Either a bad pump or pickup tube oring. That a lifter screaming for oil pressure. It started like that due to the lifters not pumping up. No pumped up lifters no valves opening fully or at all. Been there with 2 of my truck . 5.3 and 6.0

If i hear anything making those noises i immediately turn it off and check the oil and if theres none in it i put some in it before ever starting it again. Hes just causing more damage every second he lets it run and thats not cool

I would say bad Oil Intake O-Ring, Bad Cam bearing, or possible oil pump. Oil Pumps are not known to go bad often, but the O-ring and Cam Bearings do go bad in them. Time to diagnose which is the culprit. Those would be my 1st 3 items I would check. Also the oil pressure sending unit.

The basic rule is check at least once a week and top up as required also as the vehicle ages you can go to a higher rated oil so you can go from 5w 30 to 40

Dont think an oil and filter change is going to help that one,salvage yards and engine rebuilders love vehicle owners like that one!

i hate seeing a brethren 5.3 give up the ghost like that. and i know from first hand experience the message center will tell you to check your oil level when you get 2 quarts down.

People just refuse to change their oil at intervals. I've seen so many 4.8 5.3 and 6.0s with sluge for oil. Sad

The low pressure indicator will ding ding on mine if it gets that low , I'm sure the suction tube seal needs repair

My Silverado has no oil pressure on start up. But once it warms up the oil pressure is fine and the engine is quiet. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is...

I have a 2004 gmc Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 in it. I purchased it cheap from a logger and the truck was starting just like that one but mine has oil in it. I thought the battery was bad but i put a new one in and replaced the starter. Starts and runs good but once its warm youll hear the lifter tick and my oil pressure gets to 10 psi. Now ive changed the o-ring and the oil pump. Still have low oil pressure once it warms up. Now i have purchased a low mile 5.3 online lol. Guess I'll take this turd apart and see whats up

When you get cars like this you should really just shut it down and not run it with no oil....at some point that motor will seize
