechua which one of the many native language in South America.

There's no way of knowing if the people in this video were 100%, full-blooded Native-American. Go ahead and read the research on this topic. There's really no debate that more often than not those who earnestly believe themselves to be 100% Native aren't. 2-11% Caucasian is very common to see whenever these people take DNA tests, and you'll also find that most under the age of 35 who live on Reservations are between 40- 75% Native American, not that they aren't aware of that of course. There really is shockingly less full-blooded Natives from the lower 48 States than people realize.

Wow, rude right away ... "I'd say welcome to you but I'm on your territory, so I'll say welcome to me." Seems like someone tried to explain to her about being respectful in whichever Indigenous Nation's territory she's in and acknowledging it and thanking the People for welcoming her but it either went over her head or she doesn't agree with it. No matter where you go in what you call the "americas" you are on Indigenous Homeland or territory and should ask the Indigenous People if you are welcome and if you ARE welcomed with open arms you should be thankful respectful. But that's the opposite of colonization and the resounding LACK OF RESPECT that goes with it. Also, the deliberate dramatic editing over using "Blackfoot" was unfair, rude and ridiculous. She should the woman explain... which was probably something like "this is how you us and you cannot pronounce our name."

I'm 22 and lived my first 14 years on the Osage Reservation in the State of Oklahoma. However, I'm half Choctaw Indian, not Osage, and can speak my native tongue. According to our Nation's government, there's less than 450 Choctaws under the age of 35 who can speak their native language. The overwhelming majority of us Indians, or Native Americans I should say don't live on reservations and aren't connected with our ancestral culture unfortunately. I've also long been an admirer of Maori and broader Polynesian culture. I even played rugby in High School and I've quite literally watched every All Blacks match online since the 2011 World Cup!

Ole Okie Watson ahaha that is so cool! It’s quite sad though that less then 450 people can speak their native language. We don’t have it as bad, my sister used to speak fluent Maori but then went to an English school and lost her speaking habits although we still use everyday words sometimes . I’m slowly learning how to speak because I feel it is so important to keep our language alive. Right now there is only one maori speaking school in New Zealand and is set to close down but one girl is staying there to try and keep it alive which I think is awesome

How many full-blooded Maori are left do you think? Similar to us, I understand that Europeans and Maori have intermarried for a long time so even those with some of the strongest ties to Maori culture are often partially European, perhaps unbeknownst to them. I first learned about the current state of the Maori people from reading about the history of the All Blacks as I originally thought the Polynesian looking players were Maori, until I discovered most were Samoan, or a combination of both. I really envy you guys in NZ. Maori culture seems so ingrained and celebrated across NZ, I wish it were that way here. Now, funny enough, I replied to one of TJ Perenara's tweets (I hope you know who he is) a long time ago which had something to do with Maori ancestry in NZ, and I asked how many full-blooded Maori there are left to which he surprisingly replied that he doesn't know any. Who knows if he's right or wrong but Google fails to provide any consensus objective answer to this question. Not that it really matters all that much as culture is what's truly important.
@kowhaitemoananui3814

Ole Okie Watson I myself don’t know any full blooded Maori. I live in the South Island of New Zealand and have moved to different towns a lot and I feel like the South Island is way less cultured then the north island since I was born in the north. My mum says that she knows maybe a couple of people but most are passed away. In the South Island (or where I live) it isn’t really that cool to do kapa Haka which is our traditional war dance you probably know😂 I still do it though. But it is still really big in some places but it is really big in the north island. But we dont have it bad at all if you look at America and I just love the culture there and how similar it is to ours is crazy. We still try to incorporate it because most of the towns in New Zealand are Maori names but nobody can say it right and you get laughed at for saying it right it annoys me😂

This is one of the reasons I love native americans so much, they are spiritual, have understanding of nature & animals, and therefore give utmost respect to them. When the europeans took over America, they raped the land and slaughtered the people to whom that land belonged to. They had no respect for animals either, hence they started to imprison, cruelly exploit, torture and slaughter them by masses - and it all continues today. I myself am vegan, and would never kill an animal, unless my survival depended on it.

@veek.6463

It's true. I tried to stop eating meat when we 4-5 years old but my folks wouldn't let me. I had a pet calf on a farm I visited and would play with him on a leash. One day I saw his leash and collar in the yard but no calf. I walked in the big kitchen and there he was all opened up being processed. I haven't had a bite of meat since then. I swore I would die before eating another bite so my folks let me go vegetarian. I then went vegan at 16. I then became a serious athlete and everyone said I wouldn't be able to train on a vegan diet. After 20 years and hundreds of races won, two gold medals and numerous year end awards and two records, I proved them all wrong. Am retired now and still look 25. Don't have a gray hair. Don't eat meat. It's brutal. It's terrible sad. Now I rescue slaughter bound animals like rabbits, goats and sheep, a cow and horses. We have a farm and keep some for pets and rehome others. I think a lot of my good fortune in life came as a reward for not eating animals. I think a lot of merit is gained in not eating others bodies. One minute with an animal, no one could eat that animal unless they simply don't care and have no ability to feel empathy.

Nah, if more people weren't vegetarians back in the day, then why would it be different now? The only reason why a lot of people are squeamish towards meat/killing animals is because we've gotten used to not hunting for own food. Like, especially in America, we don't see our meat before it's chopped up and seasoned. Go to other countries, and people are fine with killing a chicken or with going to the market and seeing butchered meat. Like, I respect being vegetarian, but stop trying to act like you're on a moral high ground just because you don't eat meat. You're no better than anyone else just because you don't eat meat, in fact, some vegan/vegetarian trends actually do more harm/are harming the environment.
@island-life
@island-life 6 жыл бұрын
"if more people weren't vegetarians back in the day, then why would it be different now?" People weren't having children in the hospital back in the day too. Should we all still be having children under a rock because that is what our ancestors did? In a time where the most cause of death is cancer and obesity. You really have to ask yourself if you're doing good for yourself. I don't think people will have a heart attack if they eat strawberries or apples everyday. But you can have a heart attack by eating greasy full of fat burgers everyday.

4:10 Cringeworthy. Chelsea, was that a sneer? What was the reaction of the lip curl about? You were honored to have been allowed to participate in the ceremonies. Despite your hardened persona you portray on television, I have always felt you are a highly sensitive person. Although I am also Native American (Navajo, Apache, & Cherokee paternal side), I am city born & bred. The reservation peoples are different, as are the diverse tribal cultures. Despite having the full phenotype of my ancestors, sadly, I've never experienced more animosity than from certain rez residents. I am most appreciative of your showcasing of our indigenous First Nations, and I echo others sentiments of doing more of these. Weird how some of the dominant culture have idealized the Noble Indian. It is a myth. I went through being hated and kicked out of places for being NA. I also used to live in a popular tourist town where I was treated like I was an exhibit, with visitors taking photographs of me without permission. I felt like a zoo animal. Suitors saw me as exotic. Trust me, I understand the guardedness. Thank you.

I was a kid visiting them for vacations 3 months and living in the city at the coast, so when I was with my grandparents in the farm and crops working or helping them, there was in my mind to expect lunch or dinner with meals like in the city but there was always soup of vegetables, peruvian organic potatoes with fresh cheese or dry beef (called charqui) stew with vegetables, etc and my mind was asking for chicken, guinea pigs (cuy), lamb, beef on the grill or bolognesa pasta or fried chicken all the time until I said to my grandma when are u going to kill that chicken or lamb or get beef I see in your farm to make "real" food?? Then my grandma said that those animals are always giving food but also fertilizer for crops, milk, eggs, cheese and so many things that we do not need to kill everyday as we have fresh vegetables like corn, potatoes, faba beans, quinoa, chili, carrots to have good meal on the table but I'm sorry if u are not feeling happy with it so I will make u an special meal for you. Then she went to the backyard and got a big guinea pig and after checking or praying with it, she punched on the back of the guinea pig head and done. My grandma made a grilled guinea pig with roasted potatoes and vegies, it was delicious and i told to my grandparents that im happy to be with them and I learned how important is to respect everything and be humble with all what we already have to be happy making special any moment even if we are so far from the city or "industrial civilization"
