The civil war in Syria has created the world's worst refugee crisis in twenty years. 2.8 million people have fled their homeland to live in foreign camps, such as the UNHCR camp in northern Jordan.
"I always heard the word refugee but I never imagined I would be one", says Samar Hariri, a grieving school teacher and mother of five. Samar, her husband and their children are just a handful of the 100,000 displaced Syrians who flocked to Camp Zaatari - just a few kilometres from the border with Syria - and who now call it home. Two years ago, collections of tents sat incongruously in the middle of this barren desert. Now a refugee city with a distinctive heart and soul of its own, a community of resilient, hopeful people looks set to grow ever more established. "You ask yourself, why is this happening to me? A person who always had dignity now has none". Once a prosperous, middle class family man, Abu Diaa now focuses on transforming their camp into something resembling home: an essential coping mechanism for enduring life in a refugee camp. It is an impulse Kilian Kleinschmidt, head of Zaatari Camp, understands: "When you lose everything... your home, your belongings, you have lost your identity. Everything has gone." In this deeply moving report we witness the stoicism of a family rebuilding themselves among thousands of others.

even if it did, is anyone going to go back? the reason 40-ish% of the migrants were syrian and the rest were everything else is because WAR was not the main reason the syrians or anyone else left the country. it was economics so unless we are into nation building again and we want to rebuild syria from the ground up, or we just put them all on boats and send them back even if syria "finds peace" they lost it in 20 seconds because that entire region has been in a constant state of war and violence for thousands of years. but who funded ISIS i cant remember who gave them those weapons and helped pushed the war in a bloodier direction. hmmmmm. Annie Louie Syrians on average have 2 to 3 kids, even before the revolution/civil war the birthing average was about 2.3 per woman and you need 2.1 to maintain the same population numbers without increasing it, and that’s in peace. So, it’s not like they’re breeding left and right like in some other countries that shall remain nameless.

What a beautiful, resourceful, resilient and hard working family and extended family. Testament to the strength of their parents. Who value education. Something that most parents still do not understand to this day. Education makes one grow. Wether it is in the classroom or through parents and grandparents and cultures and traditions passed down, teaching life lessons to your children will help them grow and adapt to the harshness of life.

Nepali Hercules. You are right. Similar things also happening here in Hong Kong. Restaurant used to employ many old men and women's servants. But labour right party complain the employer are enslaving the elderliness and so the government ban it. So, the elderliness loss there freedom/right to work. it is just ridiculous.

in nepal the aid agencies accused our carpet manufacturers of hiring child labor and ran a multi million dollar smear campaign in europe and they shut down the entire industry. about 50,000 people were employed and yes some children were employed as well. but these do gooders destroyed 50,000 livelihood and those children they protected had to scavenge the garbage to find food. some ended up in prostitution.
@peterkung6793
@peterkung6793 6 жыл бұрын
nepali hercules. I think I heard your story about child labor before. These ridiculous human-right parties actually taken/stolen our right/free-willing/liberty in the name of protect you. when I was a child in around 1965, children are free to work for money to share a support to their family. These were all light-duty works such as assembling plastic flowers. Collect the parts from factories, assemble these parts together at home & then return it to the factories. Everybody were happy because they then could have some pocket money to buy toys or food and their parents don't have to gave them pocket money. No one complain the factories were enslaving the children. Now these ridiculous parties are carry on stealing workers' right to work longer time so as to earn more. They are doing this in the name of protecting their health. This is totally anti-liberty. It is my own freedom and human right to choose to work overtime and even work on holidays, no one should take this right from me.

Such a start difference of attitude in this camp and that of the IS. No wonder why those people joined the terrorist organisation. The children here getting an education and the children there throwing stones

We are opposed to treating Syrian refugees in inhumane ways. we want to help them live on human dignity and honor. Koreans welcome Syrian refugees with our friendship. apply for Korea to come. We welcom our friends in Syria. cause human beings come first more than anything else. We'd like to treat them with friendship and honor. apply for Korea now.
