Jared Nubin of CBS Sports has recently released his list of the best TE’s in the NFL. San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle tops the list as #1. Right behind him at #2 is Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce. Is Travis Kelce now the second best tight end in the NFL? Will he bounce back from his “down year”?

Jared Dubin of CBS Sports on Travis Kelce:
“Kelce is one of the small handful of best tight ends in NFL history. As we saw during the playoffs, he can still take over games along with Patrick Mahomes. He did have a somewhat down regular season by his standards, though, and the Chiefs are likely to continue managing his workload, taking him off the field more often on first and second downs to save him for passing situations.He was only asked to block on 30.7% of his snaps last season, the fourth-lowest mark among 81 tight ends who played 100 snaps or more. That's a good thing for him and the Chiefs, but it also holds him back from topping the list for the 2024 season.”

#87 Just last week at the ESPY awards Kelce won #1 TE for last season! ESPY vs one guy's opinion???? You decide. Analysts are so poorly informed. Chiefs tore up Kelce's remaining two yr contract & replaced the same two years plus $4.3M more on his contract. WHY? Because Kelce HAS BEEN teaching other WRs & TEs how to read the field like he does. How he gets "open"! How he observes the other team's patterns & tells Mahomes where he is going next like in the Bills Play Off game or to get to OT in the Super Bowl. Been teaching FOR FREE! Chiefs just decided to pay him for it. Watch Gray, Pacecko, Watson ... & now Wiley who Kelce was teaching how to block better today at camp! Kelce won't leave Mahomes short handed when he retires. He is building mini Kelces for BFF Mahomes & Reid's arsenal. Kelce took his normal, private trainer with him for 6 weeks this off season. He has continued to train on all his stressed & surgery areas to strengthen them. This trainer turns back time on his body & he is back to his 255 lb fighting weight. It works. Mahomes bragged on him at camp today. Last year Kelce played hurt & in pain so Reid used him wisely. His shoulders & knee are a mess plus he had a very hush, hush surgery & missed Week 18. His 10th football surgery. Kelce is not too old to play but if he wants to be able in the future to lift his own kids or walk normally he must quit. We will be lucky if he plays the 2nd remaining year of that contract. If....you are training others to mimic you, your stats go down. These other guys are getting the ball more than Kelce in real game experience which is fine by him. He is there for the "must have plays". 5 years ago Kelce said he had stopped chasing stats. He had plenty. He was now focused on LEGACY. Hence TEU with Kittle & Olsen & training others to see the whole field like he does. How can an "analyst" not know that??

It’s crazy how people keep talking about how this is such a down here for Travis Kelce, but in reality, it’s only a down year because of how terrible the one receiver core was. He was literally the only option he was getting double and triple teamed every play because the new exactly where the ball was going to go because they knew that no one else on the team was going to get open so now that we have some pieces around them they can catch the damn ball and create space he’s gonna be back to his old self.

We couldn’t stop his elite 2 catches for a mindblowing 4 yards. And the fumble he didn’t see bc he was being a goofball is a very underrated play by him for sure. I wonder if he’s the best George in the league lol

Well, if Kittle plays abt 5-6 years more and wins a couple of rings, averaging abt 1000 a year. But put him against Kelces entire career up til now, not there yet at all.

Travis Kelce is the best tight in the NFL hands-down I would say, Kittle is a really close second but his injuries has really hurt his chances even if he was healthy. I don’t think he would overtake Kelce as of right now!

Gonzalez put up historic numbers w/ avg-ish QBs. Kelcie has PM, Gronk had Brady. Sharp Had Elway. Kittle isn't there yet (perhaps won't have the numbers in the end). Even Gates had Rivers (not the greatest, but still a well above avg QB).

87 Travis Kelce is the Best! But simply Talking about this is Hilarious. George Kittle is awesome but we are comparing a Great TE to the TE G.O.A.T. In Travis Kelce ….. Until he takes over definitively and OH George doesn’t have a Lombardi yet. Given time and possibly even this coming year Kittle might become the current best. Time will tell. Go Chiefs!!
