The connection is unbreakable, no matter how much "gov" tries to cut it. Not only will we remember our Men & Nurses. We won't forget what "gov' did the last few years!

I like it! The message makes sense and is practical, speaks to the enlisted as well as officers. Thankyou good Sir, and hopefully we can endure the next few years of ongoing austerity for Defence under this Labour government.

Remember the Australian Soldier (A poem) I am an Australian soldier; I stand tall and proud and true I train and fight for freedom; I honour my country and I protect you Tradition back to the Sudan and Boer where I’ve always served you well As National Servicemen, volunteers and conscripts we’ve often been through hell Right back to our fateful landing upon the ANZAC shore The mateship that we honour is for Company, Regiment and Corps To the Aussie soldier courage, teamwork and initiative are barely but a start For professionalism, loyalty and innovation are clearly in our heart From World War I where Australia mourned the loss of so many fine young men And the role of women forever changed as we stood in support of them Since World War II and wars beyond, from Vietnam to peace keeping today Australian soldiers are deployed around the globe from their families far away And I know each soldier joins the ranks because they feel it too It’s the spirit of the Aussie digger; it’s what we call “true blue” But contact front can take a life; a new name to cast upon the wall In bronze to forever commemorate another loss too great to call In Afghanistan we lost Russell, Pearce, Locke and Wood; McCarthy, Lambert, Marks And forty-one names I could recite, please keep them in your hearts For green on blue is not the way a soldier’s meant to die (As any loss of life through war is so hard to justify) And some returning cannot suppress the mental horror of warfare That saturate their thoughts and dreams, it sends them to despair Sadly the number of soldiers affected by PTSD who are taking their own lives Are far outweighed by the names cast in bronze, those men we highly prize This growing toll also sacrificed so that we may live in peace today Please stand tall and proud to honour their gift; God bless their souls I pray And give strength to those who loved them best as we remember them always We will honour their ANZAC spirit to the very end of days But in life’s passing their mateship is still here with you- I believe it’s standing by your side All I ask that you remember the Australian soldier with love and hope and pride In appreciation to those who serve, Lisa Ride, Australian Army Reserve 1981-2016.

I am excited to possibly serve, (3rd stage of recruitment) although my politic views to do not align It’s important to remember that it’s not about that, It’s about ensuring our great country will continue to exist so we can at least have chance to change in the future, if we loose our status as an independent country then we have no chance to ever change for the better. However it doesn’t change the fact that having lower entry requirements based on gender still doesn’t change the weight of body armour or field packs resulting in reduced combat effectiveness, I worry that during combat this will result in heavier casualties for those that have lowered requirements as they will not move as quick & as we don’t leave our own behind it may cause others that have met regular standards to perish unnecessarily. Politics should be interfering with recruitment standards or defence planning whatsoever, especially when those in power are exempting themselves from past failures & breach’s of law through new legislations they bring forward & pass. I understand that this is a part of the reason that automated units are being brought forward, however our budget does not allow for enough of these units to allow for reversing the reduction of human combat effectiveness & I doubt our economy will improve enough to support the volume required as long as the 2 party system is all that people choose between as both parties claim they create jobs when realistically it’s the growth witnessed for over 2 decades has only been from children leaving high school & entering the workforce, this is not a result from either parties efforts, it’s merely the natural order. The allied forces are more weak in comparison to our adversaries then it has ever been & our technological abilities have also fallen behind.

If I was in the defence force and hats off to all who do and have served your country. My level of trust in current military leadership would be very low due to the way they rolled on Ben Roberts Smith and co for making a decision, reacting to the situation with the training and weapons supplied to do this by same leadership. Not what I would have expected from army leadership to turn on their own, wrong in every way.

Very hard to develop trust, particularly in combat roles, when there are quotas and when officers hang the diggers out to dry. I wonder why our once great army is struggling with morale, recruitment (not if your female) and retention?

Only when the current and illegally extend Chief of the Defence Force of Australia and his cronies resign along with the current defence force dismantling capabilities labour government is elected out of power will the defense force have a chance of defending this great country, that I also served for eight years. Please stop justifying the reduction of your capabilities to protect your infantry with the reduction of its AIFV fleet by 2/3 so it can only equip one battion. And the SPG fleet by half. When the war in Ukraine has shown that mobile artillery and modern AIFV's with the capabilities to defend themselves against ground and arial threats are essential to survive the modern battlefield.
