Usually the worst thing about geniuses in general is that a huge part of them lack the ability to successfully convey their thought process (information) to others with words. In the case with Magnus however it's absolutely amazing. Calm, humorous, arrogant and yet objective comments during all his games. It's just perfect. I doubt the chess community has ever had such a close and intimate relationship to a current World Champion. And to be honest his case is the exception, not the rule, as I pointed out in the beginning... So yeah... Enjoy while it lasts.

Hmmm...I don't think Magnus is arrogant. i think he just tells it like it is , and maybe SOUNDS arrogant . I could be wrong of course .

Arrogant? That word means having an exaggerated sense of one's own abilities. And to exaggerate something is to represent it as better than it really is. Has Magnus ever made such a representation? For him, to be justly called "arrogant" he would have to have claimed to be on a par with any TCEC top engine, or make some other such outlandish claim. Even if he were to state that, compared to himself, the vast majority of chess players is woefully weak, that might be regarded as insensitive, but it's not arrogance.

He's definitely not arrogant. He's just not humble in way that Karpov or Anand might be. But yes. I am in complete agreement with you. Kramnik or anyone else would just give out three moves and go "Black is better". But M. Carlsen's ability to deconstruct his train of thought and dumb it down for a not-as-specialized audience is what sells this series.

Pinchfire Kasparov was pretty good at explaining himself, and I would consider Kasparov a genius according to IQ estamates of 185-190. I especially like how Kasparov described an attack with how many attacking pieces he had vs how many defending pieces his opponent had, it’s a simple explanation that can explain away 30 different lines of tactical analysis

The sheer strength of every move shows with Magnus.When the opponent plays a closed game like this he just waits for an inaccuracy then punishes you .I like his honesty and the way he tells the game in his mind .We are lucky to have a great world champ sharing this

I really love these short clip videos popping up in my feed. It is transformative for chess for the world to get an up close and personal view of a world champion playing recreationally. I also believe that the large participation in online chess by Magnus the past 4 years has strengthened his overall play, even in classical. It’s a huge edge to know that you can play a classical match to a draw when you are undefeatable in Rapid tiebreaks.

Most of them have one chance to play the world champion. Using this chance by playing like a coward in the opening is not something I would like to remember for the rest of my chess career. Besides I don‘t think it helps their winning chances to avoid complications. In a strictly positional game, Magnus is even more dominating (as shown in this video).

I saw all the Carlsen Banter thing. A thought. The most challenging positional game was against Sandro Mareco. Where Magnus reproduced the first rapid versus Caruana for the world title and It become even more interesting despite the 5 minute format. I hope you upload it soon. Regards

Magnus' dark bishop got to sit on B4 for free, undefended, yet disabling the white knight. That was calculated so well. It's a joy to watch + hear him play out loud.

I have not heard any other GM talk as he plays in a manner that enhances the pleasure of the experience the way that Magnus does. If you ask me to articulate the reasons for this I am incapable of doing this. I find myself binge watching this genius who makes it so much fun.

Basically, if your pawn is on the same rank as the pawn next to it (like A4 and B4), then you can take and land behind it. "En Passant" I believe it means something like "Passing By"

Of course, I'm awestruck by his chess, but what's equally surprising is his unquestionable fluency in the English language. I've heard him use colloquialisms and slang. I mean, most world renowned chess players speak functional English, but you can see that they're still not that comfortable. Without the accent, I would never be able to tell that English was a second language for Carlsen. Great vocabulary. Great pronunciation. Not too formal. Makes me wanna take up a second language.

It's called an en passant (meaning "in passing"). The basic idea is that the turn immediately after your opponent moves their pawn forward two spaces, you may capture with your pawn as is if they had only moved one space.

2:06, that Queen E7 move, followed by Bishop D7, followed by Pawn A5, would look like wasted moves by a 1000 rank player like me, lol. Little did we all know: 1. He wants to connect the rooks at the back rank 2. He wants to prevent his Q being stuck at A8. Little did we know, white's queen DID go to the corner (A1). In the end game Magnus' queen was so dominant for these reasons. 3. His queen never left the E file guarding the E5 pawn. 4. 4:55 ... Great thought process ... a lesson learned. That black knight and black bishop aren't doing anything, and Magnus just let his opponent self-destruct. 5. 5:26 That D file Rook is so nicely placed. Now I understood why Magnus didn't like white's E1 Rook move early in the game. 6: 5:35 ... To the naked eyes, the material is the same. All pieces on their side of the board, but Magnus already knows he's so much better positionally. He really sat back and let White self destruct in the middle game and then took over in the end.

No reason. He missed it. It's the best move in that situation (according to chess.com engine). Game continues Ke7, c4 etc.
