I remember Obie's from when I was a kid. I never thought about square cut... Also, another place I loved as kid was Pop N Pizza, on 59th, near the ice block place, under the train.

I used to go there whenever I was visiting my friends in that neighborhood. Always went to the corner to Pop N Pizza for a slice and a pop.

Always ordered are pizza form here, its best pizza around, people are friendly, and yes soooo true eat as you drive! Heck I lived 6 blocks away and couldn't wait and had to have a pice. In 96 I moved about 2 hours away and its the ending of 2019 and to this day we still go and pick up pizza from there. Tried places around here but keep going back, not much is left by the time we get home. Keep Going!!!

Awesome, I love a deluxe pizza. peppers, onions, sausage, mushrooms and ham. With copious amounts of cheese and just right amount of delicious fresh sauce.

Obbie's really is one of the best thin-crust pizzas here in Chicago. I'm gonna lose any semblance of South Side cred by saying this, but I still remember picking up my Obbie's sausage pizza to watch during Game 7 of the Cubs v Indians world Series. Missed the first inning because of it, but oh, so worth it! Obbies and the Cubs winning their first world series in 108 years will forever be tied together in my memories. (My folks didn't watch baseball, so as a kid I grew up with WGN and Cubs day games being always on. Nobody was there to set me straight to be a Sox fan!) Obbie's even got a shout-out on the CBS series "The Good Wife." Not something I've ever watched, but apparently the last episode of the first season, when a character gets released from prison, their first stop is Obbie's for a pizza. I can totally understand that. :)

Love Obbies.....so many blocks from our house but Obbies beats them all!!!! Seriously, try it. Definately best in Garfield Ridge.

Also from the South side near midway and obbies and justapizza along with pasitanos are the go to spots for pizza. Thin crust is the year round choice.

I would like to recommend a restaurant for Chicago’s Best to try! They should check out Vince’s Pizza on 63rd street in the Clearing neighborhood! You have got to try their thin crust sausage pizza!

Brings back memories, used to live just blocks from there. Had their pizza many times. IMHO Pizzeria Uno still the best in Chicago, Gino's East close second. Pizza was always awesome in Chicago.

Serious question for all the chicagoans out there. Is your signature deep dish pizza more of a touristy thing? Seems like alot of these pizzerias are thin crust. Pardon my ignorance Im just curious.

Greg Garza yea normal Chicagoans eat deep dish once or twice year. Thin crust tavern style is what 90% of the pizza places are. And the pizza is always cut in squares.

No, you never have a signature dish just to appeal to outsiders. Most thin crust pizzeria have a deep dish option. Don't know what tim Fox is talking about once or twice a year and always cut in squares that's just his experience and nothing more

Well, judging by the last two replies, I guess it depends. :) I'm also one of those Chicagoans (born Back of the Yards, live near Midway) who only has deep dish maybe once a year. I hadn't even tried it until I was a teenager. My family and friends always had thin crust pizza. This is not to say deep dish is "tourist" pizza. You go to any of the deep dish or stuffed joints like Malnati's or Giordano's (to pick the two biggest ones of the two styles), you'll definitely find a lot of Chicagoans there. It's just that, at least in my experience, the everyday pizza is thin crust, as deep dish is more special occasion pizza. But Darth Celsius is right that a lot of places that offer thin crust will also have a deep dish or stuffed option. I don't know if I'd say most do, but a lot do. My favorite pizza places besides Obbies (Vito and Nicks , Villa Nova in Stickney, Marie's, Pat's) for example, only offer thin. And Chicago-style thin crust is almost always cut in squares, unless you go to a place that also serves it by the slice. But there are lots of pizzas in Chicago that are not Chicago-style thin crust, and those usually have the normal pie cut. And the square cut is not a Chicago-only thing. You will see it around various places in the Midwest. A bunch of Milwaukee joints do it; I've seen it in St. Louis. Some places in Indiana have it, and I've seen it as far east as Ohio. It's a good cut for sharing at a bar or at parties because it ends up basically becoming finger food. You could just have a little snack here and there with your drink instead of having to chow down on an entire eighth of a pizza at a time.

It depends on what you want that day. In Chicago you have many choices. Thin, pan, thick, stuffed, deep dish... You can have a different style crust every month and not repeat once. Love Chicago pizza. I miss home💟

Huh well living in the Chicago area there is a deep dish/tavern style joint on every block. Yet when I go out for pizza, I always get NY style. Not that Chicago style is bad but I don't care for the sweet sauce and all the cheese. When I was out with my dad eating deep dish he lost a fucking tooth from the thick ass crust.

Yeah when Aurelio's franchised the restaurant nationwide, they premade the ingredients for consistency, and the quality went down. When I used to go to Aurelio's growing up in Chicago, they only had two restaurants, and it was the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life.

They run the dough through a sheeter. Use a pizza cutter to trim it so it's round. Put way too much cheese and cut a round pizza square?????? Does anyone in Chicago know how to make an actual pizza?????
