The idea of a short story/animation where a pawn must try to reach the end of the board and all his friends fall around him/sacrifice themselves for the goal would be pretty cool. Especially when it would have this type/quality of animation

I love how creative this got with interpretations, like the Knight literally jumping over other pieces, the pawns lining up diagonally before they attacked one another, or the Rook "castling" the King. Even just the fact we see the white side move first. Actually genius

@fernando3061 I mean, it might be true. There isn't a single diagonal grid in this video, save for the shot that seems to use a 3D rotating texture for the floor

@@fernando3061 It's no bs, the diagonal grids are harder to draw because the grids are also used as a perspective guide. So if it was diagonal grid then the animator is kinda force to turn the frames with the bishops into 2 point perspectives, which is a lot harder to do.

The order in which the pieces move and the still shot at the end show a technique called the "intercontinental ballistic missile gambit", in which the white gradually clears the board in order to "shoot" the queen straight across the board to threaten the black king.

I don't know why I've never imagined a pawn as a slick but potentially unwilling fighter forced to the front lines, but that gave them so much character so quickly that I don't think I'll ever be able to go back lol
