Only just started with watercolours, found your channel, loved it, and got heartbroken that your Patreon is now closed and those tutorials are inaccessible... Hope you're doing ok, and just took a long break, your videos are super good and I wish I get to see more of your tutorials one day... will keep myself subscribed and with the bell rung to ensure I find you if you do come back :)

Also those paints flow soooo beautifully. Watching them flow into the clouds from the bodice sold me on them, and now I want to paint with them

The mist is so lovely! Wet on wet can always be scary. Sometimes I find myself procrastinating when I need to add a big wash of color to a painting because I don’t know how it will turn out and I don’t want to ruin everything.

You and me both! It’s always the part where I stall and am too afraid to continue 🙈 the best advice I have for this is to just go for it, if you have to start again it’s frustrating but you will learn a lot so it’s all useful 🖤🖤

Omg James, the way you did the clouds were so freaking amazing!! I might pick up that technique soon. Seems comfortable because it's as though you were playing with the water and paint. Also, the way you did the skintone is just splendid. I love the colors you used. And I don't know if you ever read this but, you are my biggest inspiration right now. Everytime you upload new content on YT & IG, I get very excited and then it inspires me to paint and improve! 💖 Thank you so much!

Very beautiful, delicate work! I loved this piece. I often use wet o wet tu simulate distant trees and branches, or to try to emulate an out of focus background, but I definitely need more practice. I struggle with judging when the paper is wet enough and I often end up with puddles hehehe.

It’s a struggle isn’t it! To avoid puddles do you stretch your paper with clean water before you paint? It should help prevent buckling and therefore pooling 🤗 it’s a great technique for the things you described and I never use it enough (something I’m trying to change) 🖤

Thank you! I used to make women’s clothing and was always so inspired by something Alexander McQueen said about his clothes: “It's almost like putting armor on a woman. It's a very psychological way of dressing.” That’s how I like to paint women too 🖤

Hey I just found your channel exploring mixing skin tones, and just wanted to let you know your tutorials were so clear and helpful. Subsequently I also watched extra videos to see how you actually applied the tones to portrait painting, and I love how glowing her skin looks. Keep up the good work and I will look out for your videos in the future 👍👍 Oh and yes for Qor video. I might consider to get primary colours for skin tone as you said they are quite staining to layer 😍 Like I need any more paints in my overcrowded palette 🤣

What an amazing painting! I really love your technique and your colour choices, you are really talented! P.S: I just wanted to say to people that see this and they think about buying QoR watercolours...please don't. They test on animals (and they don't even aim to stop). Art should be done without animals suffering because of it, let alone when they are so many brands that don't do this. Thank you so much.

The palette is indeed a plate 😅 they’re cheaper than ceramic palettes for artists so while it seems extra it’s economical haha 🖤
