In her New York Times bestseller White Rage, historian Carol Anderson laid bare a history of policies that have been used to (and which were, in fact, often specifically designed to) impede black progress in America from the Civil War to today. In One Person, No Vote, Anderson guides us through a history of voter suppression tactics including poll closures, photo ID requirements, and gerrymandering. Anderson also reveals the identity of the resistance, in the form of everyday organizers, activists, and residents willing to engage in court battles to restore the basic right to vote to all Americans, just in time for this Fall’s midterm elections.
This program was recorded on November 3, 2018.

Carol Anderson is impressive - what a mind! what a memory! what research and depth! First, we are very blessed to have her, Second, whatever will we do when she passes on (like so many great orators)? do you see/hear any who are ready to step into the mighty shoes? How can we raise up great leaders without a democracy? How can we raise up future leaders with all the constraints put on education?? Educating the people is THE most important piece! Not only are we constraining educators, we are loosening social media garbage.

Another informative interview of Dr. Anderson. Voting day as Holiday a great idea and same day registration too. Free special buses or shuttles rides to voting booths can be helpful to increase voters' turnout.

Although Congress and everyone else worked against Obama during his presidency Obama also held a secret Administration that he did not share with the voters prior to his initial election so I think he's just as dirty and just as conniving and Lowdown as the Congress and the Senators and everyone else who vowed to keep him from passing anyting. Politics today is anything but what the forefathers envisioned it should be I'm quite sure that they did not plan on black people voting therefore they did not plan on voters suspensions in oppressions and every form of Lawless act of giving every citizen the free right to vote but then there's a lot of things in the Constitution that should have been altered or instated after the Emancipation and the Emancipation should have been more than an emancipation so there's just so much undone business to the Constitution and to the rights of the people in this country I'm on the one hand America boast of being a Melting Pot but the truth and reality of America is that it is a white supremacist white entitlement white elitist government and a body of people and they believe that this whole country was built for them well I say that if the pilgrims had not helped I'm sorry if the Indians had not rescued the pilgrims from starvation we never would have had the Trail of Tears

Can someone spoon feed me links to the cdc study that black men are good fathers? As well as the link to the affirmative action based on merit? I need those in my bookmarks to shut my racist family up, especially now in election year.

Carol Anderson, please take yourself back to Africa. Normal Americans do not care. It's 2020, NOT 1950! YOU NEED ID FOR EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY WELFARE! VOTER ID FOR EVERY VOTER! AND YOUR PRESIDENT WAS HALF BLACK, HIGH YELLOW. LOL, 42 COMMENTS! NO ONE IS LISTENING TO YOU!
@serendipity9649

I take you meaning that by "normal Americans" you mean white Americans "don't care". Yes, it is 2020, but you seem to have forgotten that Republicans want to make the country "Great Again" like they think it was in 1950. When Repubs enacted the voter ID laws, they closed down all DMV offices in Black neighbourhoods. They also closed most of the polling stations, or moved them miles away making it harder for African-Americans to vote. Many African-Americans live in the city, and have no need for a driver's license. plus they are limited on what Repubs will accept as ID. Then there is all the gerrymandering Repubs do to disenfranchise Black voters. As for the number of comments----she could care less. The people she is talking to are in the audience.
