Remember to turn the hood to the grinding mode when not in use, That turns off the hood saving the battery's. They don't tell you that at the store.

Delay is not the time it takes to darken, it is the time it takes to come back to light state after it had been darkened. The amount of time it takes to darken is set by standards and testing and is not an adjustable feature otherwise you'd be looking at issues. Also a proper auto-darkening filter protects you even in the light state from actually damaging your eyes.

Just bought this hood yesterday 2/10/23. Thank you for your review as I've yet to use it. I'm a first time welder with absolutely 0 knowledge of hoods or welding. I bought the Chicago Electric Flux 125 and this hood to weld stuff around my home when needed. I mean I did weld a couple thing about 20yrs ago with a welding helmet and woke up with my eyes welded shut 😂😂😂 worst pain ever. So as long as this hood keeps that from happening, it's a win in my book😊😊 thanks again for your review

Thanks for the review! I am brand new to welding and have the red helmet. I can't see worth a darn but figured it's because I'm so new to the art. My settings are as described in the manual, I have it at 11 and tried 10 but noticed a difference. You mentioned you have to 'look' for the material which gives me hope.

Nice review! I have the next hood up, the one with the cheesy blue stickers. But it also has "grind mode" where you can use it without it darkening when you're grinding, which is nice. Paid $34 for it with a coupon at the Black Friday sale at HF a few months ago. Love it, will buy another if it ever dies on me but so far it's been 100%. Worlds ahead of the old fixed shade analog helmets, and for the money you can't beat it. Also, when the batteries eventually die there are YT videos on how to replace them in these CW helmets so don't throw it out, put in a couple of $3 watch batteries and rock on for another 5 years, lol! I enjoy your videos, you got a like and a sub. Keep up the good work.

I realize you posted this video two years ago. But I noticed no one mentioned it. But you said you are afraid of welding flash. Don’t be concerned with any helmet. The danger with welding isn’t from the bright light, it’s the UV that is caused by the arc. To my knowledge all welding helmets protect you from UV regardless of the shade. Moral of the story even if your auto darkening helmet doesn’t darken for some reason it will be bright, but you will still be protected from the UV and therefore won’t get welding flash. The Sandy feeling in your eyes after getting flashed is sunburn on your eyes.
@Bufordboone
@Bufordboone 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve sense learned this, it still hurts and I would rather not see a mig arc under anything less than a shade 9 lol.

I personally wouldn't trust one of those shields Expeacially if you do any decent amount of welding. I used to have one years ago and it always left my eyes sore and I've heard from friends that it can actually cause a Welders flash. They just don't darken fast enough. I would stick with a name brand if you're going to go with an auto darkening shield. There really is a big difference. Between those Chinese import ones and the name brand 100 to 150 dollar ones. If you're only using it for 5 or 10 minutes that's kinda one thing. But if you're looking to use it for projects where you're looking at a good day or two of welding then pass on those cheap pieces of shit. Because it's only a matter of time before you regret buying it in the first place.
@Bufordboone
@Bufordboone 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don’t use it much, I thought it would be nice to have a auto dark but I don’t weld enough to justify spending 200+ on a nice one, this one just scares me, even 5 or 10 minutes welding with this and I’ll see spots for a few hours afterwards, I went back to the tried and true shade 10 stagnant hood, it’s best for what I do as far as welding is concerned.

I had the Cheap HF helmet. It worked good for about 4 years. The batteries aren't replaceable. The factory installed batteries are sitting on the shelf going dead in the box. The batteries died and I ended up buyIng a new one on EBay for about $40.00. Replaceable batteries, full size screen, and full adjustments. The CCP knockoff market is cutthroat. Once US Mtg sent the first operation over there everything, and I mean everything, they took with them was copied and is now being made by slave labor. Patents mean nothing. Once you set up the operation it is cheap to just run it. Hi end, low end, one plant makes it all.
