My experience with "trailer " tires was i never wore one out. They all self destructed before they wore out. No matter the brand or origin. I began buying all truck tires. Then i actually wore them out and got the full life out of them. Thanks for sharing

In my experience I have also found that having an 8 ply or higher tire has made a huge difference in safety. I personally have 12 ply tires which some may say is over kill but I have over 50,000 miles without any problems what so ever. I have to remember that it's my family riding on those tires. Most fatalities in RV's: Number 1 cause tire blowouts. Number 2 cause tired drivers. So it's definitely preventable.

I changed to Michelin LT tires and upgraded to 16" rims soon after i saw your first tire video. I had experienced 3 major tire failures prior to that upgrade and, like you, have not had any tire related problems since. Very good video and thank you for putting good information "out there" for all to see.

The fact that Airstream now offers them as an upgrade speaks volumes. This is definitely a wise choice as opposed to nail biting and finger crossing to save a few bucks. Kudos on a nicely made video and the drone B roll too👍

You are so right, they have done their homework. I have less than 5000 miles on my trailer and have gone through 2 sets of tires (partially due to age, but mostly due to this exact issue). The original tires on the trailer, one blew off the tred and did damage to the undercarriage. I did a lot of research to avoid that brand. I wanted to go with Maxxis tires, but nobody locally had any in stock and Maxxis production was shut down. I found a brand called Green Balls (seriously, that's the brand) that was actually reviewed pretty good. We got about 2000 miles on them and after a west coast trip, we parked it at home to find one tire worn down past the belt. Thinking the axles were bad out of alignment we took it into a trailer repair shop to align them. They said they were in line. But said my problem was that the 6 ply tires being put on them were too light of duty for our trailer. Being 15 inch rimes they had a brand of 10 ply tires they have put on. So far so good but I really haven't pushed them very hard yet. And yes, trailer tires are indeed rated at a top speed of 65 MPH, they are spot on correct with that fact. I didn't know you could swap out the 15 inch rims with 16 inch ones. I may look into that on my next trailer.

I owned a 27' 5th wheel in the early 90's and blew out all 4 Marathon tires within 3 years. Went with the 8 ply vs 6 and never had a problem after the switch.

Don't have a TT but a few equipment trailers. After a few blowouts I switched to LT's. I have noticed a few things like. Better ride longevity and no more blowouts.

I’m a little over a month into our first travel trailer and had already planned to replace the tires fairly soon. I spent 30 years towing boats and went thru ST tires at the rate of 1 -2 per year. They always flew apart, never just went flat. One year in the middle of nowhere, I blew a tire and the guy at the tire place recommended that I stop putting “that junk” on the trailer and use either a passenger car tire or an LT tire. I went with passenger car tires and never had another blowout. Excellent advice. I have learned a lot from you Loloho. The tutorial on setting up and tearing down was especially useful. We are getting ready for our 3rd weekend trip soon, and are really looking forward to it. Thanks again for a great channel.

Running Goodyear Endurance. Pulled the Trailer King tires off before first trip. Endurance are the only ST tire made in the US and never have had a problem. Peace of mind was well worth the money

We learned on our first toy hauler (triple axle) to switch to LT's and have never once had an issue on any of our trailers since. We even switched to LT's on our boat trailer for the same reasons you outlined here.

We had four failures of Goodyear Marathons. Our spare and one on the trailer just blew up sitting in our driveway. The other two failures were belt failures which thankfully did not result in trailer damage. China Bombs is a very accurate description of those tires.

I've had a Marathons on two trailers, they were the older ones when they were still made in the U.S. I never had any issues. The Nash 17k RV featured in some of my videos had Marathons that were made in China. I pulled them off and went with Goodyear Endurance ST tires last week.

THANKS, good info. I did an in depth study on trailer tires in 2017 before a trip to Alaska. Heard/ read about ALL the pros & cons on tires. Wound up with Maxxis 8008 series. It has been a positive experience for us. Speed rating "Q" (100Mph). Even spoke with one of their engineers. "Yes rated to 100 MPH, but would not suggest it." he said. We're on our second set of Maxxis & still have peace of mind.

Changed our horse trailer to 10 ply LT tires in the early ‘90s. They work great!

After hearing about others’ experiences with the Goodyear’s, I switched to the Michelin’s. Unfortunately, because my Airstream is only 19 feet, I couldn’t go with the larger tire, so I stuck with the 15 inch. Knock on wood, they have done me well travelling across the continent and into the deep south. Glad to hear yours are working well for you.

We run LT tires on our hay trailer ( worn take off tires from my farm truck actually) and they have worked very well. We also have a skid loader trailer that came with China tires... never had a blow out but did have 2 of them slip belts and were way worse tweaked than yours was! And we put Hankook F19 trailer tires on after having a set on a livestock trailer that has went all over the Midwest and were still half tread after 12 years of pretty good use and sit out all year.

Made exactly the same change on our Classic 30 Airstream about four years ago after bad experiences with ST tires. Best mod we made on our trailer! We also used TPMS in order to know and react to the slightest indication of a leak. Tires were still on and in great shape last year when we traded in our truck and trailer on a new Class B Pleasure-Way motorhome!

My wife & I sold equipment trailers for 13 years. Some where around '01 or '02, trailer manufacturers went away from the LT to ST's. We had a lot of upset contractors. They liked the fact, that the tires they used on their trucks, they could use on their trailers. It always Goodyear & the most common size was the LT 235/85R16 Load range E. I might not be remembering correctly, but I think the capacity at maximum pressure was 3600lbs @80psi.

The extra expense for rims you mention is small compared to the bill the blown tire can cause. A friend of ours blew one out on I-5 in California on their 5 wheel, the bill was $6,000. as it took out the floor above which was their kitchen and littering the highway with all their cooking gear.

We have a 40 ft diesel pusher and switched from RV tires to semi-truck tires six years ago. Can get at any truck stop when traveling. Have had no problems

Bought our used 2013 Classic Limited 27FB back in June 2017 and immediately took it to Vinnie's Airstream Repair and had the wheels switched to the 16" and had the Michelin LT tires put on the as well. We have traveled without any issues to date and feel very comfortable traveling the highways.

We thought about going LT, but we went with US made Goodyear Endurance STs instead, so far so good, they've generally had good reviews so far, unlike the Chinese Marathons. And the Endurance are rated to 87mph unlike most other STs.

This winter while down in Florida we put Goodyear Endurance tires on our trailer. We've only put about 1200 miles on them but so far so good.

Mine came with Castle Rock tires. Before my first mile, I swapped to Goodyear Endurance tires. Side by side comparison was a HUGE difference! I’ve went cross country and check tires, rims, and hubs at every stop. Great at heat dissipation!!!

I always run a load range higher than factory spec on any of my trailers. First thing I noticed with higher load rating tires is how much cooler the tires run.

@@hobbes1069 Yeah that sucks. I don't want to jinx myself but luckily I have never had a problem. I have on several occasions hauled my jeep on my car trailer from MN to FL 1800+ miles one way which came with load C tires from the factory. Its a light duty car hauler @ 7000lb total weight. Thankfully I never had a blowout with the load C tires but it always bothered me with the side wall flex and how hot the tires would get. Everytime I pull over or stop to get gas, the 1st thing I do is go back and put my hand on the hubs to check for heat and thats when I noticed the tires being very warm. So I moved up to a load D tire and the sidewall flex and tire temp was much improved. Now not to say a blowout couldn't occur because surely we are all at the mercy of random road debris that can take a tire out right quick. I been lucky I guess. Same thing though with my 6x12 enclosed trailer and when I had my 29ft Keystone Springdale TT. They came factory with load C tires. Same experience with sidewall flex and running at higher temps. Thankfully no blowouts but I switched them asap to load D's. Safe travels to all.

Same experience years ago with the GoodYear Marathon ST tires !!! Bought a brand new Logan 3 horse trailer, not a cheap trailer, and within a month a flat tire !!! With in a year 4 flats, 3 were rock puncture between the tread ribs and one was a screw !!! We did a lot of running on gravel roads, so this was not working !!! Replaced all 5 tires with a higher load range and larger LT tire, and I do believe they were 15 " tires......Never had another flat tire on that trailer and literally wore them out !!!! People have to remember back in time ALL trailers of any size used a LT tire !!! There were NO ST failure prone "special" tires! The horse trailer previously had LT tires from the factory and I never had a flat !!! Then some smart ass engineer came along with a "better" idea !!!! Yeah right.....to sell more tires.!!!!! Cheap tires are more expensive in the long run of down time, interupted travel times and damage !!!! Good show you are right on and I am surprised with all the problems with these tires they are still being used !!!!

Great tips! I had a blow out on my Casita Travel trailer a few years back on the interstate. It was an interesting experience. Once my spare went on, I felt naked. By the time we hit Bozeman, I had to stop and get another spare. I never thought about using light truck tires on my RV. The next time I have to switch tires, I am going to seriously consider going to them.

THANK YOU!!! This is the video I needed to see. Our rig has ST235/80R 16 tires and I told my wife our first upgrade would be the tires. I've seen too many videos of tire blow outs from cheap tires and I'd rather pay now for 4 tires than pay later for the potential damage a blow out can do to our home. Thanks for the great advice! Ck out Sailun or Gladiator tire. Both have a 14 ply rating. They come in 235/85 16". Very heavy duty.

I dumped the china bombs that came with my trailer after 1 1/2 years as the steel belt was showing between the tread..which there was a lot left. Went with Goodyear Endurance and have good luck so far. The good folks at Discount Tire in Phoenix will do a thorough check on them when I ask. I have seen the damage a blow-out can do and it's not something I ever want to happen. I will look into LT next time around as I already have 16" rims. Thanks for another fine presentation.

I went from Marathons to Endurance over a year ago and have better than 10K on them. Only issue has been one valve leak. I highly recommend getting a TPMS system to monitor tire status. That was what warned me about the leaking tire valve.

A very familiar site with a totally disintegrated Goodyear Marathon, right rear tire on our Montana several years ago. Changed it myself and realized the spare was under inflated. We were able to get air in the spare, bought a new tire and proceeded on our trip. The following return trip the next year to Florida the right front tire blew, once again changed it myself. It was a Tire Kingdom tire that I had replaced two years before because of excessive wear on the Goodyear Marathon that was on the front. All tires were E rated and I have replaced all four tires with G rated tires. The new G rated tires are 14 ply rated and have held up well so far. Confidence in your tires makes for easier traveling.

Great idea to let people know about the tire issues. Goodyear is not the only that have major issues since most trailer tires are produced in China. In late 2015, the wife and I decided to get a brand new 33' fifth wheel that we fell in love with when we started looking for a new camper ( slight upgrade going from a pop-up ). In 2018, we had our first blow out one hour into our two hour trip ( approx. 2000 on the tires over the 3 seasons used, ans yes we cover the tires when not in use or winter storage months) . I was able to change it out with our spare and proceed to our destination. On the way home, a second blow out 45 minutes into the return trip. Had to drop the trailer in an emergency turn around, and run all the way home to get a rim and tire from my cousin. 30 minutes from home, blowout number three. Again, my cousin and brother were able to come to the rescue with an additional tire. We have been told by people with a toy hauler that we should upgrade to the G rated tires that are typically used on the motor homes ( have E now ). They had one tire go through the floor in the 33' they had at the time. We ended up just putting a different brand of tire on to finish up the season, but not sure we will make out any better. Within the next year or so, we intend to spend the $1200 - $1500 to upgrade tires ( and rims if necessary ). Others have told us to just go a ply rating up ( F ). Not sure if we still could have the possibility of a blow out from poor construction or heat. Would appreciate any feedback to help us make a decision including suggested brands.

As many have stated, now that you have 16" wheels, I suggest the Sailun S637 All Steel G Rated tires. They are built like tanks and made for SEMI and Gooseneck Trailers

China bombs just like every other junk trailer tire. American made all steel constructed tires are available if that's what you need. Chinese tires are garbage no matter what the name is on them.

I believe Sailun tires are made in China. The Goodyear Endurance tires are made in USA, I have them on my 5th wheel with no issues. I would not trust anything made in China.

Changed from marathons to mitch LTX... love 'em... no problems since changing just like you found... I only had 300 miles on the goodyears... and already had a bubble in the tread... thump thump thump.. got so bad you could feel it in the PU TV... and I remember'd what vinnie and you all said.. and so looking at the TV tires manufacture.. we stopped in and had both the tires and rims changed at the same time... LOVE IT... thanks for the video but their are some who still were not convinced that the marathons are better... but.. we saw the light and got ours changed over.. and so glad we did...

We bought our rig used (18mo old) and the 4 tires were all date coded under 2 yrs old and had good tread and none of the signs of delamination. That said, 20 miles down the road and boom! One down. Changed the tire and returned to dealer. He swapped it out and we hit the road again. 15 miles down the road, boom! Called dealer and he sent out not only a replacement, but 2 more to replace them all. These were all still Chinese cheap ST tires, but they got us home. I did some research and replaced them all with Sailun S637 (still Chinese) G load rated ST tires. I am incredibly happy with them. They run cooler than the tires on my truck. They flex less with the very beefy sidewalls. Rated for 75mph but I still stick to 65 when travelling.

I keep hearing Saluin tires (rated..?) are awesome. Thick, heavy duty sidewalls, etc. I'll be purchasing a 5'ver soon. You bet, the first thing before even leaving the lot will be tire inspection.

These are China bombs. They might have a good reputation but i would not use any Chinese tires on a travel trailer. On a utility trailer with steel fenders these might be an option, but if you want all steel tires, there are the michelin sps rib tires that are American made. You are taking a chance with any Chinese tire on a travel trailer.

Been running LT's on my trailers for many years. I run 70 psi in them and the trailer pulls much easier than trailers I've bought that had ST's. Steel valve stems are a must too.

Check what's being said about load ratings for LT versus ST, though. ST tires are specifically designed with thicker side walls than LT tires (in general...obviously, need to start with a good tire).

@@Pilot545 Also check the LOAD RATING and go as high as you can with as many plies as possible and as large as possible !!!! It is better to have the capacity and not need it than to need the capacity and not have it !!!! Your trailer should be weighed LOADED as you use it to be sure !!! Trailers and campers seem to gain weight very easily !!!

We had trouble with our Marathon Tires. Had a blow out luckily close to a big enough city, tire had low mileage. We changed all 4 tires with Goodyear Endurance. We drive a 5th wheel. We always check the tires at each fuel fill up, and before leaving camp. Have been happy 2 years now, with the Endurance.

Glad to see you went to a better tire. Last year we bought 4 new Goodyear Endurance tires. According to Goodyear site they are made in America, have an E load range and an N speed rating (that is a 10 ply and 87 mph speed rating). Sadly we have only been able to travel about 1000 miles since installed but they feel very stable. I will try to get back if we are able to get more miles this summer.

I bought a Hercules tire for a spare, and the dealer insisted it was a U.S.A. made tire. It said “made in China” right on it. I learned to read the tire, not believe the dealer

Installed new China tires but upgraded to heavier duty (500 lbs more capacity each tire.) Was broken down in Texas, in the clutches of Camping World at the time and was short on cash. Will see how well they do. So far so good (about 3,000 miles.) Good idea about road service contract!

Our '05 Montana 5th came with LT 16" tires from the factory. 5th GVW was 12'100#. Finally changed them out in '13 because they were worn out. They spare was never down in the 12 years we owned the 5th.

I feel compelled to add my 2 cents. My son and I haul a few trailers, some with GVWs over 12 tons. Most of our loads are 5 ton and smaller. It has been our experience that radial tires don't hold up as well as bias ply. Last year I hauled my new 7k lb. camper about 1400 miles before one of the standard tires failed. Once again, another radial failure. I decided then and there to do some homework on trailer tires. I asked a few tire shop "working people" NOT salespeople what their experience has been. They noticed the same as I had. Next I went to the most experienced trailer rental outfit I could find. U-HAUL. I looked at their trailer tires. Not a radial to be found on the lot. I noted the tire manufacturer and type of tire. I bought 6 tires. 4 for the Camper and 2 for spares. We put about 4000 trouble free miles on those tires this year and they have climbed and clipped more curbs than I want to admit to. I didn't want to give the tire manufacturer's name because there was more than 1 at that U-HAUL center and I just picked the one most numerus. Oh, did I say I bent a few rims? Still no flats or blowouts. We have some serious potholes here in New England and alloy wheels are not a good choice for truck or trailer. I carry a 3lb hammer to knock the rims back in shape, then check them for runout. I took the pretty alloy rims off my F350 dually for this reason and run stainless wheel covers. I have AAA, too, and they are there if I need them, but I would rather just get the free maps and "trip ticks". You two give some of the best advise for campers on KZfaq. I'm a boater turned camper and you have taught and saved me plenty. Thanks and God bless.

28cruzin I’ve had some bad experiences with bias tires on my bass boat. The issues might relate to other things than choice of tire, but I’m curious. My rig is under 2000#. Would you recommend sticking with ST bias tires? What about ST radials?

@@PCAPastorTrav When I worked at an inland boat dealer, back in the late 80s, I don't recall any tire issues. Of course most people go to tire stores for a repair anyway. The tires that come on most trailers are usually a lower quality to save costs. I have also found that on light trailers, under 3k gvw, evan passenger car tires of a correct load rating are superior to trailer tires. The issue I have with radial trailer tires is sidewall thickness. Curbs raise hell with sidewalls. Construction trailers and any long trailer find themselves climbing and rubbing curbs often. The failure I most often have seen is in the side wall. Tires designed for light trucks {LT} seem to hold up way better than radial trailer tires especially at sustained highway speeds. I'm not a tire expert, I can only relate my experiences. By the way always balance trailer tires. It is not done just to smooth the ride. When tires wobble or bounce due to out of balance they wear faster, and worse, they create more heat from flexing and squirming and fail sooner. Sorry for the long winded answer, but tire safety is an important subject. Be well.

@@28cruzin I have had the same experience, I have used Kenda Load Star bias tires on my boat trailer for 18 years and never had a failure. I am currently running the 225/75-15 Load Range D bias tire rated for 2540 lbs @ 65 psi.

Sailun Trailer tires are by far the best tires I have ever had. My wife and I are on our 2nd fifth wheel our latest being a triple axle toy-hauler. We have had blow outs issue in the past and I have pulled many different style trailers, and the Sailun tires are build like a semi trailer tire. If you ever have an issue out on the road and you can’t find a LT you like I highly recommend the Sailun. Y’all have a great channel we really enjoy watching.

Tires are very important. I think you hit it on the head with speed rating. Also, I always recommend ppl try to get to a ramp or other pull-off with a flat. The service ppl will be able to get it up in the air to swap tires. It is really dangerous to sit on the side of the freeway. Wheels are cheap compared to what can be lost if you get hit sitting still.

You know that all tires are speed rated, including trailer tires. So if you were driving more then 72mph with a trailer tire you’re going to have blow out.

I had stock Marathons on my 30 foot trailer and was leaving for Alaska in 2 days. My next door neighbor, who just came back from a Utah trip, came over and looked at my tires. He told me two of his tires delaminated on his trailer during his trip. I got my tires changed that day to the 10 ply Good Year Endurance which has good reviews and has been out about 3 or 4 years. Much stiffer sidewalls and heavier tire. They worked great on my 4200 mile Alaska trip. I also run the Micheline 10 ply Defender LTX M&S tires on my Tundra and have for years. Awesome tires. BTW the Micheline Defender LTX tires come in either 4 or 10 ply. 4 plies work well for light trucks and SUV's but get the 10 ply tires if you are towing.

We have a 2006 Wolf pack WP 30 TT toyhauler. We had 2 blowouts with GY Marathons . 4 years ago I switched to BF Goodrich Commercial TAs LT 245-75-16 .. it is like night and day the difference it made towing. It eliminated tracking and sway completely and it sits much higher. Of course I had to adjust my hitch height by an inch or so to relevel but all for the better. AND in 4 years and hauling 1000s of miles loaded heavy with 2 CanAm outlader ATVs and 109 gallons of fresh water weighing in around 12,000lbs not 1 blow out. I absolutely believe proper sizing and weight capacity LT tires are the way to go for heavy long haul towing.

LOLOHO, has been a great resource for my wife and me as we've recently retired and are using our travel trailer to see our country. Trailer tires can be an aggravation for sure. There are two things I've learned about trailer tires from 30 plus years of owning and towing various kinds of trailers. The first is manufacturers put on the lowest rated tire to carry the trailer weight. For example our travel trailer came with Load Range C tires. Some simple math told me that the original tires just barely met the load rating of the trailer. Add heat and some wear and the tires fail. Better to look at load range and if possible go up in load range on trailer tires before increasing wheel diameter. That saves the expense of new wheels. Increasing diameter without increasing load range likely won't change the chances of premature failure. The second thing I learned the hard way. Make sure to have the trailer axles aligned periodically or at the first sign of uneven wear. We are from the east coast and traveled to California when I noticed some severe wear on the rear tires of the trailer. Turned out to be a bent axle, an alignment shop got everything back into specs but the trailer required two new tires on the rear axle. The front axle was only slightly out of alignment but the rear axle was badly out of alignment. The alignment shop suggested it came from the factory that way. Our trip home produced no noticeable uneven wear. Misalignment will cause premature wear and will increase heat in the tire both of which cause premature failure.

I also had Goodyear tires on my rig. On a hot day I made it home and just happened to look at my trailer tires. One was coming apart. I use a different brand now. And, I upgraded the load range. No problems with tires since. Watch your tire pressures. I usually inflate to the maximum pressure shown on the sidewalls. Having worked at a shop that also sold trailer tires, I have seen more failures due to underinflation - you know, the zig-zagged sidewalls. All ST means is Special Trailer. That means extra ultraviolet inhibitors in the rubber compound. The thinking is that trailers sit outside all the time. Cover your tires if your rig sits outside.

Thanks for this video, I hope many people with travel trailers, and even some small motorized units see your video. I spent 20+ years doing repair claims for Recreational Vehicles and I can attest to the many $'s of physical damage to trailers because of those tires. As was mentioned by another Frank there is a class action against Goodyear ,the only thing I can say is STAY Safe do not try to save money by risking your life with a known dangerous product regardless of the outcome of the suit. BRAVO for you and thanks again for the post.

i just looked at the Endurance tires on my new lance and they say "Made in USA" on the sidewall. Based upon what I have read I will keep them. If they were Marathon's they would be gone already.

Our 2018 trailer came with 16” Goodyear Endurance tires. So far so good. Seems the Endurance is an upgrade from the Marathon series. Will be switching to Michelin LT’s when the time comes!

From what I have read and heard, you have the best ST tire with the Goodyear Endurance tires. From my research, some (like e-trailer.com) recommend against LT tires as their sidewalls aren't as thick as ST tires (in general). Which, makes sense because the load rating for a light truck is nowhere NEAR the loads of a fully loaded travel trailer. I was thinking of switching to an LT, too, until I read that and did more research. Seems like some on here are making them work, but I think I'll stick with something made for travel trailers. I will likely switch to the Goodyear Endurance in the very near future.

@@Pilot545 The key is to buy a tire with the capacity to handle the load you are hauling , no matter what it is on !!! Do you really think a tire carrying 7,000# knows it is under a trailer or a truck ??? Of course not !!! Weigh your trailer loaded and but the heaviest, largest tire that will fit with extra load carrying and you will be OK !!! For many many years trailers were all equipted with LT tires as there were NO "ST"...chinese bombs available !!! DUUUH!!!!!

Keep the Goodyears! They are best st tires available. I used truck tires for years but dedicated trailer tires are stiffer and rated for more weight. They are still rated for 87 mph as well. The only LT tire I'd consider is the all steel constructed michelin xps rib if I couldn't use the Goodyear endurance tires.

@@Pilot545 Most of the failures are not sidewalls it appears since the tread simply peels right off the center of the carcass. Could be wrong but the problems seem to stem from under rated tire specs. Folks buy tires in spec, the OEM wheels, correct tire pressures etc. yet they are losing tires after tire while driving straight down the highway. Apparently the industry for trailers, tires, wheels, axles etc. need to be reviewed for flawed marketing? 8 ply or higher tires seems to fix the problems or products made in the USA which isn't easy to find and expensive.

Not just a RV problem. This subject of ST vs LT has been a topic of conversation with my offroad friends who haul their 4x4's long distances. My 20' car hauler came with those Goodyear Marathons. The thread wore off that set of ST's just after a few trips to CO from TX. My Jeep guy suggested switching to the LT tires. He mounted a set and balanced them as well. They don't heat up like the ST's did, the thread wear is very even, and the trailer seems to ride much smoother. Good Video!

For a long time Goodyear Marathons were standard on bass boat trailers until they switched the manufacturing to China. We had the same sort of problems that you had. A few years ago Goodyear came out with the Endurance tire which is a major improvement. I was pleased when we bought our new Jayco travel trailer that they are standard equipment. We are a lot more confident on the road.

Just watched your video and thought it was great. I have a 20ft trailer and have ST tires. I will be changing over this fall when I pull the trailer out of storage for the fall/winter hunting season. A lot of the gang I run with pull big 3 axle toy boxes and run LT's on them because with of the weight they carry they have had problems with side wall failure with ST tires. I really makes good sense when you consider how long a tire lasts on your truck compared to your trailer running ST's. Thanks for great video's and information you guy are great.

I had Michelin 15” LTX MS2 for about 5 1/2 years on my Airstream before the sidewalls started ceracking. I couldn’t afford the 16” setup so had Goodyear Endurence tires last Septmber. So far so good and we full time. I also use a TPMS system on my trailer tires.

Great write up about tires. We are the airstream owners used one set of Goodyear Maraton and had one blow up. A new set is the Marathon Endurance. One suggestion to check your insurance coverage before switching to LT type tires on tour TT.

Went through 5 blowouts/delaminations 2001-02 on our StarCraft Starlite TT (Carl***e tires...I've leave it at that) in the early 2000s. Finally had enough, and ended up putting Michelin automotive tires on, and never had a problem again until we sold it in 2006. First thing we did when we purchased another TT (RPod 180) recently was to switch the China bomb tires to Goodyear Endurance.

Get out and feel your tires (both trailer and tow vehicle) each time you stop for gas, snacks, ect. If one has tread notably hotter than the rest it's damaged, change it BEFORE you blow out. This is why you see more blowouts in hot weather, hot roads make it even more obvious where you probably can't even keep your hand on the tire for more than a couple seconds. You can prevent alot of roadside emergencies and trailer damage this way.

Get a laser infrared thermometer. You will get accurate temperatures without the dirt transfer to your hands. A great tool with many uses. My motto, If don't want to repurchase things twice or more. Don't buy things that say "Made In China". Those 3 words = these 3 words. "Guaranteed To Fail".

We run the same wheels and tires on our trailer as our 1 ton truck! They are more expensive but I trust them completely. Also its easier to have 2 spares we can mount on any of the other 10 positions!

We had some cheap Castle Rock tires out of China on our trailer from Forest River when we bought our Apex Nano. We used them for the first year on smaller distance trips, but just last week I upgraded to the Goodyear Endurance trailer tires for piece of mind on our longer trips this year. Didn't even know Goodyear had a Marathon trailer tire. I went straight to the best they had. The USA made Endurance. They are load range E (our stock ones were D) and they are rated for up to 87 MPH.

The Goodyear Endurance ST tire has more belts, overlay and much heavier sidewalls than a LT tire. They are also made in the USA.

I’ve always been very pleased with the Liberator tires on all my trucks. I buy them from Walmart. They are made by Michelin and the size is LT235/75/15 I am very interested in trying them on our travel trailer.

I went through 6 marathons on my single axle boat trailer with my boat trailer from 2001 to 2006. My new Searay in 2006 had a double axle with Marathons and blew all 4 tires in 3 years.

Totally agree with the "Chinese Popper's " problems. I have towed for 40+ years and learned the hard way many years ago. Switched right away to American made Goodyears (some are made in China) and ended issues. The LT vs ST is the sidewall strength & speed rating. Most issues are due to over loading, speed and under inflation. I cringe when I get passed by someone towing above 75+ mph & on "popper's" and more than likely not rated for the speed they are driving. They are more than likely overloaded as well ! Going to bigger tires is a good option as well but many trailers will not have enough clearance to accommodate though. Family member was in the tire biz for years. When I recently replaced my tires and asked LT vs ST they gave me the pluses & minuses but ultimately said its a toss of the coin. I don't tow at speeds over 62-65 mph so I use ST's for sidewall strength.

@C.S.Allen Why? They don't care if junk ST tires come apart and tear out the side of your RV. ST tires are an industry-wide scam. The only thing "special" about Special Trailer tires is the extra profit they make selling substandard tires.

Have ST on my 5th wheel toy hauler. Have made the 600 mile one way trip several times to visit the wife's family. Have also driven the Alaskan highway (7288 miles), and been to Northern California to see the Redwoods. Have only had one problem and that was a nail, if I had only checked my tires the day before I probably would have had a blow out sense it was low. I check my tire pressure before I start each day and do a visual at every stop.

We had one of our "China Bombs" blow out in Florida this winter. I had just looked at our TPM and that tire was reading 71 PSI, up from 64 when we had started our trip 20 miles before that. (65 cold PSI recommended by Forest River) Fortunately our TPM alerted us immediately and with minimal damage(A wheel skirt broken and dangling). After researching TT tires on Consumer Report, I went searching for Goodyear Endurance and found they are only in a class E versus the junk Chinese class D from Forest River. Replaced all 4 tires and immediately noticed how much better the trailer towed. After changing a flat in the rain beside I4 in Orlando we now have a roadside assistance policy. Our TPM system paid for itself that day. It is amazing to find how many companies are putting undersized junk tires on RV's since we have been talking to other RV owners.
