When taken to court the judge basically told the wife you should pay your payments and dismissed the case, when the professor protested the judge told him and I quote "Do you really want the mother of your children in jail for not paying?". So while yes there might be cases where the woman ends up in jail, the family court system in the USA is in favor of women.
