The difference your probably feeling while doing that lining test is because in steady mode . The machine will draw more power to maintain a constant hz /speed. So as you apply pressure there is no slowing down of the machine any rotary when you add resistance it will slow down slightly . Not like e give or responsive but it's just how the motor works. So in Cheyenne standard basic mode it's already applying an algorithm to make the speed stay even more constant

@adamdarklord
@adamdarklord 9 ай бұрын
Basically all adjustable stroke machines have more weight, vibration, sounds and they all brake faster. Lower stroke is definitely better for b&g shading. This Sol Nova 3.5 can do everything very very good so I don’t see the point in using a stroke adjustable machine. Sol Nova 3.5 and Acus 4.0 are both very good for doing everything. If you get the Sol Nova get the bundle pack with their new battery that just came out 🔥

Even if I’m still really slow in lining I run about 11.5 volts for 9Rl ….I hope the new SN is a little bit stronger. The 4.5 isn't too hard at all for 5 liners and up it's much easier and more efficient, but for 3s and singles definitely use the 3.5, having both to have a good range is smart bro, I used both, mostly the 3.5 for fine lines, shading and blending, and on occasion use the 4.5 for larger lines and packing straight black 🔥

The needle doesn’t stick out far enough or when you stick the needle out far it doesn’t hold ink good? The shorter the stroke length the less you can hang your needle out to get ink. Wonder if it’s your Cart brand I can hang mine out quite a bit

Thank you so much for the super thorough review! You're the best! One question that is killing me before commiting: not sure if I should go with the 3.5 or 4.5. I only do lines! No shading whatsoever. My sweetspot is 9-11RL, would this needle config be to small for the 4.5? I might go higher to like a 16RL from time to time, but most of my work would be in the 9 range. Thinking for the future I might want to do fatter lines, that's why I'm considering the 4.5. If you could just share your thoughts would help immensely. Thank you!

I’ve been tattooing professionally for 21 years and counting. Been loyal to the Coil. But now I want to try a rotary. Cheyenne is the brand I like best. This machine is good for first one? Or should I get 2 or 3? I tattoo ALL styles. Hawk Unio claims to do it all-not sure I believe that. And how’s it going so far with this machine ?
@adamdarklord
@adamdarklord 4 ай бұрын
I would not get the Unio, it’s to long and junky feeling. This one is the best especially if you want to run on a wired power supply. If you want a battery pack built into it I’d wait, Cheyenne is about to release the Unlimited 2 with a display built into it

I tried a bishop packer but was turned off by how the needle would keep going back into the machine during a tattoo. Might have something to do with the way the needle length is adjusted; it’s a smooth turn which may be affected by movement of the hand when machine is resting on it. Does this machine have a clicking solid needle depth turn adjustment or is it a smooth turning adjustment like the Bishop>?

At 27:53 you are comparing Critical Torque's line quality with Sol Nova, setting the same Volt. This unfortunately problematic. Because the Sol Nova's Volt Range is start very low. This means, it starts with only 25 Hz at 4.5 Volt, whereas the Critical torque starts most likely (not sure) with around 60 Hz. This bein said: When you tattoo at 8 V, there is a Hz difference of around 35 Hz, what is a major difference. The Sol Nova should have around 9.2 V, to be compared with the Critical Torque at 8 V.

Hey, I got a Cheyenne SOL Nova 4.5 because I thought it would be as strong as Bishop machine. It’s not. Is it normal that it just shuts off when you turn up the voltage past 12 on a power supply? I got their PU2 power supply and it only goes to 12.5 and turned all the way up is a shader at best. I need to return it if this is normal-if it’s like a killswitch once it hits 13 volts. Any advice?
@adamdarklord
@adamdarklord 3 ай бұрын
Almost no tattoo machine should go over 12v. They have 12volt motors in them and if you exceed that they may brake ore auto shut off to save the machine. The SOL Nova has the same motor as the Bishop Wand machines. The difference is the cam on the motor. Cheyennes cams are perfectly balanced and consistent so it feels smooth at all speeds. It’s a very powerful machine if you want it to feel more punchy you might want to turn it down around 7-8 volts. Running the machine over 9volts isn’t normal that’s way to fast, turning up voltage won’t make it hit harder it will only damage the skin.
@NothingNowhereNoOne
@NothingNowhereNoOne 3 ай бұрын
@@adamdarklord I lined a tattoo with a bishop at 13/13.5 volts. I line pretty fast. I got 21 years of professional tattooing under my belt. In order to get a rotary machine to line like a coil , you gotta turn it up-unless you want to line at 2 miles per hour. I was just blown away that the sol nova just shut off on me when I turned it up past 12.5 volts. That a deal breaker for me.

@adamdarklord
@adamdarklord 3 ай бұрын
@@NothingNowhereNoOne The Bishop Packer (the orange one) recommended voltage is 7-9volts Bishop says to not run the machine over 10volts. It has a 12volt motor in it so anything over 12volts isn’t doing anything but destroying your machine. I don’t know how to further help you. Possibly getting a Dan Kubin machine or a Vlad Blad Avenger 2 would be better because they have an armature bar on them that could possibly feel better for you. Once again those machines are not meant to run past 12v. 12v is NOT the speed of your tattoo machine and raising the voltage doesn’t make the machine hit harder only faster. The machine actually has less amp in higher voltages making it hit softer. Hertz is your speed. I’d find what Hertz you like to run your machine at and find a new machine that feels good at those Hertz. The Sol Nova is a monster at lining many Japanese Body Suit Artist use Cheyenne machines to do line work.

I got to watch this before anyone did. Great review but here’s the issue. For Cheyenne to put a battery in such a small compact version of the sol nova they cannot use the brushless motor they are using. That mast has a crappy cheap motor that doesn’t need a circuit board to adjust it’s parameters. As far as Cheyenne making a battery it’s been in the works since the Cheyenne pen and never released because the battery life sucked. For Cheyenne to release a product into the tattoo world it has to function like they want it to function. Cheyennes next wireless machines will be bad ass I can tell you that much!!! 😊

The Sol Nova 2 has a different motor and different software. It’s has a better more efficient motor giving it more physical power and longer battery life. The improvements are small in general. If you’re happy with the machines you’re using there’s no big reason to upgrading to any of the newer machines on the market truthfully. I find it nice having one machine that can do everything very well and the Nova 2 can without setting up a second machine
