Thanks for the video, I just ground out my channel and getting ready to install the counter flashing. I like this method way better than the normal flaps that come out of the grout lines method. It just makes sense to have a continuous piece instead of many flaps, too many points of failure.

Excellent work. I am amazed that you're able to refrain from cussing while working. I find that cuss words help me throughout the day! I'm dealing with a chimney leak on a flat tile patio cover approximately 2 in 12 slope. I peeled up the tile and felt to fix some damaged V rustic and I thought I papered and flashed it right. I apparently did not. I'm a Carpenter, not a roofer so I probably made a few mistakes that led to my leaks. It leaked before and leaks again just not as much. Cutting through the brick (For the counterflashing) was an idea that I had but dismissed due to thinking that it would weaken the chimney. Maybe I should REthink the idea. Thanks again.

Do it with lead flashing. Infinitely easier, faster, form fits for better seals, looks better. Don’t have to have all these tools on the roof making a mess with cuts everywhere and trash. Can bend it easily with your hands. Don’t have to hack up the chimney bricks by cutting through them.

This is an absolutely amazing job. The craftsmanship is Stellar. Im a novice roofer and noticed the flashing along the brick is actually notched into the brick in places and not the mortar joint. I assume this is acceptable as long as its secured and caulked. Its a honest question. Thank you for the attention to detail and amazing craftsmanship

Thanks for sharing this! I just checked our chimney as its seeping water and the previous counter flashing actually has a 45 degree bend outwards at the top. (?!) Loads of sealant in an attempt to seal the gap. I think a previous owner DIY'd it. Am going to have to pull it off and redo it.

Question. Do aluminum rivets have any use in roof flashing? Maybe to keep the flashing more tightly secured? Against high winds or if water leeches in the flashing somehow and freezes, expands and causes the sealant to crack or separate? Maybe I'm just over or under thinking things. And great job on the roof btw!

Though I worked roofing years ago, I'm not a roofer. I'm a designer and I want to understand roofing better to not give them some screwed up detail in the framing or finish to try to flash. Always something to learn or learn better. So I like any demonstration or mock up you want to do. I didn't see the step flashing video or get a good look at it on this one. What's the spec on this flashing material? How about brick repair and sealing as part of roof repair--do you see water from cracks or moisture in the brick causing a problem in an otherwise good flashing repair?

Even in the work van between calls, it's comfortable in my opinion and people don't mess with you when your wearing knee pads😆 They just know your about business and don't FA.
