One of the things I love about Nicks Garage is the careful and systematic approach to engine issues. It is easy to jump to conclusions but with attention to detail and modern video technology, the problem of an overly lean mixture at top end was uncovered. Sometimes it's like a 'who done it' novel where the culprit is found and brought to justice. It's great we can still see Nick at work during the pandemic.

I have a 97 Tahoe that has been beaten to smithereens and the engine continues to run perfection. The only exception is the transmission being the 4L60e, I have two options. Either I replace a number of internal components with upgrades including the Sonnax sun shell (thinking about stepping up on torque but I am currently browsing a list of clutch rings that I might consider using), or just do the easy thing and replace the transmission all together. It also reminds me that I need to start replacing U-joints along the drive train. In fact I was just checking them the other day and they are completely worn out. The Tahoe, after I've driven it for 12 years is finally getting attention it needs. As for the engine, I am contemplating on upgrading the air intake, filter, all of that fun stuff. It's just something I have to take my time on piece by piece.

I see blue small block chevy's every day. Chevy truck engines were painted blue from the mid 60s to the early 80s, and before that many were painted either blue or green. Orange was actually a rare engine color for chevys, only used on V8s in cars from 55 until the early 80s when they started painting all engines black. But everyone loves that chevy orange color, so everybody paints every chevy engine orange when they rebuild them.
