My dad had a 1970 Chevelle that he bought from a police impound lot. It didn't have the 454, it had the 350 that was stolen out of a racecar, It was Stupid fast! The engine would rev to 6k and pulled hard the full range of rpm's! It was a dark metal flake red and had black leather bucket seats and was like a new car back in the last 80s still. Sadly he traded it to a guy for a camper and it was stripped down and made into a drag car. If we had kept it in perfect shape, it would be well over a 100,000$ car today! I still remember the chime it made when the key was put in!

Those late 60s and early 70s Gen 2 Chevelles are freaking beautiful cars.

I remember when I first fell in love with this car. I was 7yo and I got some Hot Wheels as a gift. Among the 5 cars box, there it was: a lemon-yellow Chevy with black fire vinyl. I didn't take much care back then, so I got older and found a new one: pure gloss black with gloss red fire vinyl. I knew I wanted that piece, and I just wish I could have one of these on my garage.

Before slagging my dad for protecting his son, he helped me buy a 1982 Toyota Celica Supra which made me a Supra fanatic. My dream car is still that 66 Chevelle SS 396 L78, and a 1993 Supra 2JZ-GTE, a car I was going to buy new, but got married instead, is #2 on the bucket list

When I was in high school, damn near every other kid in school had a Chevelle of one type or another. There were five, yes FIVE, on my short little street. And I didn't have a single one of them. Damn near all of them were 68-71 types, with the bulk being SS 396 and a lone ex-Navy-SEAL down the street rocking a blown LS6 454. With all that, one of my best friends had a '73 Laguna with a 400ci small-block - all blacked-out, just like everything else he owned. First time I ever rode in that car, he took it over 120mph down a back road with me and a buddy in the back seat, blasting Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog". I couldn't find a seat-belt, so I was damn near making skid-marks of my own while sitting back there. Our mutual friend had a '67 Chevelle with a really, really hot 327. That thing must've come out of a race car, as it was different from any other 327 I'd ever seen before or since. Unfortunately, that car tended to blow rear-ends and strip gears - it was just too strong a motor for the rest of the car to handle it. While I've always been a MOPAR (MO POWAH BABY) guy, I still have a soft spot for those Chevelles - even the later, unloved ones.

In 1971 they did use the LS6 in the Corvette although they reduce the compression and was rated at 425 horsepower. James brought up the fact Road Runner was competing with the Chevelle as the fastest cars but he still need to do an episode for Road Runners which is one of my favorites.

It’s crazy how huge motors were back in the 60’s. I have a 69 Cadillac deville and it has a 472 big block v8 with a Rochester 4 barrel carb. It was rated 375 hp and 500 ft lbs tq. The 70 caddies had the big ole 500 making 400hp 525 tq 500 cubic inches!! That’s monstrous!

My first car, in 1976, was going to be a used '72 Vega ( *80Hp ) ...but , one day, as I was gassing up my Honda SL100 motorcycle , I spied a 'For Sale' sign (* for $500 ) on a 1966 Chevelle Malibu with a 283 V8 , bolted to a 2 speed power glide trans... and the guy working at that Chevron that day ( who owned the Chevelle ) , fell for my Honda...he asked to take it for a test ride, and when he came back with it a few minutes later, he was grinning ear to ear...I still, to this day, don't know how I was able to trade ( * straight across trade, no money changed hands ) that tiny little motorcycle for that big a** , 220Hp Chevelle...but , by some miracle , I did....and the rest, as they say...is history.... ( * that next Saturday when the deal commenced was the greatest day of my life up until then )

When I was about 9-11 years old my dad bought me my first ever model car. It was a 72 Chevelle SS 454. I'm almost 33 now and the Chevelle is still my all time favorite car ever and is my ultimate dream car. Though now I would like a 69 Chevelle instead. The true king of the muscle cars.
