Here is what I learned. You are a great mechanic. No one knows everything and you learned on this job for the next time. Also, you shared that info with the world instead of pretending like you know everything so you helped out us as well. Mistakes or a slight lack of knowledge are nothing to be upset about. You just learn from it and keep on marching forward. You also offer customers great advice (whether they take it or not) instead of not advising them and letting other stuff go wrong to get another job. An Honest mechanic creates lifetime customers. Another outstanding car video. Now, you and Eric O need to hook up and do a project. That would be epic :-) Thanks for what you do!!

I've done a lot of these. I used to work for a courier company and they had several of them. I always had fun testing them out to make sure everything is ok, they're surprisingly quick. The throttle response is instantaneous and smooth. I've thought about swapping one into my Miata

Great video explaining why the Turbo failed in the first place. The oil feed line on my Chevy Cruze LT was leaking when I first started getting the PO299 code. It was probably clogged as well, but didn't think to check since I was just replacing it. This seems to be a known problem on the part of Chevy with the design of their oil feed pipe.
@GadGetHackss
@GadGetHackss 9 ай бұрын
It can be good and bad at the same time, as it's next to the hot exhaust it heats up the oil very quickly which is good for the winter time but still bad for the oil because the constant heat wears it out very quickly as well which makes it thicker.. and this is why you need to replace the oil more frequently and not wait too long. This goes for every turbocharged vehicle..

A little advice, don't weld those cheap clamps if you can afford $25 to buy a new one. . Replace them. They are onlt $25. You don't want that clamp breaking on you later. GM service manual says throw them out. There is a reason for that. Nice job on that!!!

@@themechanic6117 I was just helping The Canadian Bubba clean a carburetor- I advised him to make an impromptu ultrasonic cleaner. Whatever container you have for the part, use a 50:50 mix of ATF + Acetone, and attach an unbalanced motor, or (best) a $25 Harbor Freight engraver to the container. Dial it in, until you see the destructive waves hitting each other, like little hammers. Ultrasonic vibrations are key to cleaning. Throw in an aquarium heater- hot solutions work even better. An actual heated unit is only $50 on Amazon, great for stuff like injectors, tubing, etc.

Hope you can help me I’m putting my new turbo in tomorrow did you oil the turbo before you put it in the new turbo had a bottle of clear oil but it was spilled during shipment someone told me you have to run oil through the feed tube before installing it
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 Жыл бұрын
I don't think that's necessary, just make sure the feed and return are clear of obstructions

Thank you for the quick reply mine was a real nightmare the bottom oil line broke off in the engine so had to sit and pick the rest of it out with a pick and it was 6 degrees out today in ohio

That sounds like it sucks, I always recommend replacing both the return and feed line. If there's any restriction in the old feed line it'll destroy the new turbo.

Yeah I am replacing all the lines and oil but still nervous that a peace of plastic fell down the return line hole

Yes change your oil BUT this is a problem With the oil tubing is to close to the turbos body and baking the oil in the tub causing a clog oil line to the turbo. The 2016 late, 2017 has a 1.9 Ĺ the turbo oil pipe Is hung out in the breeze this is what I have my problem is oil in the inter cooler and plenum to throttle body. The problem with this is oil is going in to the intake and crusting the valves , direct fuel injection.😢

Sounds like MY story as well..... bought Monday from a very SMALL dealer - and paid cash. :( When she was explaining why she doesn't offer a warranty, I asked, "Not even 30 days?" and she said I could come back if there was any problems within 30 days. THREE DAYS LATER, the engine light came on..... bottom line? She's NOT a woman of her word, and I'M screwed. HOW can they get away with this crap? The buyer isn't protected in any way if sold a car purportedly in excellent condition! The checklist indicated all things were good. NOT cool. :(

You just bought another piece of junk in the way of the oil turbo line because it's supposed to have a heat shield on it that line is not going to last that long without being plugged up either
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 2 жыл бұрын
I'll keep an eye out for updated parts. I can only do so much. The original part didn't have a heat shield and neither did the new part.
