Its like Holmes's 2 bishops are John & Marry, while his last rook was the detective. Brilliant writing!

Moriarty’s mistake was capturing Holmes queen. Gosh sake man, He’s Sherlock Holmes, didn’t you think for 1 second that it’s obviously a trap ?? He took the bait, “and incidentally, mate”.

What I find most fascinating isn't the Queen sacrifice, but the fact that Holmes had mate in 1 after Bh3 and didn't deliver it immediately, Instead taking advantage of his opponent's hubris. When the Queen went to b3, he moved his King to h8 instead of f8 because if the Queen had been moved to the eitht rank it would've been Mate for White. Holmes even sacrificed a Rook to leave his King completely defenseless. The Rook trade was a stunning "last opportunity of redemption", because after the pawn moved the checkmate threat was no longer certain. If the Queen decided to help the King out instead of pursuing the Black King, it would've been an easy victory. And while Moriarty was playing selfishly, only thinking of the sudden victory he would encouter in a couple moves, he failed to ask himself if he was in any real danger. After Qb7 he was so close to victory he could already taste it. Bf1#. Moriarty didn't just get outplayed, he got outright demolished. Who's to blame for it? No one but himself. Amazing.

There wasn't a mate in 1 after Bh3. This was a Petrosian Larsen game from the past. Beautiful game.

There was no mate in 1 because the rook was moved to f4 to block as soon as the bishop moves for the discovery

In the movie also, Moriarty's fatal blunder was to kill Ms. Adler and expressing it before Holmes openly...

Vera Level na. Such a popular game chess is that it is even played in movies. Interesting selection and a nice and intuitive queen sacrifice. Thanks for choosing this game!

Moriarty shouldn't have moved rook to f4, instead he could have moved queen to b3 check and after king's moving to h8, rock to f8, mate.

@@elpreciososi1735 i mean the right after Sherlock takes moriarty's bishop with his bishop. Then queen moves, even queen is blocked with bishop, moriarty's rook can checkmate.
