it was the old bridge crossing for the paulian conector before the subway elevated trains used that bridge to cross the tracks and connect to the elevated line alone milwakee ave.

wow, any idea how this fire started? and also, i can assume that there were delays in commute times, right? and they only used on hose? (or maybe two?) lol, at least 5 or 6 hoses to put out the fire quickly so service could be restored quickly

@LocalRailfan it wont hurt anything on the train.

This happened around 1996 at the abandoned elevated lines bridge crossing at Paulina and Hubbard.

I know there is a variety of different rules for calling out signal aspects, but I don't think there is a rule for calling out "the signal bridge is on fire." Maybe an approach restricting would do the trick!

ok peoples I dont get Why your complaining of the train going under the bridge. Obviously the train either couldn't stop in time and didn't want to stop under the bridge or dispatch wanted that train to get through before it got worse or something fell on the tracks

@MHWulf Possibly one of the signals malfunction or a wire broke causing a fire

And if it was Electrified With Third rail That could also be a cause

did this fire affect the signals that are on it?

I've seen cars on fire and buildings on fire and even paper but never bridges.....wtf was going on that night?
It would be scary if I was on that bridge and the metra was on there did they put that on the news by the way

Why the hell would they operate a commuter train under a vulnerable for destruction bridge?? I don't get that
@chooch19955 жыл бұрын
The bridge is made of steel.....{ & a lot of iron oxide } - it was the wooden catwalk burning......I suspect railroad management hadn't a clue at this point & the hogger didn't realize the gravity of the situation until he got closer & highballed thru.....
@DevelopingJon12 жыл бұрын
And yet they have a green board to go??????? who's track is that commuter or freight
@chooch19955 жыл бұрын
"Green board", Jon?? Are you referring to the signal? If so, why wouldn't it be green? Its job is to convey track occupancy by trains...…& nothing to do with structure fires......
@RTD848115 жыл бұрын
That was really stupid of the train operator to go under that burning structure. That structure coulve collapsed on top of the train and caused more chaos.
@chooch19955 жыл бұрын
Which structure? The bridge? It's steel & somewhat fireproof. When you're westbound on the old Milwaukee you're running street level until just before this location. The grade ramps up & pops you right into this location....you're normally in notch 8 here & accelerating past 40 mph....dumping the brakes could've stopped the train right under the bridge. That would've been "really stupid of the train operator", as you said......
