I've got a 2019 ZR2 Duramax. I put a retrax mx pro tonneau cover on with a 12" RCI bed rack with the tonneau bed rack compatibility mounts. The system worked much better than I expect and fitment was darn near perfect. I was also able to "carefully" drill into the bed rails and bolt the bed rack to the truck for extra stability. I wanted a metal retractable locking tonneau cover for the weather/bear proofing but also because I wanted to also leave a bunch of expensive gear in the back knowing it would be extremely difficult to break into. I lose a little bit of volume and depth in the bed but I also have the ability to put stuff on top of the tonneau cover and strap it down still. I went with the Thule ruggedized kukenam 3 tent and find it very simple to setup and take down. Got the tent 20% off from REI with first time membership discount. Got the annex "used" for $160 on amazon, in perfect condition. I also put the Valhalla off road research steel molle panels inside the bed to mount my mini shovels, hatchet, Co2 tank, diesel and water rotopax and a fire extinguisher. Mounting all the gear keeps the bed clear and stops the tanks from bouncing around in the bed while going fast off road. I can still fit a 40" long x 20" high cooler in the bed and still have room for any extra gear thanks to the Valhalla panels utilizing the space above and round the wheel wells became more appreciate after I had done it. I spent a lot of time planning out the mounting options but afterwards everything I had fit perfectly. I should make a video tbh...

My next plan is to put a prinsu rack onto of the cab just for the added deflection because the tent sits about 5" above the cab. Upgrading the sliders to ones with a step can also help sometimes with setting up and putting away the tent in my experience. It also gets hand for keeping muddy boots outside of the cab when reaching up to get stuff off of the roof rack. Trying to find the best bang for the buck while getting the highest quality. Buy once cry once without getting kicked too hard in the wallet. Everything I've done would be easy enough to resell if I had to though, so if anyone reading this, if you can find the deals/discounts during sales for the good stuff it's unlikely that you will lose very much money if you had to part with it later on or decide to change your mind.

I have looked into putting a supercharger on my ZR2 also. I would like the additional power and like you I spend a lot of time off-roading at a high elevation. I have noticed a decent amount of power loss with the naturally aspirated engine and understand forced induction would take care of a lot of that. With that said I can do a lot of other mods for the $12k I would have to spend.
@OrrinLewis

Upgrade really are so much money. I’ve been looking at different options to put 35s on my 2018 ZR2 Duramax. But like you said, with the re-gearing and everything it’s easily over $5000 plus another $2500 for wheel and tire. But I think a solid front bumper with a winch would be a better upgrade but that’s still another $3000+. But I’m also really interested in the snorkel for intake protection and I also really like the skid plates AEV made for the bison. Again, $$$$$. Lol so many upgrades, so little money. Also like you said, if I just made more money hahaha. Your truck looks really good. I was looking at the rooftop tent, but went with a 25’ trailer instead. I freaking love the trailer, super nice to use as a base camp for off road adventures and the truck does pretty well with it. Good luck

@MountainHobbler
@MountainHobbler 2 жыл бұрын
Haha my man you and I have been shopping for the same things. At this point I have decided to just save up my money and slowly upgrade when I can. It's hard but I have adopted the "Buy once, cry once" attitude. I've done the shock skids, rear diff skid plate, and upgraded the headlights. Next is either winch and front bumper or rear bumper with swingout so I can get the spare tire out from the bottom.

I just got the regular rear bumper because I didn’t want to spend the extra money at the time for the carrier. Big Mistake!! You can’t add it later. I should have got it now the spare is in the bed. Your truck is looking good. If your going to keep 35s I would go with the 4.10 gears. If you look at the AEV factory trucks they are geared to 4.10 for 35s. Im in the process of doing the same thing. I think AEV put a lot of time and research into choosing the right gears for their trucks. Good luck...

I just checked the Victory4x4 bumper is capable of adding the swing arm for a tire and another for water/fuel cans. It shows it on the site. It is designed specifically for the Tacoma, but many mods for the Tacoma can fit the Colorado. As far as the Bison bumper for the Colorado I’m not sure if you can put a swing arm on it. Yes it only has the stock 2in lift. You have to do a bunch of cutting to get the 35s to fit. The AEV fenders come with instructions on where to cut. You take the old fenders off, do the cutting and then put the new fenders on. I did put a leveling kit in the front though

@@OrrinLewis Well, it might just be a regional thing..but the ZR2 does require a different bracket than all the other sub-models of the Colorado do. The issue, I think, is that I travel around a lot.
