My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

You legit should be on the Echo corporate payroll. You keep investigating until you find the real causes of problems. Repair techs here just either say they can't fix it or that it's fixed when it's not. lol. As a dealer, I hope you have an Echo rep you can let know the problems with their machines.

The biggest baddest blower I had was one of my own creation. I took an old belt drive furnace fan, 208 cc Honda clone, some duct metal, bicycle brake control, idler pulley and arm from an old snow blower and an old lawn mower deck and made my own walk behind blower. It was engaged and disengaged with the bike brake handle and cable connected to the idler pulley to tighten the belt and manually through the engine speed control. Boy, that thing was powerful. Unfortunately the squirrel cage came apart and I ultimately scrapped it, Next time I do this I will be reinforcing the squirrel cage wheel.

I live on a large lot with a lot of trees, mainly pine and oak, and have used both my Husqvarna 150BT and Husqvarna 580BTS leaf blowers a lot. The only thing I've ever had happened to them was a broken cut-off switch wire on the 150BT. I've been extremely pleased with both of them. I know the STIHL and the Echo blowers are the go to for the professionals, but the Husqvarnas have served me well.

As a former Echo dealer, I found Echo to be the most responsive to dealer service issues. At dealer tech updates, they'd always ask "what have you seen?" An Echo rep would write down problem areas on their equipment the techs mentioned. They would address most of these issues quickly. A great company to deal with, imo.

Glad to know this, so if and when the problem appears, I know what to look for, and your right, its a beast of a blower, first time I heard one run in person I was like..."I WANT ONE" , I have typical type southeastern Texas type lawn, meaning lots of leaves and pine needles in my yard, and they are hard to blow off the yard, not with this one, yes, its a bit heavy, loud, you need hearing protection, but its fun to blow leaves with it, it blows them away :)

Another entertaining and informative video. I don't have the 8010, but my neighbor does. I might be able to help him out someday. I enjoyed the "back-pack blower boogie" near the end. Also, I appreciated your comment about calling the manufacturer and getting the story that they have never heard of that issue before. I have a self-feeding drum sander in my wood shop that began mis-tracking a few months ago. I replaced the drive belt twice (at $65 a pop). I googled the issue and found it appeared to be a chronic problem, with no definite fixes. I called the manufacturer, got "that's a new one" and told them they might want to Google the problem as I had easily found several hundred folks with the same issue and little to no manufacturer support. After 3 buddies and I had tried to figure it out for weeks, I called a retired machinist friend to stare at it with me. He found the problem in about 1 minute. I bought a new drive roller with fresh, sharp knurling and the problem was fixed. Thx.

Our shop has sold over 200 8010s and 9010s and 910 Shindiawa's only real problem that we have seen with them is fuel filter pluging issues, mostly in commercial use. Have not seen any kill wire issues yet, but will keep it in mind. Commercial opperators just carry a fuel filter or two in truck and change it out when unit gets low on power or won't rev up. A few broken main frames from one gulf coarse that keeps droping them off carts is the only other issue we have seen with them.

Plus I’d be tempted to repair the wires with a splice rather than travel to a dealer. Or wait for mail. But would have to find a suitable crimp because I would not trust solder in that hot environment.

@@N4HHE that motor would never get hot enough to melt solder🧐
@N4HHE
@N4HHE 10 ай бұрын
@james-rk5sd I said nothing about melting. Solder gets soft with higher temperatures. Vibration. Fatal combination. You will not find solder splices under the hood of automobiles. DoD, FAA, NASA, do not allow wires to be soldered to connectors. Get a small brass tube from the hobby shop which just fits over the wires. Cut about 1/2” length. Fit heat shrink over one wire. Insert stripped wires into tube, overlap the strands. Crush in a crimp tool which folds the center in to pinch the strands. Move the heat shrink over, shrink.

May I suggest perhaps using high flex wire and heat shrink and some other type of strain relief to make your own wires instead of using the crappy ones it came with? Those blade terminal connectors are cheap. Obviously not if a warranty thing but this looks like something that could be upgraded for less than the $1.99 and $2.99. I bought a Redmax in 2011 and was suspicious of the controls being on the blower outlet and opted for the model with the controls on the left however I am grateful for your videos and I have fixed so much of my stuff from ideas you share. Red Armor premix is the only thing I ever used but now its getting pricey, it already was to be honest. I guess I should carry it back to the Echo dealer I purchased it from for a checkup. Good to know. We use both models at our golf course. They’re great. But seem to wear out after a few years of use.

At the shop I was working at, we had 2 8010s doing this. We changed the wires and it still had the problem. We called Echo and they told us to replace the short block with the updated 9010. Did that and had no problems. Echo could not explain why the units were dying but the short block was the fix. Both were under warranty and Echo paid both with no problems.

Thanks, I've ran into my Husqvarna chain saw doing this years ago & thought it was the coil overheating, changed the coil with no success. Now I know what my problem probably was, but by then I was frustrated & through it away. Now I'll start looking for kill wires if it happens again.

OBTW 6 years ago I plucked a PB-770 out of the trash, it had no spark plug, water in the cylinder, frozen and the starter was removed. I filled the cylinder with WD-40, put on a new carburettor and started it with a drill. I still use it every season doing my yard and both my neighbors…. The thing is bulletproof!
