Chicagoland Rails: November 2020

Welcome to the third episode of Chicagoland Rails! This episode is the most action-packed so far, with over 40 minutes of trains! In this episode we bring you to many railroads in the region, including Canadian National to witness three of their new heritage units in action! You will also get a quick look at Norfolk Southern, BNSF, CSX, and South Shore action as well. So sit back, relax, and enjoy railroading in USA's railroad capital!

Fantastic aerial view of the yard. And that GTW unit looks terrific. Pretty cool shot of the Illinois Central 'Death Star' and the GTW loco running parallel.

The only thing that’s missing from these heritage units is historically accurate horns.

Would that be a historically accurate engine?

@@davidvanschaick5565 True. They have more character but the only realistic locomotives CN can use are IC SD70s (standard cabs) that they still have. All but 2 of the SD45s from WC are gone. The SD40s are being replaced by Dash 8s on ore trains. They demand super powerful locomotives these days. I know I sound like a buzzkill when I say that but it’s the truth.

Fantastic location for those final few shots with those factories with all the billowing steam. Is that a steelworks? And three trains moving at once: two very slowly, but they were moving.

Yes. Those videos were taken at the east end of the ArcelorMittal plant.

Very awesome video. That NS 8117 leading was NS 60C. It comes by me and terminates in my area. I recognized some of the engines from a few days ago. This was a very fun video to watch and I really enjoyed it. Great job.

Just finished watching the premier of this third episode of Chicagoland Rails for November 2020. Great video Sam! I missed one of the Canadian National Heritage units. I saw the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern and the Grand Truck Western Heritage units. What was the third Heritage unit. I loved all the action in this video. Thank you for sharing this video with us!

I found the Wisconsin Central Heritage unit at 11:34. I did not pay attention to the paint scheme on the Wisconsin Central Heritage unit the first time I viewed the video. Sam, thank you for pointing out that I missed the Wisconsin Central Heritage unit. Did you catch the Wisconsin Central Heritage unit on the bridge over U.S. 45 at the back of the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois?

@@844SteamFan Thanks for the information. I did find the Wisconsin Central Heritage unit when I took a second look at the video. I had not paid any attention to the paint scheme on that lead unit when I watched the premier.

I really like your shots I am from the area and know all these locations. The Dixmore video was great! Have you ever been to the Park Forest Rail Fan Park? It has great elevation and because its a North West South East exchange it's pretty busy.
