He wrote a book, too, called the Koran, although back in the day when it was written it would have been in scroll format, so he's strictly speaking a scroll author and not a book author in the modern sense as, say, Stephen King or J.K. Rowling. Nevertheless, it's mandatory reading in that part of the world and some even reenact scenes from the book such as beheadings of disbelievers and the like. You could think of it as somewhat akin to D&D roleplaying but with a slight twist. I've only read excerpts myself but found them pretty boring and nonsensical, though you do need to keep in mind that it wasn't intended for a highly literate audience to begin with. It's kind of like those airport novels, if your audience has simple tastes you don't have to write them masterpieces like War and Peace. Just give them something to kill time with and they're set...
