This week we save you money! Swapping in a new valve to replace the original dual fuel tank valve in my 1986 Chevrolet C10 Squarebody!
I take you through what the truck was doing, what I have replaced so far and then the final fix! It's just me this week so you will be missing Dad!

My 87 is not reading the fuel gauge I can have half a tank and it will only read a quarter tank Thinking this might be the problem

@@julianshernandez-jz9tf could be! Might be a bad or stuck sending unit in the tank too!

I have two tanks and when I flip the switch the needle on the gas gauge doesn't move

@@henrylopez8039 that sounds like the switch could be bad. I can't say for sure but possibly!

Good information the part is still like 90 bucks so that's not half unless you got a used one . Either way still good information

Could it be possible that this valve can restrict the flow of gasoline? I installed an electric fuel pump because of the vapor locking issue. Its seems like it is starving on fuel. It cuts off and will start right back up. New fuel lines, rebuilt carb., complete new distributor, The problem started right after I installed the electric fuel pump. I tried 3 different electric fuel pumps with the same result. I just installed a 5-9 psi pump thinking the 2.5-4 psi wasn't enough psi, it did help but it still dies out as if though not enough fuel. The pump is mounted on the frame under the passenger door.

@@Beast2011ps I can't say for sure because it have not done it. But there are fuel filters between the tanks and this valve. Those could be blocked. Or it is possible that the filters are old and have let pieces get into this valve. Go over to the community tab on our channel and you will see a diagram that shows the filters. Just a guess to be honest!

That really small line where there is the 2 ports. Can that just be plugged or is that connected to vacuum

Can you do a more specific video how to connect to sending unit? What lines goes where? I have a big ten and dual tanks and need some help

@@IceTown23 I would love to do that but unfortunately mine already had the plug that was needed to just plug directly back into this valve. So I didn't have to do any of the wiring for the sending units. BUT I do have a diagram for the wires and hoses that I will post over on the community part of our page so you have it!

@@shift_points while I have the wire connection but I’m trying to see where the hose go from sending unit. In your video you didn’t show sending unit just connected

@@IceTown23 Yes that's true. I didn't go all the way to the sending unit. Just replaced the rubber hoses that came from the hardlines mounted on the frame to the valve. I took pictures of how it was connected before I took it apart and then just put it all back onto the same lines.

just removed my valve on my 1980 c-10 and it only has one terminal, not the multi pin connection on yours and on the replacement part.. anybody know anything about this one?

I saw something about this. I believe I saw there is a pigtail you can buy to replace the connection you have with the multi pin. I think it was a design change that was made in later years.

@shift_points thanks so much for the quick response! also, did you drain your tanks before removing? I didn't, i just pinched off the lines as i removed them but then when i removed the vice grip, no gas came out of my lines from either tank.. shouldnt it have flowed out?

@@carlsny1023 no I didn't drain mine. Since the fuel pump isn't pumping it should just drain the lines.

How'd you get the two bolts holding the fuel selector valve off I'm having trouble getting to those lol

It helps if you are a contortionist 😂😂 I had to use a racket wrench and get it on then basically turn it a few teeth at a time. Once you get them loose I was able to thread them out by hand. Not easy though for sure!

Ive got a 91 R3500 squarebody dually with a 502/4l80e but it died on me soon as i took it home and then it died completely that weekend after i got the paperwork switched to my name. 1 tank it will turn over but not start and the right tank it will fire but not stay running for mor than a couple seconds and if i pump the gas it kills it. Im thinking fuel pump or sending units but now thinking it may be that valve partially because i noticed the gauge did the same thing! It buried itself after i switched it a few times.

That sure sounds like a combo of things for sure! When mine had given up it would run the fuel out of the lines and that's all it would go but it wouldn't shut off for about 5 miles. So sounds like the valve and like you said maybe a fuel pump.

@shift_points that's what I was thinking. It's at the shop waiting on them to figure it out. I don't have the tools or place to work on it where I live unfortunately.

My dually square gave me fits shortly after I bought it. Both tanks were feeding rusty fuel and clogging up filters.

3/8" for the primary side and 5/16" for the secondary side.

@@shift_points Thanks I never used the drivers LH tank.I was told it was disconnected..perhaps is the valve .will check
