11:11 black can push the pawn to c2, if the queen takes it he can take on b4 with the knight. Of course, white can just move the queen to c1, but still, it's worth trying I think.

Dear Ben, I got a question about the 'en passant' rule. In the Kokarev-Al Omary Game, could not have Al-Omary taken the B2 pond as it moved to B4 en passant? Was he unable to do so because he had just taken the pond on C3?

Correct. If your pawn's on C3 and you try to capture en passant your opponent gets mad and calls the director. Then you lose. Unless you're Magnus. Then you capture your opponents king and lose, but the director goes back in time to fix it because it's illegal for the World Champion to lose ever.

Someone please explain why at 12:57 black doesn’t take B2 en passant with the pawn, forking king and rook?
@j.alex.manley
@j.alex.manley 5 жыл бұрын
Because that isn't how en passant works. Black's pawn has advanced one rank too far to make an en passant capture.

Someone explain why black resigned (game 1, between 11-12:30 timestamp)? That makes no sense. Pawn b4, pawn taked en passent and checks the king and wins the free rook and promotes... What am i missing?
@bakingbaker
@bakingbaker 4 жыл бұрын
Black can only capture en passent when a black pawn is on the 4th rank. The black pawn was on the 3rd rank, so en passent is nit an option.

12:38 Why the heck can't black just en peasant the pawn and attack the rook with check, then after queen defends take rook with check and trade queens, being up a queen? Edit: Answer= en peasant is for pawns on the fourth rank not third. But still just sac the knight for the two pawns and the defense of your forward pawn with a possible discovered check. Also with knight follow up on the c5 pawn after the trade the position isn't completely over, black gains some tempo and possibly an even trade if he leaves the pawn undefended
@Fishbro
@Fishbro 5 жыл бұрын
@Ivo Yaglichev no the resulting position results in being a pawn down as you trade a piece for the 2 pawns + the third pawn you're gonna lose.

That's not how en passant works, although when I am tired a mistake like this can happen to me, in fact a couple of days ago I resigned in a position where I was slightly better but I had only one move which doesn't lose. I thought that that move was bad because of en passant so I resigned. Turns out my opponent can't play en passant in that position for the same reason en passant isn't possible at 12:38 in this video. The only move was f5 and I thought my opponent would play exf7+ en passant (my opponent's pawn was on e6). It was a Sicilian dragon position.
