@@yyyy-uv3po the black king could approach the B pawn while the rook could make waiting moves behind the A pawn. If the white king stops protecting the B pawn, the black king could capture it. If the white king promotes the A pawn while protecting the B pawn, black could sacrifice the rook for the piece and if white recaptures, the black king could capture the B pawn. If the white king tries to sidestep the B pawn and push it, the black rook could capture the unprotected A pawn and pin the B pawn to the king. Even if the same mirroring could happen somehow this would have still been winning for white on A7. The black king wouldn't have been able to move onto F3 because the pawn threatens a square earlier in the chain, which gives white the time to get a queen. I actually assumed this would be the solution when you pointed out that black couldn't step their king onto G3.

Driving at only 60 miles per hour, a car would never reach outer space because that is below Earth's escape velocity (7 miles per second).
@danielyuan9862
@danielyuan9862 10 ай бұрын
Earth's escape velocity is assuming you don't put any more energy into the car after it leaves the ground. But if a car somehow manages to maintain their 60 mph speed, then it can escape earth's gravity. Not to mention that 60 miles is definitely not far enough to consider the car to be far enough from earth to be considered to have escaped its gravity.

Though what happens if you play KB5 then A7 ? Because after RB1 you have KA6, if black goes RA1 you have KB7 which I think it's winning for white and if black goes KD6 we could just promote ?
@jjbasson
@jjbasson 5 ай бұрын
would have like a bit more about the 1. a7 Rb1+ 2. Ka5 line. It's not the same pattern of taking the opposition because after 2 ... Kc5 3. Ka6 Kc6 white has 4. a8=Q+. Instead black needs 3 ... Ra1+ and can hold from there even after the white king hides in front of its pawns with 4. Kb7. for instance black can draw by threatening to sac the rook for the a pawn and nab the b pawn with the king. but it's a variety of different looking lines compared to the rest of the puzzle.
@toriless

Well, the key is to keep the king in the same file is the key but you need the rook to restrict it as well but staying away from the pawns that can become a queen. Er, maybe G6 too, not sure, nope, to need to control H1/H2, or G1 and are in the wrong starting position. ...

Q vs R is NOT the easy win everyone claims. In fact, as far back as 1984, Cray Blitz challenged then 6 Time U.S. Open Champion Walter Browne to a Q vs R endgame (Browne had the Q). After 50 moves, Browne had to take the draw by the 50 move rule. About two weeks later, he was given a rematch. This time, he won on move 50. This was in Chess Life magazine, the USCF official magazine.

I actually said King to B5, and I have a hard time seeing where that isn't also a winning move. If Black mirrors your move with King to D5, then you move the pawn to A7 at that point. Black seems kind of stuck there. If they check on the B column with the rook, the King retreats to A6. Black can't continue pursuit with the Rook, and if they move King to C6 to threaten checkmate, then the A7 pawn promotes to a queen to check Black and force the King away. It seems like you get to a winning position much faster. Am I missing something?

after b5,c5,a7. black plays b1 check, if white king to a6, black king to c5. white is now forced to either promote on a8 causing a draw after rook takes queen. or white advances king to b7, where black can simply play rook to a1 and keep playing rook to a1 and a2 until white promotes causing a draw

It is generally accepted that outer space begins at 62miles, calling it the Karman Line. The Kármán line is based on the physical reality that it roughly marks the altitude where traditional aircraft can no longer effectively fly. Anything traveling above the Kármán line needs a propulsion system that doesn’t rely on lift generated by Earth’s atmosphere when the air is simply too thin that high up.
