Holy shit. Now I see why this interview is trending. There really IS a movement going on! Didn't even really think of it but holy shit there is a movement. It's like all the 90s and late 80s black kids (OF, Gambino) are now surfacing in the modern era and expressing their creativity. Because if you are are black and born in the 90s and grew up in the suburbs (like OF) you definitely have an interesting world view and creative spirit which Gambino also channels. It's like we're heading into an age of well spoken black Americans with a strong and eclectic creative energy that fuses black culture with their surroundings and etc in a modern day America.... damn. This is big.

I know this comment is 3 years old and I didn't check all of the 65 replies (mine 66) but I do have to stop you- OF members definitely did not grow up in the suburbs lol. They are well-spoken, creative, and oddly intelligent, but that does not mean you had to grow up in the burbs. A lot of black youth in the projects are like them but get molded by the hood mentality they are surrounded by and then you get the accent and the gang banging. Fortunately, they stayed themselves and through their music they found a way out of their environment but the last thing you should do when you meet a creative, well-spoken black youth is to just assume they grew up in better neighborhoods and such. Like any black kid from the projects has no capacity for being that way.

See i caught that shit, notice how my boy says that STN MTN/KUAI is gonna be a transition mixtape. His new song "Candler Road" is a perfect example of what the tape will display. It starts out a little more trap-like then the second half of the song is more real and the style completely changes. But see Donald never tells anyone this type of stuff, you figure it out for yourself, you decipher it yourself, you depict it yourself, that...that is art. Donald is a genius.

the fact that intelligence has been made synonymous with being "corny" in hip hop is an embarrassment and an abomination to the culture. We need more intelligent rappers like this. Ignorance is what's REALLY corny.

Just from the way people talk about him it seems like people like to think he's not real hip hop and for that, and other reasons, they're 'too good' or 'too cool'. Like he's a One Direction of hip hop or something.

LanIost that is true. What i ment was that if i ask a random person (at least here in norway) who childish gambino or donald glover is, almost no one will know who it is. But if i put on a song like 3005, sober or heartbeat they will say that they have heard the song before.

HE is definitely relatable, on so many levels. I love it. its like Rosenberg said " I'm really black, I also have qualities about me , that previously people considered to be "white", but thats really me too..." Childish Gambino said it perfectly: " Being young and black in America is Schizophrenic. You kinda have to change who you are a little bit all the time, for people to even respect you.." As soon as I heard his music, I could relate to him, I was like finally an accurate representation of middle class black kids. FINALLY! lol Love this man, i love enlightening conversations like this!

Abosolutely! He is a great representation (and Kanye used to be) of the average middle class black kid that probably lives in a decent neighborhood and their parents have good jobs, but their grandma and aunt and cousins that they see and chill with regularly still live in the hood. its this inbetweeners thing where you're not hood enough to be about that life, but you're not privileged enough to be about that life, we're finally being represented!

I think my favorite thing about this interview is definitely the freestyle, not just because he straight up killed it but because I didn't expect it. When he kept saying, "Yeah... Um... Aha Rosenburg..." I thought he didn't have anything. But then he just pulled it outta nowhere. I think he always has a lot to say but people don't respect the way he says it because he has this persona of being a "white-black" so he doesn't always emphasize what he means. But when he starts rapping like that, it's like he's free and there's no judgement and it's all based on his skill. Gambino is changing the game and is making the rules as he goes. He's playing with the cards he has and pioneering one of the best upcoming music careers ever.

Gambino is so real. Any non-predjudiced person sees that. There's no predjudice in what he says, and he's right about it all. I really respect him. I wish more people watched this, because its just real. I grew up not knowing predjudice, I grew up loving everyone for who they are, but as I got older, I realized how unbelieveably rude people are based on race. I wish it didn't exist, I wish everone could just accept people based on their character. And it hurts my heart that my race is the reason there is so much predjudice. I don't know if my ancestors fought for equality, I don't know if they owned slaves, but it disgusts me that the possibility of them being racist was there. And it disgusts me that I couldn't do anything to change their perspective. All I know is, my son (a mixed race, PERFECT boy) will only know love, and will only learn to love others. No race, no predjudice, just human beings trying to make the most of their lives.

JuliusC. bro wtf you talking about..gambino only put out one decent project which is "because the internet" , all his other projects is just cheesy punchline rap or some corny pop music. Drake paved the way to be "emo" as a rapper after kanye's 808's and heartbreak, so this style is definitely Drake's style, that's 2009 so far gone, so you don't have your info right...And I said this Generation he is the greatest, I didn't say OF ALL TIME. The only two that can be considered the greatest of this era is Kendrick or Drake but nobody is killing the game commercially, sonically, or critcially right now like Aubrey, he is too damn consistent.

I wasn't even going to watch this interview in its entirety because it was really long but once I heard what he started talking about with the black communities and literally just speaking from the heart, I couldn't stop watching. I'm not usually into all the black america movement, basically I'm just like the example of what he was talking about with the people who are good at saying yeah I see whats happening and I have an opinion but I'm not really doing anything about it and I think that people like him can change the way the people look at things. He has a totally different perspective on everything that he says and sees and its really refreshing to see someone like him making music because honestly whatever it is, it is super dope. I am a huge fan of his work and I loved his album.

I love Peter Rosenberg interviews. He acknowledges things only true fans would know, and then, when the questions are all said and done, the interview gradually turns into a conversation.

before people start attacking others, just remember how we've all been more inspired to think freely based on ideas he shared. I personally think that he inspires the link between life and Art through honesty. There's never really an award for that.

LOVE that about needing to hear both sides!! Not enough people do this! Even my best friends which I WANT to be on their side I REFUSE to give advice without both sides. I can usually get both parties to see how each as valid point but here is where the communication breakdown occurred. Its also why I stay in middle of road politically..each side has points I agree with and don't agree with. Gotta b willing to hear both sides and change your mind...makes ya a better person.
