When I was a student I told them I was too poor and couldn’t afford a tv, but they still wanted to come in to check, as they walked towards the door I said bye and shut the door in their face.

I’ve got friends who have chosen to never watch TV and don’t have one. The hoops they have to jump through on a regular basis to explain they have no intention of using a TV is sickening.

I can't believe these people were taken to court over the TV licence. Never let them in it's that simple, you have no contract with the BBC, you don't need to talk to them. Don't even open the door. They have no right to enter. Great video 👍🏿.

I had two goons knock at my door, asking to do a survey of electrical equipment, I agreed. After the 3rd or 4th question, they asked about tv programs. I asked them if they were from tv licensing? They said they were. I lied and said I don’t have a tv. They said ‘it’s our standard reply to that statement, do you mind if we verify that by entering your premises’. I gave them my standard response F Off! I followed them down the road, and shouted TV Licensing, when they knocked at neighbours houses. They promptly left my street

Same here in Ireland, the licence is €160 and I just refuse to answer the door to them. I get sent reminders every few months but I think they need to nab you face to face to do anything about it. I've gotten away with it for just over 5 years. No way I'm paying our national broadcaster for poor programming and overinflated salaries.

I read yesterday (17 March) that Auntie is lobbying government to ban the use plug in streaming devices such as firestick because they say they're responsible for so many cancelling the license tax. Unbelievable!

I've not had a tv or licence for 15 years. I just tell them and they leave me alone for a few years. There's nothing worth watching on tv anyway.

The BBC need to remove their signal from my aerial, I signed no contract with them, agreeing that I would pay a yearly fee. The cheek to even consider taking people to court is corrupt.

Everyone should represent themselves in court that would put a massive strain on the judicial system thus prosecutions would be scrapped. Imagine if over 200 people turned up everyday :)

Phoned the BBC sometime ago gave them my details. Then asked the person on the other end, do you have a lorry ? to which he replied I don’t understand the question. I repeated, do you have a lorry ? he then replied no. Then I said I don’t keeping asking you if you have a fucking HGV license do I. Never heard from them since.

I'm not from the UK, TV licenses are not a thing in my country, but I find these videos interesting. What an odd problem to have.

Having done research on harassment Iaw i can assure all your viewers that the BBC far exceed the criteria to actually bring a case against them for same, harassment is a criminal offence in law, a gentleman in my community has actually won a case against the bbc for harassment after producing the amount of letters he received and directing the court on the threatening nature of these letters which is totally unacceptable to an elderly person, despite the BBC saying the elderly will be treated sencetivily when the free licence was abolished its actually just the opposite, he was awarded compensation and found not guilty due to not watching live tv, they are fully aware their tactics are more than enough to bring a harassment case but most people are unaware that it actually does come under harassment and is easy to prove if you keep all letters and, log any calls or visits by the goons, this is a route that is well worth consideration to stop these parasites from persistent threats, the BBC abuse the fact that people dont , or are afraid to do so, my opinion is backed up by a solicitor who is an expert in harassment law and looking at just one case of the sheer amount of threatening letters off the BBC and the tone of them,hope this helps anyone who is worried and suffering their abuse.

I watch you tube only or dvds and haven’t really heard a peep from them,but they’ve gotten in touch with me this year a few times so I’m almost expecting a visit at some point. I’ve got nowt to hide (though I’d be a bit paranoid of being set up as you say they can do) but at the same time I don’t know if I have the wherewithal to open the door to someone and then just shut the door in their face without feeling like a dog. I got £800 a few years ago because the women at the door told the court she could see my tv from the front door showing something live which it wasn’t it was KZfaq, best of it was the hallway was long and it was impossible to see the tv. She stitched me up good and proper and I honestly don’t know how they get away with it

I’m 80 years of age and I’m the householder, I pay the council tax. I don’t watch tv channels that require a licence. My wife watches BBC News and Countryfile sometimes. I elected out of paying a licence fee and continue to get accusations of watching iPlayer which I signed out of. Have a label on my gate, “No Selling!” Have five TV sets, desktop pc, laptop pc, new and old iPads, Android devices and cellphones, all capable of receiving television. I asked the BBC to stop broadcasting to my television but got no reply.

To prevent TV Licensing approaching your property, write to them, stating that you have withdrawn their implied right of access. There is no need to indicate whether you have a television, and you do not need to give your name. You can withdraw access in the name of "legal occupier". If they knock, have your camera ready to film them, tell them they are trespassing and re read the withdrawn access letter, have it by the door. No fine and no more visits

They can knock on my door if they want, but they will not be invited in. But even if they did come in they would find no evidence as the arial is blanked off

Anything you can say can be used in evidence against you. Anything you may say in your defence can be dismissed as hearsay. Shut your mouth, stay safe everyone.

I personally went on the offensive and read them the wireless telegraphy act, at the time I had no license and did not require one. They've changed the law now and because I watch iPlayer I have a license. One thing to remember is the phrase "I withdraw the right of any employee of your company to be on my property." This means that they must by law immediately get off your property. - Handy

The last time I bought a TV license was in 1994 I cancelled the licence then I have not had a TV license since then I have had enough letters to wallpaper my house I have had three visits in all that time I was not in for two of them and the guy who actually found me in was more interested in the aeroplane engine sat on my kitchen table and wanted to know where he could learn to fly and left without even mentioning the tv license it’s now dec 2021 Sean 😀😀😀👍👍👍

An elderly neighbour of mine received a licencing inspector visit. She was asked to sign a document just to show he'd visited he said. She's registered blind has very poor eyesight he had to help her sign. She didn't notice he'd ticked the box alongside a statement of admission saying she was watching TV. She has no TV. She listens to radio and audio books!

Some people from tv licencing don't tell you they're from tv licencing to catch you out! had a bloke in a suit from tv licence stop me as I was coming in from work saying he'd come to fix the speakers on my TV (1st red flag who wears a suit to fix a tv )My reply was i don't have a tv so why would I need the speakers fixed, he insisted I had called and made an appointment for the speakers to be fixed, showed me a note pad with my name and address, when I asked him what was the phone number left, he said you wouldn't leave a phone number (2nd red flag),who makes an appointment without leaving a contact number. The bloke pissd me off so much going on about the tv that it ended up with my neighbours coming out of their homes from me shouting and swearing at him, I told him he was on cctv pointing to a camera, and to get off my property and if he or any of his friends came back I'd have them arrested. 2 days later i received a tv license exemption certificate. I wouldn't recommend an altercation such as mine, just keep an eye out for the weirdos, who turn up saying that they've come to do something, if I'd said there's nothing wrong with my tv instead of i don't have a tv then I'd have been caught out.

I chinned a license inspector as I was walking into my dad's front garden, the guy had his foot in the front door preventing my dad from closing the door and I hadn't a clue who they were so I done him, the police took my side when they turned up. Makes me think about how many pensioners they use this forceful tactic on.

In 2014 I was visited by TV licencing, I had a TV but used Only for gaming and DVDs, TV was unplugged, I was asked to plug it in and power it up, licensing officer then flicked through channels until he found TV channel then cautioned me, I was summoned to court, I arrived armed with the law on owning a TV and who has to pay for license, CPS argued everyone has to pay as it's law, I disagreed and handed copies of law to magistrates, case was suspended pending investigation, on return to court my case was dismissed, truth is CPS don't know the law on licensing, Anyone can call TV licensing and withhold permission to access a property,, I've never had a visit since

Very helpful, came to my door last week and was asking me questions while i was asking him who he was he wouldn't tell me at first, so i just kept saying who are you then he said TV licence so just shut the door

I have genuinely not watched my TV since the beginning of lock down when I started my loft conversion and took the chimney down and ripped the aerial down, It has been over a year. And even before that I rarely watch it. The TV is just sitting there collecting dust and this is the god honest truth, I only watch Netflix and KZfaq on my tablet or phone, my wife watches polish content on her phone, and my daughter same as me watches Netflix and KZfaq on her phone and tablet.

I don't watch or record live TV but I kinda hope that the TV licensing would try and fabricate a case on me. I'm on the first floor, they have two security doors, a ring doorbell and my best asset is a 35kilo angry dog to get past. And I'm an anti social b*stard anyway.

a few years ago the tv licence turned up on my doorstep i let him in as i didn't have anything to hide all i had was an old analogue tv a dvd player and an old vcr none of which was capable of reception. the tv turd didn't check my equipment and tried reading me my rights. got a summons through the post so obviously the inspector had lied to take me to court. went to court 61 people on the list that day and only myself attended. told the magistrate the truth and my thoughts on the inspector not doing his job properly and telling lies in the process. the magistrate then dismissed the case good result. god help them if they try this crap again.

First court case, the judge asked " did you watch a colour TV in november? Didnt know that was illegal? Shouldn't the question have been " did you watch or record live BBC or have Iplayer installed on any equipment"? The case really should have been thrown out in my opinion!

I love the fact that out of 185 people summoned to court, only about 12% actually appeared. It speaks volumes about how little people take this corrupt 'license' seriously. Hate to say it, but if you are daft enough to let one of those TV License goons into your home in the first place, then you've only got yourself to blame. No entry means no proof. NEVER let them into your home! Better still.......ignore them altogether.

Don't know why anyone would watch the BBC - it's poison. Cancelled mine ages ago.

My 94 year old father lives in a care home that has twice sent in the forms for him and other residents to get a ARC licence, but when I contacted TV licence office they say they have not received anything from them, I believe they are doing this on purpose because they want his £149 and not the ARC price of £7.50, also the arc process is made far to complicated to set up, and when I first contacted my dad's care home they had no knowledge of the ARC licence, why are the TV licence people not telling care homes that they may be able to get this licence, but I think we all know why. £££££.

I had an interesting call with tv licence the other day after telling them I didn't need a licence they told me I'd logged into their iPlayer a while back and watched something , he sounded quite disappointed when I said if I did watch it I might not have been in my property I might have been in a property which was licenced ,that ended that call👍🏻

I cancelled my direct debit last August, all letters "about 5" up to now have been addressed to me in person, got one a few days ago and it's addressed to "the occupier" . Maybe they think I've done a runner lol.

Never fill out forms they give you, including financial forms. You do means test form AFTER if your lose, and after your Appeal. Never give the Prosecuter any information, it is them to prove everything and not for the defendant to supply information, as it will be used against you. Any way you won't be in a real Court, you be in a Star Court. Ask MOJ by a SAR for you case number it will come back none exist.

It would have been interesting to have see the outcome if somone had entered a not guilty plea.

A few years back I was decorating a pals house when a TV/L. called and asked me if I had a license, I asked him to come in. He saw a load of packing boxes no carpets or furniture and saw that I was watching the BBC News, I explained that it wasn't my house it's a friends who had not moved in as I was decorating. He only took my details and about 4mts later my pal phoned and told me a letter had come addressed to me. The courts had fined me £165.00 in my absence. I contacted the courts for another hearing and attended, I explained what had happened but none of the important details were in the report. The magistrate laughed and apologized, I told him (with all due respect) that he was not at fault it was the BBC. who were. He dismissed the case, contacted the BBC but who wrote no apology. I wonder how many more people have had a similar situation.

I live in a British Commonwealth country and we already abolished this ridiculous British legacy in the late 70s. Why does one need to pay for a permission to watch his own TV ?? I can't believe this is still happening in Britain today ! No wonder the Empire has crumbled !

Never make a plea, there is not legal requirement to do such. Human Rights Act.

Haven't paid for years and watch what I want when I want.

My father used to have only a small black & white TV which is a much cheaper licence, but because he lived in quite a nice area they did not believe that he did not have a colour TV. The amount of letters and threatening correspondence he received was unbelievable. Now he has moved into a smaller flat as he has got increasingly elderly, but they still harass him with letters not believing that he doesn't have a TV. All very stressful for him.

There are some people who are scared to cancel their licence and yet they don't watch TV. Thanks Jon for all of your videos. I cancelled mine last year having not watched TV in the proceeding 3 months and I really do not miss it. PS I really don't like that Mr Funt, he is a smarmy ****.

Capita also get information from some utility meter firms who cooperate with meter readers when they are in your property reading your utility meters and providing information to TV licensing

Another video I saw from a barrister suggested the best plan was rather say nothing - ask them to leave and then close the door. If you ask them to leave and they don't then they're trespassing.
