I don't think Peter Cetera ever gets enough credit for what a skillful and innovative bass player he was.
@robertcussins28076 ай бұрын
So correct. Listen to his work on the first album CTA. Poem 58 from that shows what an amazing power trio of him, Kath, and Seraphine could have been. Two of the three excellent vocalists as well as players.

His predominant '80s image as pretty-boy love song singer overshadows what a beast he was.

RIP: Terry Kath 💔🔥🎸U R missed Here's another song from the same album, if interested. "Chicago - Poem for the People - 7/21/1970 - Tanglewood (Official)" (channel: Chicago on MV) --This song was written and performed by Robert Lamm and released in 1970 on their second studio album. This song "It Better End Soon" has such a powerful message, and such a great anti-war song. A Timeless message as well. ❤🔥😥✌

Totally agree with your reaction. I heard the War influence too (and you know I love that band). Terry and Peter were great singers and totally different. This song had everything. It was a lot to take in. I always think something like this is fun and rewarding for the band itself. Greatest horn sections: James Brown, Chicago, Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire. Am I missing anyone?

One of the first albums I owned as a kid, 14ish. I played the heck out of it. Terry Kath was the soul of the band. Argueably one of the best guitarists in his day. Jimi Hendrix admired Terry Kath. After Terry died the band went all Pop music.

@@DavidEveritt74Terry Kath was incredibly self-taught and couldn't read or write musical signature. He had James Pankow transcribe what was in his head. Kath wrote "Introduction" that opened their debut album and bandmates said it was an incredibly difficult song with the key changes and time changes including 19/8 time.

La and Chee, I just flicked back to 6 months ago and watched your reaction to 'Questions 67 & 68'. The record cover had the B side showing as 'Listen'. Please listen to Listen. Also from the 1st album is 'I'm a Man', originally a Spencer Davis Group hit song, with Steve Winwood as an 18 year old. Then there is Chicago's 1st hit single (in Australia) 'Does Anybody Know What Time It Is'. All 3 songs are a must for the discerning ear. Cheers ✌

Quoting James Pankow Trombonist and horn arranger for Chicago when he met Jimi. Jimi said to him "I really dig your band man. Your horns sound like one set of lungs and your guitar player is better than me." Pankow says it came close to Jimi joining with Chicago. Imagine that!!!!

An anti-war (Vietnam War) song written by Lamm. He was very outspoken against the war, how the war seemed to be dragging on with no end in sight, and the violent protests against the war. He also wrote another song concerning social awareness and the problems of miscommunications - "Dialogue Parts I & II (Chicago V - '72). Fist time I have seen anyone react to this song - it was a fill on Chicago II but very in-tune with that era.

This Record - & Album - shows out the next level brilliance of this ensemble . The message meets the moment . Terry Kath (guitarist/vocals) is the Pulmonary Artery of this one , and their signature for the first 7 Albums in particular . Sounds as relevant and visceral as it did when I first heard it more than 50 years ago .

😎Thats all Terry on Lead vocals. No filter except for his anger over Vietnam. Chicago had 3 lead singers who switched often. This is Terry Kath. Robert Lamm ( Keys..Saturday in the Park) is the only original voice left in the band since Terry died and Peter Cetera (Bass...25 or 6 to 4) went solo. Thats Walter Parazaider killing the flute.

The early Chicago is top notch! I personally don’t care for the 80s schlock. The Doobies on the other hand, I love both the early stuff and the later Michael McDonald era output.

Terry Kath, the guitarist was also lead vocalist on this. The studio version has better audio and production quality, but the Live at Carnegie Hall version has more energy and adds a killer guitar solo in between the flute solo and the Preach. Definitely worth a visit.

As producers,I think you would enjoy seeing how Chicago would sound if they were recorded with today’s technology. Look no further than the brilliant Leonid and Friends who started as a Chicago tribute band from Russia to now a successful touring event that also includes perfect covers of Steely Dan and Earth Wind and Fire. The production is genius and you get to watch it all on their videos. Start with “ 25 or 6to4”.

Hendirx had a few other favs Rory Gallagher , Billy Gibbons . But a true master of the electric guitar knows how to push his amp , use his whammy bar and control the tone and volume. Jeff Beck, Peter Green ( Peter Green: "I've Got A Mind To Give Up Living (All Over Again)" get the live version and hear the man make BB King sweat . It was a BB song but Green kinda owned it.
