Fifteen years ago I got a passenger ride in a Ford GT40. I'd always wanted to know if the driving experience lived up to it - and today I get to find out.
Big thanks to the team at Total Headturners in Essex for letting me loose in this masterpiece.

The other day I saw what I immediately recognized as a Ford GT in my rearview mirror. . . But I was surprised to find as it approached that it was the new redesigned GT, not the old one. It was still an absolutely jaw-dropping car.

This channel deserves far more exposure than it gets. There are lots of youtubers showcasing and featuring interesting cars, modified, rare or expensive. But none manage to convey the driving experience to the watcher as well as this guy. Always descriptive and honest, full of facts, knowledge and interesting stories without being edited to within an inch of its life. If LLF, JayEmm, OG and car throttle collaborated you’d have the new top gear.

Ford has always been goliath because Ford, as a whole, doesn't get enthusiast cars. They had outsiders come in or mavericks inside do things like provide the engine for the Lotus 38 or build th Mustang and the GT40 but the Fords? All they care about is sales figure and as soon as those projects were done doing what they neef , chop the programs head off. I'll take Colin and Enzo over Henry every day and twice in race day.

William Barnett-Lewis How many Ferrari cars is the average person going to own? Zero. Ford builds for the 99% of people and Ferrari for the 1%. Yet they were able to produce some iconic performance cars that average people can own.

@@wlewisiii Ferrari build cars for the elite, Ford build cars for the less well off. Even if you have the money, Ferrari won't sell you a car if you're not on the "approved" customer list. Great car and great video - very inspiring stuff :) Personally I might lean more toward the Shelby Daytona Coupé though. Perhaps the slightly modernized Superformance version. Seems just a tad more "practical" and still has the pedigree and still looks and sounds ace. If I could dream I'd wish there were more replicas of the Bill Thomas Cheetah around though. Lovely insane little monster of a car!

At first I was taken aback... The now ex Ford GT and this share so many similar lines that I thought for a moment that that _was_ a Ford GT and not a GT40 (although the frontend looked different somewhat), especially since the paint job looked so similar, down to the stripes and except for that added "40"... I was not even sure after the first shots inside the car. But then there was the shot when you sat on the door sill. Then I was definitely convinced that this was not the 21st century homage car. But with videos it's sometimes hard to tell.

@JayEmm - two months on, and so many great cars later, has that impression lasted? As I watched this I was actually thinking of the Exige 410GT. Not the same I know, but when I imagine owning one, it would compete for the same slot in the garage (an hour out on some roads to have fun). There are not many cars that would make me think the Exige is the really practical alternative, but this is one. :-) Judging by your reaction driving this, the peak fun of this “GT40” might be about as high as it gets though. How do you feel about it now? Any differently?

nice upload, however I'd question the "its a slow car, a lotus would...." I'm only saying this as many years ago I was at a track event & several GT40 reps had already made it out onto the track (I wasn't driving!! only watching etc) anyway 1 driver was certainly putting his foot down with a very spirited drive & he was flying past many many 90-early - 2k supercar/sport cars, they weren't driving slow either... (if memory serves me correctly the GT40 driver did get flagged) however I have seen that car several times on a track (I'm not sure if its the same driver) with a good competent driver I'd happily back him in a GT40 over many other cars/driver combinations. pps yes the ford V Ferrari is a good film, my only complaint is I only wish they kept more original facts within the film rather then dramatizing it & adding a lot of false/changes to true events, I'd have happily sat through a 2-3hr film showing the full story...…….. anyone reading this I'd also add watch a real le-man's race or story found on utube just regarding that race series alone you'll understand what I mean afterwards.

The problem with stories like that is they're not an excellent metric for how fast a car really is/isn't. This one needed more setting up, and might have handled better after a proper geo, but 60 years of suspension and chassis development does bring some improvements!

The original (only one exists) is a wooden framed, aircraft fabric covered JAP motored Morgan three wheeler with a GN solid rear. I am scratch building a 1928 Morgan Aero with an opposed twin , turbo-ed, a wooden over metal frame. The aircraft engine will be mated to an MGB transmission with 4 forward and one reverse gears connected by driveshaft to an MGB rear differential with beautiful black wire rims.
