Friday marks seven years since an NYPD detective and single mother of three was killed in the line of duty. Det. Miosotis Familia was gunned down while sitting in a mobile command unit. CBS New York's Jennifer Bisram reports on the emotional and financial struggle her children are still facing.

This is one of the real issues in American not only Nyc. Politicians are on the podium using kids causes for their campaigns. Situation such as this are a no brainer and a real situation for potential to contribute to children’s needs in a meaningful way and not only to children of fallen officers but any child in America who experiences loss such as this. Are there other states in the US that help children when they become orphans in a meaningful way……?

Omg! That policy is absolutely tone deaf. It doesn’t match the reality of culture in the 20th and 21st century. If the department doesn’t change this policy then the department should allow an employee to add an amendment that clearly indicates their children or a trustee as their pension beneficiary. In addition, the department should inform every employee of the current policy so they can make appropriate changes to ensure they can pass along their hard earned benefits to their next of kin.

Cop wasn't paying attention when dude walked over and did what he did cops stay using there phone's while sitting in vehicles. And didn't the organization that deals with dead cops pay her mortgage so the kids could have a roof over there head? 🤔
