Chi Kung or Qigong is an ancient Chinese health practice. It ranges from very gentle movement and stretching to more demanding physical activity. In this video, Richard Clear offers an introduction to his preferred Qigong methods and practices.
Everyone these days knows that stress is a killer, but how many people know practical exercises for alleviating stress? Practicing these techniques regularly helps to keep relaxation even in situations that used to be stressful. It is a method that increases awareness and activates/improves your mind.
Unlike most meditation that only delivers results when you are "tuned out," this training has lasting benefits that stay with you in your day to day life. It builds a strong but relaxed mind AND body while improving focus and awareness. This is powerful training that goes far beyond what most Qigong teachers are willing to share, and it is just the first part of our system.
There are 54 Lessons in Level 1 of Clear's Tai Chi. For the other 53 lessons (and some amazing bonuses!) visit:

Increadible teaching my brother. I am a certified Tai Chi instructor of Dr. Lam's " Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention". I am involved in an Internship program as an assistant teacher. Although I receive many compliments on my form, I have never realized until this moment that I have never "felt" anything as I do so, other than light and fluid. But you stopped me in my tracts when you asked " what did you feel?". WOW !!! MIND BLOW !!! I have always been taught (from my instructor) that when you teach you can not be "in the zone", but must be aware of your students and your surroundings. I now realize that I have been so concentrated on the finesse of my form that I have never fully relaxed to enjoy the fullness of the movements themself. Sounds like the greatest source of tension is in my mind first, which affects everything else. WOW !!! AGAIN, MIND BLOW !!! I feel foolish because this should be an elementary concept, I know others are shaking their heads thinking "da-uh !!!". But this really is an "aw-ha" moment for me. Thank you for sharing these principles and in such a way that even a novice can grasp them. I often tell my students that Tai Chi is a dance that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives and that the learning side can go as deep as they care to pursue. Each time you learn something you realize that there is something else to learn and you can pursue these depths and never exhaust their richness. I often liken it to the studies of the stars, sure you can get very in depth with your studies or if you only want to learn enough to say "hey that's the Big Dipper", that that's OK too. Not everybody is destined to reach the degree of greatness in their Tai Chi as you and others like you enjoy, but I know in my heart that you yourself feel like you have just scratched the surface, LOL !!! Looking forward to digging in deeper into your teachings, wishing you good health and long life as you continue to do the same. From a grateful heart, God bless and thank you.

I've seen so many Tai Chi Hacks on here. I like how you're legit. The softness & relaxation help so much. Especially if I pull a muscle or overwork in the gym. Focusing on that negative energy in the affected area & relaxing to the max with soft movements relieve pain. It seems miraculous, as if you're spreading it throughout the body until it's gone. Tai Chi revolves around circular movements & it really magnifies blood circulation.

Establish Yang down below the waist with heaviness and establish Yin above the waist by being air quality light. This is taught in the video above starting at the 13:20

I did this a few times and then tried for over a minute. I felt my pulse slowing and almost relaxing. When I stopped and breathed I wasn't gasping for air either. Amazing. Btw I've somehow unlocked my chi where it surges through my body, and I can feel a field around my arms and stuff, awesome shit.

Yin Yang theory can be applied to anything. And there is more than one way to separate Yin and Yang in the body. The heavy light separation is one absolutely critical skill for Tai Chi that beginners should start working on ASAP. When training Tai Chi it's important for focus on what you can feel and apply. It's easy to get caught up abstract theory and miss the practical application.

@Jehu30 Excessive weight training could be counter productive. However if you use it to practice Tai Chi principles and body mechanics and you don't overdo it then you should not have any trouble doing both.

There could be any number of reasons for this. Assuming you are doing the exercise correctly, the most likely reason is that you were holding tension in your arms or shoulders that the exercise has helped you to release. Once the tension is gone, the blood flow and energy can now move freely through your arms. Tension blocks the proper flow, and after releasing it you will notice a feeling that you are not used to.

Question. I'm in the United States Army, my job is combat and so it is the inevitable truth that one day I will have to kill. With that being said how could I attempt to do this when this seems like it brings peace to the mind, body, and spirit. How could I be one a soldier someone that has to one day take a life the opposite of peace, and be someone that practices peace of mind. It's so conflicting in my mind it hurts I don't think there is a such thing as a peaceful soldier how can I be about peace and harmony but also be against it. I love my brothers I would die for them and my country but something inside me hates what the enemy does but I don't hate the enemy but there is no peaceful solution violence is the only answer in this profession. I'm so conflicted so my question is who has wisdom that can help me how can I figure this out. Leaving the military is not an option.

Hello Iliana. That's a very good question, and a difficult one for anyone to answer. In our system we often talk about the Loyal Family Dog mentality. Think of a big family dog out on a country estate. The dog can be happy and playing with the kids one moment, but if a threat appears on the horizon the dog goes on alert. If the threat increases, so does the dog's response until it is fighting if necessary, and then when the fight is over and the threat has been neutralized the dog goes back to happy and playful. The dog does what needs to be done without hesitation or regret. In order to do this like the dog, you need two things that the dog has. One is to be present "in the moment" like the dog is. The dog is not so concerned with the future or the past, but is much more mindful of what it is doing and what is appropriate behavior right now. With time and training, this is exactly the mindset that Tai Chi cultivates (it is one of the first requirements in our Intermediate tests). Although it is difficult for most people to get at first, staying present in the moment is a skill that can be learned. Don't forget that Tai Chi is a martial art. In fact in its fullest expressions, Tai Chi would be quite horrifying to watch in a real fight. While it is a lot about peace of mind and staying relaxed under pressure, the Tai Chi fighter must not be afraid to do what is necessary. One of Yang Chen Fu's brothers was a famous Tai Chi fighter of whom it was said that every time he reached out his hand it came back bloody. In Tai Chi we seek peace, but we are not afraid to confront violence or neutralize an attack. I know that you have many more issues to grapple with, and that you are in a very difficult position. I hope that this has been of some help, and I thank you for your service.

Clear's Internal Combat Arts wow, amazing response. Tai Chi seems to be very similar to Buddhism (i.e. present self) and I am battling parathyroid disease which makes me feel like a complete bum. Watching your videos and carefully observing your techniques and reality helps my calm down and loosen my grip on partial feelings such as anger or jealously. Tai Chi is interesting.
