In SS13 there's a rule for clowns. A Bad Clown is Annoying. A Good Clown is Funny. A Great Clown is Terror Incarnate.

Sseth has origins video that explains his backstory, but most people are too cowardly to react to it. The man behind the persona is actually highly experienced cancer researcher that grew tired of the corrupt and depressing nature of cancer research and now makes funny videos on the internet. To frilly understand him here is a short story. A new streaming platform paid him to do some streams. Instead of funny video game stream he instead gave a lecture on theoretical cancer treatments. Nobody has offered him money to go to their platform since then.
@dekhain32842 жыл бұрын
Fun fact about that stream: He also mentioned some dietary stuff that helps lower the odds of cancer. If I remember correctly, he also mentioned that these are easily available but not widespread due to the profitability of cancer treatment solutions offered by medical research companies.

I can remember when I was playing as a doctor, me and a random other doctor started vibing with each other, and took on a difficult task: To heal a guy missing several limbs and who's also mentally impaired due to deathly injuries and later getting cloned. We spent the whole round fixing the guy up, reattached the missing limbs he very conveniently brought with him, and attaching robot prosthetics on those he didn't bring. Then, we got to operate on the brain, and slowly, bit by bit, we could start making out what he was saying (being mentally impaired is... interesting in this game XD). We also had one amazed guy in the audience cheering us on. After a few hours, we had done it. Guy was fixed, cheering and congratulations all around between the 4 of us. Then we open the door to go outside. There's blood symbols and strange creatures all around. Turns out while we were preoccupied with performing medicinal miracles, the cultists had summoned their evil god and took over the station. We all died within 5 mins :) 10/10, would medicine again.
@jonmcnamara2 жыл бұрын
A blob spawned in engineering and quickly killed and ate all of engineering. The rest of the station didn't notice. The blob slowly spread through all of engineering biding its time. Eventually (since the generator was unmanned) the station started experiencing blackouts, and the captain; pissed that engineering was ignoring him (having died 40minutes previous) ordered security to arrest the department. The horror the captain, security, and nearby people had when they pried open the doors to see ALL of engineering consumed and waves of the blob pouring out.. Hilarious.

SS13 is one of those amazing projects that was actually helped by the community. It is open-source, so you can look at the ENTIRE code that makes the game run whenever you want. You can offer PRs or "Pull-Requests" to pull code you've made, and add it to the game. This has spawned quite a few servers with the same base code that has been modified over the past few years into playstyles different people enjoy. The "Xenomorphs on mining station" clip was from CM-ss13 or Colonial Marines, where you can play as a marine or xenomorph based on the alien franchise. One of the best games ive ever played, and god one of the worst issues it has is there is TOO MUCH STUFF. So much to learn, so many things to poke around with, and its made by a bunch of nerds so theres a ton of combining interactions and spaghetti code. (Also unfortunately you cant give people pizza limbs)

Imo the sheer amount of content and mechanics really makes being new to the game fun as hell. When you actually have to ask an atmos technician for their help on fixing atmos in an area, because they know how to do it while you don't. It makes it much more immersive when you're not limited by your character's knowledge, but your own knowledge. Especially becoming proficient at a job, moving to another to get good at that, then eventually you know every job and now newbies are asking YOU to help them fix atmos. I always like teaching newbies too, because I've been that newbie and the coolest players were the ones who slowed down to help me learn something.

Sseth has a lot of power when it comes to reviewing small and unknown games. HIs Starsector review crashed the dev's download making it impossible for people to actually download and play the game. What did the devs do? They directly gave Sseth a dowload link for him to link in his video description. The same video where he told his viewers to download the game and use his own activation code. Basically telling his viewers to pirate the game. The devs still haven't patched this, as it's still possible to use his code.

Heck, according to SquareEnix they don't even understand why anyone would do community content without the want for making a ton of money out of it. And then you have SS13, perfect example.

KZfaq brought me here, but being someone who frequently plays ss13 himself and has seen Sseths video before, i was curious about the reaction to both the game and the humor. Glad you had fun with the chaotic sneakpeek into whats possible and that's only scratching the surface really. It's a really fun game/platform that even while flawed thrives because of the vast amount of stuff you can do. Anything from having a chill time and making buddies in any of the really quite welcoming communities or diving into a more action and combat orientated server, most of which even run on a different branch of code and have their own unique twists on things. As stated, learning it takes a while and but i've not regretted a single moment with all the stupidly crazy things I experienced, the thrill of planned out murder plots happening onboard that turn things into a 4d chess game or the wholesomeness of joining a rp server, building a bar in an abandoned part of the maintenance tunnels and ending up having most of the crew there enjoying themselves while making some new friends to spend future rounds with.

My favourite thing to do in this game is Botany. You can grow and genetically splice/alter plants into whatever you want. So, a friend of mine taught me a few tricks, one of which involves splicing bananas and melons until they mutate into incindiary melons, then splicing their genes into something small and easy to break. Like, maybe a tomato. Then, we mass produce these tomatoes and fill dozens of bags full of stacks of tomatoes. A cool thing you can do, is if you have a lighter, you can turn it on and throw it. So I'd pick up my backs of tomatoes, stuff a couple lighters in my pocket, throw a bag of tomatoes into a department, then throw a lit lighter onto the bag. Now, explosive tomatoes dont individually have a strong explosion. But when multiple stacks of them all blow up at the same time... well, the results were very entertaining! We'd usually get away with a few bombings before the station collapses onto itself in chaos.
@bthsr7113 Жыл бұрын
I've heard rumor that the game was originally based on a scientific simulation program for atmospheric mixes and distribution, possibly among other things. Can't confirm, but it would explain a lot. Also you can throttle some station engines/reactors up to 25 exawatts of output.

is Space Station 13 on steam?
@mosesracal67584 ай бұрын
Theres a community remake of the original SS13 on steam now called SpaceStation 14 for Unity. Its still behind what the original can do but it does offer a lot more graphical fidelity and smoother animations. Not all of the community has switched however and most still play the original - mostly because the code that SS14 is based on is on a mainstream server that players can be divisive on especially with its constant tweaking of mechanics. The original is on a client called BYOND and is honestly a blast from the past, like 2008 past. Its an easy 10mb download and after creating an account, you can find the servers there. Personally, if you really want to get down to it - play the original. The fact is that the original just cant be beat when it comes to complexity as it has been worked on continuously for decades now; but it aint too bad to try SS14 on Steam. I just find it to be quickly boring (especially as a veteran) since it is limited compared to the original but dont get me wrong, its still plenty of content for a newcomer to the series.
