Chifa! The Must-Try Chinese Peruvian Food.

The history of Chinese-Peruvian cuisine dates back to the mid-19th century when the first Cantonese workers immigrated to Peru and a fusion of their ancient cuisine began.
In this episode, I'm visiting Shinua! An upscale Chifa restaurant in Lima, Peru.
They give a new nuance to the already well-known classics, with European and American touches and ingredients as well as from other regions of the Far East.
If you go to Peru, this place should be at the top of your list of places to try!

As a chinese peruvian I would say the heart of chifa doesnt rely on fancy high end fancy spots and thats not even traditional chifa its on the average mom and pops place in downtown in china town

I agree with you. I am not against this kind of fancy restaurants, it is good to have options and the existance of innovation; but, in deed, they are not the escence of what we call 'Chifa'..

"Chifa", es el término que le denomina en el Perú a la Cocina fusión entre la Peruana y la China 🇵🇪🇨🇳, creaciones como el aeropuerto, el arroz chaufa, el mostrito y la adaptación del lomo de vaca a lomo saltado, es gracias a esta fusión 😋🍽️. You can easily spend a few years in Lima trying different dishes. Peruvian cuisine is vast and diverse . That is just Lima and there's also de North, South, Sierra and Jungle

Interesting... I think this could be an eye-catching proposal for foreigners. Having lived the past 36+ year in the USA I validate the concept. However, the essence of Chifa is rooted more for the masses than the upscale audience. I am sure "Shinua" is fantastic and I am considering it on my next visit to my Peru for some chinese "Dumplins"... But it will definitely be AFTER trying the traditional local Chifa at the corner of the street. I wish they would have shown along with the dumplings their version of a rise-especial chifa plate.

this is upscale tusan food sure (Chinese-peruvian), however, it is by no means truly Chifa, Chifa is a working mans food, that's the core of it, it's like fast food in the states, you can't really make upscale fast food, doesn't mix together.

Chifa is the fusion of peruvian and chinese cuisine. The same as ceviche, anticuchos it is delicious and other countries in South America start to copy it because theur own cuisines are not enough rich except for Brazil and Argentina.

Ironicamente... restaurantes "upscale" como este esta diseñado para atraer al turista usualmente de Inglaterra, Francia, US ... paises que historicamente han estado en guerras mundiales. Como entonces justificarlo señor Javier? ... lo veo dificil. Creo que la mejor opcion, aunque parezca ironico ya que estamos hablando de chifa, es NO MEZCLAR las cosas... una cosa son las guerras... que paises como Israel que hoy no tuvo eleccion y esta en una contra terroristas... eso de "PARA LA GENTE QUE NO GUSTA DE GUERRA" umm no va! Dejemos las guerras con sus bandos y razones(claro esta que mi coto es que erradiquen a los terrucos)... fuera de la mesa, el arte culinario peruano ... TODOS son bienvenidos a esta mesa peruana!

La cocina chifa o el chifa es tradición peruana, se dice que hay más chifas que cevicherías y pollerías... Prácticamente en cada esquina o en cada par hay un chifa

Chifas are neighborhood restaurants for most part, they are everywhere and are fusion cuisine. If you want real Chinese food you have to go to Chinatown, the “ barrio chino “

En peru por la gran migracion china nacio el CHIFA aunque Ecuador quizo copiar no pudo porque la verdaderq fusion se logro solo en Peru.

Amigos gracias por Visitar el Perú..... Pero ese bonito restaurante exclusivo, NO es propiamente un CHIFA..... Al haber en la propia China varias Cocinas regionales,como la Pekinesa, de Sichuan, de Cantón etc., y al ser la Migración China que llegó al Perú mayoritariamente de Cantón, El Chifa no es exactamente comida Chino-Peruana sino Cantones a-Peruana, es más aún, es PERUANO-CANTONESA.. Puesto que con la propia cocina Cantonesa hay alguna diferencia.

Conosco chinos turistas fueron a los chifa en Lima ...no existe estos platos en su país...ni el arroz chaufa existe.....algo parecido si....pero no se es chifa

Estuve en China hace unos años. Recorrí ese país de sur a norte. Pensé que hallaría el chifa que siempre comía en Lima. No existe. Es más, a diferencia del chifa peruano, buena parte de la comida china es muy picante. Después vinieron miembros de una compañía china de la que solíamos importar y los llevamos a algunos chifas. Pensamos que se sentirían "en casa". No les sorprendió el chifa y no la encontraron realmente china.

I am not against this kind of fancy restaurants, it is good to have options and the existance of innovation; but, in deed, they are NOT the escence of what we call 'Chifa'. I thougth she was going to visit a traditional place, not this sofisticated version of chifa, which is obviously thougth for tourists and people who like trendy places for their IG. As I said, "new" experiences are ok, but new things are not necesarily the escence of things.
