Funny! I think of the button on the floor as the normal way to turn on brights, even after all these years. My Dad had an Electra 225, a couple of Olds 98s, and similar boats. They were every bit as luxurious as this Rolls. I think the Buick must have been longer, too. But of course, nothing beats a Rolls Royce. Good video.

yup, I had a vehicle with the brights as a button on the floor.. Thanks for the comment..

I get what you say about the floor brights button. Here in England we call it a dip switch - you dip and undip your headlights between low and high beam. I've used those switches a lot over 50 years of motoring. My 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is a great car to drive and is still in very good condition for nearly 50 years of age. R-R always put the finest materials into their cars. They fitted the GM400 transmission because it was the best available. As Sir Henry Royce said of his cars "The quality will remain long after the price is forgotten". He was right...

The Carpet in a Rolls is like memory foam, its so thick. We had a 77 Buick Electra and it had Power Locks - don't know why he said that "?" The Bentley is actuly the Supreme Platinum Luxury Vehicle -

My father had this car for a couple years. He let me drive it once. It was so smooth and powerful. Very much like the ‘72 Buick Riviera he had. I think the manual said that there were dual air conditioning compressors. And there was an umbrella stored in the door for the valet.

When I lived in SLC, Utah during the 1970's I had a '74, a '75, and a '76. I leased them from Master Lease, Ultra Lease and Peck & Shaw's RR, and sometimes from Ken Garff's. After that, in my mind I could never drive any other car. RIP Hugh Gardner, and Tony and Gil Hernandez.

The car was supposed to be level at all load conditions. Furthermore the name is spelled with a hyphen: Rolls-Royce. The hyphen has a special meaning, as it symbolizes Claude Johnson, who brought Henry Royce and Charles Royce together :) Your particular looks beautiful with the two-tone exterior and the red interior. But every buyer should be aware of the 15k$ this car needs for his first repairbill. Hydraulics and brakes with all the rubber, new tires, refurbished wood and leather...the price may have dropped, but maintanence not! (My 93 Bentley makes me not forget this..;) )

Head rests were required by law on all vehicles solid the US starting in 1969, but I dont know why they were so small on the RR. Power locks were also not a big deal by 77, they became available in the early 1960s on high end American cars. The passenger side mirror was not required just yet but becoming more popular by the late 70's. You checked over your shoulder when changing lanes. I love the high beam switch on the floor. I don't know why they did away with that . You could just keep your toe rested on it and switch as needed. My 1990 F-150 still has this, as does my 1978 Lincoln.

Never place the camera lower than eye-level, when shooting video, or still photography. Otherwise, the unintentional effect is that viewer's contend with the subtly unpleasant perspective of "peering up one's nostrils". And, never could there be a more subliminally defensive adversion to "hitting the Like Button". You are welcome. This valuable channel-building tip was offered entirely free of charge. 😉

Dave, any chance you can post a new video showing what it looks like under the hood or on a lift under the car, lets hear it run and maybe do a short drive. How is the tread depth, block weep holes, shocks especially the rear ones the pocket on the bottom of the rear spring. Do you have any of the books maintenance records, rear footrest, sheepskins?
@ChevyDave
@ChevyDave 6 жыл бұрын
I will try and get another video up with additional information. we do not have any books or maintenance records or the footrests with the vehicle. It was locally owned and the gentlemen had everything serviced at a local shop. We do have the vehicle pending sale as of right now but if I can I will get another video up.

There's a 1980. Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 2 for sale in my country. It costs 5990 euros to buy and I don't know if it's worth buying because there is a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 1 from 1968 and it costs 18000 euros. Silver Shadow 2 looks much better but I'm not sure if I should buy it since it's 3 times cheaper than a Silver Shadow 1 and there must be a reason for it but I don't know what that reason is. So should I buy the Silver Shadow 2 for 5990 euros?

Take it from me, get an expert to check out both cars! Cheap insurance for your bank account. Believe me, I lost my ass back in 2002 on a Shadow 2. I bought it from a shyster dealer and brother I paid a price for that.

Car did gave power locks before 1977 jaguar and rover in the uk had thesevfrom estly 1970s. Head restraint they are the continental or export market type the GB had front and rear matching this was an American compliance thing, the smaller front head restraint.. power windows aee easy to remember we do not have label today and we did not front work back Driver F, Pass F, Drivers Rear, pass Rear, that simple. They where called cigar lighters on all GB car cigarette light was an American thing.

Regarding the head rests, how fat is your head Dave that you need a wider head rest? Also you seem to think that the controls that have their function clearly marked are "cool features". Why was air conditioning so interesting? Jeez Dave. You will never work as a salesman for Rolls Royce!
@ChevyDave
@ChevyDave 5 жыл бұрын
Alan, first off do some research before you post crap on someone's channel, head rests on vehicles in the 70's were a luxury, plus in the 70's vehicles didn't have air conditioning so that was a feature that only high end cars offered. Thanks for your uneducated comment though.
